BioShock Infinite PC Performance Thread

This game looks far better than anything I was prepared for. In motion, it is simply breathtaking and in big, sky-line battles, it's orgasmic. The level of quality across the entire game is top notch. The only thing I could have fixed so far is the hit to performance in certain areas.

So far, this has been a near perfect game for me.

I agree.

Its almost perfectly paced. You are not going from set piece to set piece like in some other games.

There is time to explore, relax, and soak up some lore in between battles.

Amazing.

My favorite weapon is the carbine. Its almost not fair, been playing too much CS. Its just headshot after headshot.

This got stuck in the bottom of last page:

Is there a way (via ini editing or something) to add subtitles to the voxophones? As a non native speaker, sometimes it's hard to listen and shootbang at the same time.

Weird... I've been messing with my settings and running benchmarks, and I'm getting better performance using the Ultra preset with the Alternative Processing set to "Off' than I am with the everything on Ultra except shadows set to Very High, AO set to Very High, Alt. Proc "Off".

This is on a 680 and an i7 920 @ 3.8GHz. Any ideas as to why the lesser configuration is getting worse framerates? It's a 10 - 20 fps difference.

My laptop's not much, but I'm not sure if it will be able to handle the game, at whatever settings.

  • Intel Core i5-3210M
  • 6GB RAM
  • AMD Radeon HD 7730M 2GB

Thanks!

I'm starting to think I have that bitcoin malware. Problem is, I can't see the process running.

is call iehighutil.exe and look for C:\Temporary

Kill the process in task manager, delete temporary folder on C:\. Restart computer.

Also delete any related registry keys ig.

game looks amazing (avoiding spoilers with these)

I think ive encountered what people describe as the stuttering, but it's not constant. It happens occasionally as I approach certain areas, as if it was loading. In 2 occasions it even dropped to 30fps for a few seconds as it was loading a scripted scene.

Not sure if what I'm encountering is the stuttering people speak of, but every so often the game will become a slideshow. Otherwise it runs really smoothly on medium settings.

It happened when I reached the small fountain in the garden area at the beginning, so I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of stuff going. Just seems really random. Any ideas for fixing this?

same here. It's as if it was loading on some specific scenes when something's about to happen. Really weird

went all the way up and it seems to be even lower than what I normally use. My guess is that it's at 90 or so?

Read earlier in the thread. There are numerous posts how to configure the INI file to increase the range of the FoV slider.

I think many will find that I and others have already answered most of the most common questions that will inevitably pop up when the game unlocks in 30 minutes for most people.

What's the VRAM usage when it happens?

Same. I increased the pool size to see if that matters but haven't played yet since the change.

Played for 2 hours and I feel nauseous. I think the default FOV is too low. And I'm also getting screen tearing. I don't recall seeing v-sync as an option.

Oh I wasnt asking, I actually find it quite fine even if it's 90.

What's the VRAM usage when it happens?

good idea, I was just running with FRAPS. Will check. Im on a 2GB 680 btw

Just some initial config tweaks to fix two glaring issues for me:

XUserOptions.ini

MinMouseLookSensitivity=0.140000
MaxMouseLookSensitivity=4.000000

Change the min/max slider to something more comfortable. These work well for my setup. The default options are way too high, apart from the very minimum which is way too low.

FieldOfView=1.500000
MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=45.000000

Expands the FOV sider range. I like mine nice and high and this works well for me. The default max value was still too low.

Is there a way to increase body and blood puddle duration? Just finished the absolutely amazing
attempted train ticket purchase
and it took me out a bit when I came back 10 seconds later and every body was gone.

Edit: Deciding between (at max setting for both) 60 FPS and 1080P or 30 FPS and 2880 x 1620 is hard. The latter is almost jaggy free and so crisp. Ugh, wish I had titans :D

Looks so so good, only thing to complain about is that I don't have enough memory on my cards, slight stutter everytime it needs to load in, usually only happens outdoors/larger areas. Can only imagine 2 Titans for this game, crank that res even further.

This game will own your VRAM if you go up to high enough resolutions. At points @ 2880x1800 it was allocating 3GB.

It's important to remember that VRAM allocation doesn't always equal VRAM requirement.

I... don't think I have it. Started noticing a lot of peculiarities with graphics performance since Tomb Raider came out so I thought it might it. I did play a couple other games in that time and they worked just fine so I dunno

When I get a crash, Chrome crashes as well for some reason. Could they be related?

wow yeah, VRAM usage on the first columbia scene (not shooting or anything) is around 1.7-1.8 GBs at 2040x1152

hope it doesnt go above when in combat :/

card is also getting quite a bit hot reaching 80°C (then again I dont have a custom fan profile)

anyway, stuttering happens regardless even when it's at around 500mb of usage, so it's not that

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread to ask, but has anyone received their Amazon pre-order bonuses yet? I got my Infinite code and the credit for the book, but haven't received a code for XCOM, Industrial Revolution, or the $30 2K credit.

I ordered it from Amazon yesterday and received all three of those today by e-mail.

I know I just made a post but I already edited it. Why does looking at a lock drop my framerate to 15 :/ Am currently downsampling but I hold a constant, 30 at max settings with the resolution listed above. Lockpick doors however just slam that right down.

I'm dropping there as well.

I'm getting periodic drops from 60 to about 40fps. I'm guessing that's the stutter everyone is talking about?

seems to be yeah. I know im getting it

also the game is pulling 1202mhz max, even when I have the card OCed beyond that. Weird

probably dialing it down a bit automatically because of the temperature

I'm pretty surprised at this.. I've never seen a UE3 game that I can't max out and still hit 1080p/60. Are they really doing that much extra stuff with the engine than other games do? Pretty disappointed in the lack of a proper Vsync option, since I can usually flip that on and not worry about it going over 60 (since I can usually run UE3 games at 120+ fps, it keeps my GPU from cooking rendering frames I never see).

I remember stuttering was a problem on Far Cry 3, although I never saw it personally.

600 series cards dial back a step (10-25MHz) for every 5C over 70 or something like that

If it stutters/drops for like 1-3 seconds and then goes back up to 60 it's probably you running out of memory.

see above:

anyway, stuttering happens regardless even when it's at around 500mb of usage, so it's not that

so unless it suddenly pulls 2+ gb for a milisecond fast enough for the OSD to not catch it; it's not that

600 series cards dial back a step (10-25MHz) for every 5C over 70 or something like that

yeah that's what I meant. It's cool tho still solid 60. I could get a fan profile to fix that but I wouldnt stand the noise
