Dust: An Elysian Tail coming to Steam

Why do people say the art is furry? It isn't furry. Unless you guys think Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse is furry?

It's exactly that...there is no human looking characters in the game, none, all of them have rabbit ears or a bear face or a fox look or whatever but it didnt bother me at all because it looks nice, the voice acting is good, and when the action starts and you get quests and you explore and reach places that you can't get to right away because you will learn something new later on etc etc,it's pretty awesome for a XBLA/15 dollars game...

I like the way it plays but the art is such a turnoff. It ruins my enjoyment of the game.

I have yet to see a real argument as to why this art style could turn anybody off a game that is otherwise regarded as excellent. Not saying your opinion is wrong or anything, just wondering why you feel that way.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Great news. Been meaning to play this game for some time, but I've moved all of my downloadable gaming to PC at this point.

I really hope the game does well on Steam.

I know basically nothing about this game other than it's an RPG of some sort, could anyone tell me about it?

It's basically a combo focused metroidvania. My main criticism of the game is that the combat gets a little repetitive nearing the end once you've figured out combos that work well for you.

Another thing I forgot: this game does a masterful job of celebrating other fantastic XBLA games. Please don't highlight if you want to go into the game fresh. (side quest spoiler)
There is a side quest that requires you to gather mascots of many XBLA games. This includes Meat Boy, Castle Crashers, etc... and some other mascots I did not recognize. The section where you find/recruit the Bastion kid was incredible, I was so overjoyed hahahah. The way Dust pays homage to Bastion's world building style was very neat

PSN has the following games as exclusives:

  • Spelunker HD
  • Tales from Space: About a Blob
  • FAT PRINCESS
  • MUSHROOM WARS
  • PixelJunk games
  • Dead Nation
  • FLOWER
  • SUPER STARDUST HD
  • Journey
  • Sound Shapes
  • Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD
  • The Unfinished Swan
  • Papo & Yo

What does XBLA have in comparison?

None of those games compare to the XBLA games that were later ported to Steam.

It's hilarious to me that a platform can be dead when it continuously gets games people port beg for.

Man Dust:AET threads were already messy thanks to the art style. Now throw exclusivity junk in (although there was a touch of this earlier too).

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Who gives a fuck? This is literally the dumbest, most irrelevant shit you could possibly have dumped in this thread.

Ooooooh cool. Any impressions from those who've played this before? I only know the art is fantastic and that's it.

I had a blast with it. The visuals are gorgeous, and Fidget is sickeningly adorable. As the gameplay goes, it's quite a good 2D action-RPG. It was $15 on XBL, and it was more than worth the price, considering how much playtime I got out of it. I think it was somewhere around 30 hours.

First casualty of the thread? I'm glad its coming to steam, I own a 360 but with rumors saying psn and xbla games having no BC on nextgen consoles, I'd rather get it on a platform where itd be more readily accessible a few years down the road

Always great. I hope the (supposed) next gen hardware parity will make DD-exclusivity die a swift death. More choices are always good and I hope the guy who made this game gets the sales he deserves.

Minecraft 360 at 5 million sold and counting. Ask again if XBLA is dead.

Too bad not every game can be titled 'Minecraft' or 'Trials'. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=512729

A game like Fez not getting to 170,000 copies in 8 months. Dust doing a shy above 80k in 2012.
I'm sorta expecting an announcement for both games after launch: 'In X days it made more money that the XBLA version LTD'.

The new Behemoth game ought to do great, though.

I have yet to see a real argument as to why this art style could turn anybody off a game that is otherwise regarded as excellent. Not saying your opinion is wrong or anything, just wondering why you feel that way.

It's not that it's explicitly furry but it and other elements of the visual design (and VA, see below) send out signals that the game is going to be weeaboo/fanfic-level in its tone. I'm about 1/3 of the way through and it's pretty much playing out like what I imagine most fanfics would play out. It's not that I find it gross or it makes me uncomfortable, but the elements combine to basically broadcast "this game is trite but thinks it's not". It's not a bad game but I really wouldn't call it excellent unless it seriously improves. It's just good.

Also, the VA: it's fucking terrible and there's no way to turn it off. I don't know how to quantify this but every voice seems to be trying to hit a target (that vaguely reminds me of dubbed childrens' cartoons from the 90s) and missing. Noogy, if you are reading this, please release the PC version with a toggle for VA.

The only thing about the art style that bothers me is that the cutscene art is just really bad. It looks like amateur flash cartoons. The in-game art is fantastic. They don't match each other at all.

I might double dip! I have one cheevo left to get for this on the XBox version. Glad more people can experience this great game. Amazing job Noogy!

Edit: Still surprised at the rating the ESRB gave it considering the story. It's actually pretty dark.

I absolutely loathe the DA-branded teenager-ish serious furry artwork used in the cutscenes and official fan art, but fortunately it doesn't show much in-game. Plus, backgrounds and enemies look nice.

If the PC version has skipable cutscenes and toggleable VA (or if those can be modded out), I might bite.

Woohoo! I was pretty much resigned to the fact that I wouldn't be able to play this. Excited to play it since a lot of reviewers were saying interesting things about the story.
