Here's hoping with the next gen coming and stuff, they don't want to give themselves a bad image to a few gamers.
I know that's silly but I'd like to keep the game.

Dies at 80 confirmed. Pack it up boys, its over.
Then stop downloading at 75 %. The way it should work is:
Connect Xbox by cable to your PCs ethernet (need to have a second network card or WLAN for your internet) port. Then you sign up for a VPN service that provides you with a Chinese IP. Create a new VPN connection in your system settings for Windows 7 and use the login you just got. Then turn on connection sharing (ICS) for that VPN connection and link it to your ethernet. Give it a manual IP, something like 192.168.137.1. Then switch to your Xbox and change network systems to cable, manual IP, 192.168.137.2, subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.137.1. Should then connect to China through your VPN and allow you to continue your download and finalize it.
The problem is that I don't know if a Chinese VPN actually exists (why would you want to get under the great firewall, everybody wants to do the opposite) and like I said it won't work under Windows 8 (Xbox won't accept ICS of a VPN there). However maybe just an Asian IP is enough for it to work.
Whenever there has been stuff like this (like free Fable 3 because of an error) they let you access it like you bought it. They have never taken something away or issued bans because of this.

But I keep reading here about an RE5 japanese demo or whatever that was. Which got erased from people's hard drives.
Maybe that was because the game wasn't released yet, they needed the hype or something? Full hope mode engaged.

They can't leave the file corrupt forever. Either they'll have to take it off the store permanently or remove it from everyone's accounts. Otherwise, you'll just be able to get it later from your download history.
When the free Fable 2 fuckup happened, I got a patch a few months later that did kill the game, couldn't play it anymore.

I never got that patch, I can still play it.
And I've still got the free D&D Daggerdale game I got on my Taiwanese account.
The file is not corrupt. It just appears as corrupt on your end because it didn't pass the IP check at the end. For everybody passing that check it is working just fine. And no, if there is an IP check at the start you won't be able to start the download from your download history. It will just give you the "content not available" error.

I just launched it, it had a small update, but I still have it & it plays.

you should see if you can redownload it from you history.
Shows but when you try to download you get an error.
In regards to the failing, due to IP check - If you've already got it on your download history, has anyone tried doing a account migration?

Came up on a GameFAQs topic about it. Assassin's Creed 3 is linked to the profile, that's set. The profile is based in China, which obviously isn't USA/UK/wherever you are. If you do a migration to your home country, the IP check will pass.
My internet is horrendous (I download at 400 kb/s), so I won't be able to see if my download passes or not (currently at 35%), but this may be worth looking in to. If it is 'corrupting' at 80%, you MAY just need to download the remaining 20%, or possibly the whole thing.
I'll check this topic tomorrow morning when I wake up, to see if anyone's tried the migration!

I just tried this, but my download is still at 57% so I won't be able to tell you if it worked for a bit. Apparently it worked for people on Reddit though.
I had this idea a while ago and tried it.
It downloaded, wasn't corrupted, and it went to the AC3 Main Menu. I didn't actually play it.
Before I did the migration, my download was corrupted, and I couldn't re-download because I received an error. No such case after the migration.

but i don't think the problem is with the region of the account,but the region of the offer..microsoft check that you are trying to download a china only offer from somewhere else,and you fail the check.
if you migrate your accoun from china to ,say,usa,you still are trying to download a china-only offer from an ip that is obiviously not in china

Look at your Storage device, Assassins Creed 3 will show up at the bottom as incomplete. Simply Redownload it, it passes the IP checks and goes past 80%

I'm currently at 35% of the download. If I migrate the account to my country right now, I can keep downloading it passing the IP Check, right?

You should be fine. It will still be in your Download history. You will just have to download again after you migrate your account

Don't worry, I migrated back and tried the corrupt file and it didn't do anything.
Am trying the option of downloading it again.
