Is Joakim Mogren CG?

This is nuts. You guys, it's not the shading that makes something look like CG. It's the nearly imperceptible movements of a live body that we haven't learned how to animate yet. A still can look real. But animation hasn't come close to making somebody move like this. If the Fox Engine can make a photo, great. But if it can make the corners of a mouth twitch and pull like this, then we're all fucked immediately.

your saying this when you know LA Noire exists? The facial animation was amazing and it was on outdated hardware.

Just because it's CG doesn't mean, Kojima didnt pull out all the cheats to make it look real (if it's CG).
Why animate it by hand when you can capture it.

If it IS CG all Kojima has to say is "it will take some effort to reach this level and we might not go THIS detailed with our games, but it is possible with our engine"

Teamreal here.

I SWEAR i will send to the nearest guy living near here (Brussels) a mix of 10 PS2 and PS3 games if this thing IS CG. I'm that confident

I'm not kidding.

PS: By CG i mean real CG, not a video of a guy pasted in postproduction.. Anyone from TeamCG near me?

I love how the best argument for how it's possible is" but much less convincing CGI has already happened!"

Might collect every single quote that looks down on team real and make a video compilation of idiocy when it's revealed that it's not fucking CG.

TeamCG here from Austria. I'll get in touch with you when it's revealed that it is in fact CG. But please send me PS2 games only, I don't have a PS3.

Seriously, it's so obvious that he is CG. Brilliant CG, but still CG.

Then what's the point of showing off CG on a gameplay engine... considering how CG's not representative of gameplay?

You even played a Metal Gear solid game ? Half of the games are cutscenes, not real time gameplay.
Both parts are still made in the same engine.

Metal Gear cutscenes use real time assets though. Its not prerendered CG, iirc. At least it wasnt in MGS1-3 except for a few instances.

Even if Joakim in CG (and hes not), MGS5/TPP/GZZ/whatever isnt going to look like that, even in cutscenes.

Yeah, and I watched the Ground Zeroes footage where Snake is in the hospital bed.

Those character models and animations looked great, but not photoreal.

You have the base game and representation of the Fox Engine cutscenes to compare from, right there, and you chose to ignore it.

(And that's not even mentioning that there's only been like 3 CG sequences in the entirety of the MGS games, because Kojima prefers real-time.)

do you guys really think konami is the first/only company to pull off actual photo realistic cg for a human? and not only that, but some of you also think it is with a realtime game engine?

i mean come on

People are going waaay overboard here, he's real just look at how he moves and emotes, cgi's never been able to create anything like that yet.

Juste imagine the tech from LA noire ,except instead of streaming 512*512 badly compressed textures for the facial animation , they stream displacement map+ normalmaps on a mesh using tesselation.

I'm at 100% on cg side and everybody will be too soon enough.A lot of crows later.

This is most probably some kind of LA noire tech 2.0

My uncanny valley detector didn't go off so Im inclined to believe he is real, and probably crying himself to sleep everyday since the interview.

Yep. Exactly. The more human a character looks the more intricate the animation needs to be to create the illusion of life. Anything less than perfect, and you have nothing more than a photo-realistic moving CG corpse.
This guy is definitely human. If not, then I applaud the animators for paying such close attention to the subtleties of human motion and behavior.

"Kojima's got multi-billion dollar Hollywood companies beat at their own game, using a gameplay engine that apparently he will use to create pre-rendered CG, even though he has a consistent history of using real-time cutscenes and could use any number of methods for creating CG (that have been available to every game company since the 90s), all proven through a mo-capped interview (that, no matter the engine, costs a lot of time and money for those involved to rig, act, script, and render) seen on a little-watched show airing past midnight on a little-watched cable network." -TeamCG

But I'm not saying because la noire exists joakim IS by default possible. All i was responding to was for the tech it was on, LA noire captured a great deal amount of the subtle movements that Faithless said hasn't come close to achieving in games yet, which it did... 2 years ago in its release ( 5+ years ago in its development hell cycle)
