I definitely want in on the next tourney! Also, if anyone wants to play an asynchronous game on the DLC courses, shoot me a friend request (bearcatjosh is my psn id). Or if we're already friends, just let me know you want to play. :)

For the record, if any of my comments seem out of place it's because I never know at which point to enter which comment when you're given the chance.

Playing my first online game since last year. Slot mode certainly makes it interesting!

EDIT: Changed my mind. +3 for a perfect impact? Fuck that. The only decent positive slot it gave me (power shot +100y and no wind) was on a par 3.

EDIT2: I'll never play a slot mode match again.

HAHAHA

I did my first return to online like 2days ago and was all whats this. Got tornado hole and was like this is stupid. It gives it that Mario Kart like unpredictability gameplay. Seems to be the popular choice unfortunately.

I wont book it anymore...casino golf not my thing

Yeah. I finished second overall, but some of those combinations are just ridiculous. I never did play much of the game online, but I used to find that the lobbies weren't heavily populated so you just had to go where most of the players are - if they're always playing slot mode then I don't see me playing it online at all.

Nailed the daily this morning. Wish I could say the same for the next hole in my game with Moogrose. :(

Huzzah! I really need a pick me up. Sorry that it may be at your expensive... Although The way my day is panning out I'm likely to shoot a +4 or something. I'll take a peak later!

Why do people call an albatross a double eagle?
I'd always assumed a double eagle was when you get an eagle on two consecutive holes.

Birdie = -1
Eagle = -2
Albatross = -3

Double eagle = -4

Anyway, I left a surprise for Mr E on the last hole I played ;-)

Don't get too excited. :p

Sorry fellas, I haven't been playing as much as I'd like, not trying to drag the tournament out or anything. After my daughter being sick for two days it hit me hard yesterday... But I think I'm back! At least till my wife gives birth - which could be any day now!

Anyway, to the links!

Edit: @number45 - no spoilers, but I think this match is yours :(

The DLC bundle is now up on the EU (web) store!

Edit: I should probably point out that this bundle doesn't contain the two costumes for Erika and Gloria.

Ugh I apologize to everyone for flaking out of our matches, I was on vacation for 4 days and while I had my Vita I just didn't have time to check in and get my turn in. I fired it up today to see I forfeited 3 matches, including one that was on the 8th or 9th hole with Jemile.

So sorry :(

Managed to squeeze in a round of 18 on each course, ending with -14 for Sakura, -12 for Mar Cielo and -15 for Northern Fox :). The 1st and 3rd courses I rememeber from the first EG game to get me completely hooked on the PS2.

Can someone post the stats pages for each of the DLC characters?

Erika: 249y Control C, Impact C, Spin B, Sidespin err non-existent :) (Good at approach, bad at rain)
Gloria: 265y Control B, Impact C, Spin C, Sidespin D (Good at approach, bad at bunkers)
Kat: 271y, Control C, Impact D, Spin A, Sidespin B (Good at approach)

I really gotta level my characters but man some of these tournaments are HARD even on Easy. :( Get a bunch of bogey's screwing up a 50 foot put EVERY. TIME. D:

Yeah, it's really not an easy game. That said, putting is EASILY the hardest part of the game so priority number one should be leaving as small a distance as possible for your putt if you want to start making those birdies. Eventually you'll get the hang of it.

There is a mathematical approach to putting (which has no doubt been posted in this thread somewhere already), but aside from judging the distance including the incline/decline (which anyone can do if they can divide 10/20/30 by 10 and do some simple addition/subtractions), I've not needed to be too analytical of it.

To get the hang of the game initially try and stay with a character that gives you good control, initially it's the most important stat as it determines just how close to your expected shot trajectory you will get.

What's the difference between "Fade" and Straight or Hook shots?

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
My secret to putting is 1) years of practice with these games and 2) not to overthink the run of the green. I force myself to make a quick judge on direction, based on my gut, and then I will spend a little bit of time thinking about power. I might linger thinking on the power for a while, but I set the direction usually really fast.

Imo, power is the hardest part of putting.

Putting has become the strongest part of my game. Though I've not yet reached the hardest greens. On the really hard greens, (in past HSGs) the approach game becomes my main focus. And that's a combination of understanding all the factors that affect shots and then nailing the timing on the shot.

I assume you're playing right handed (I actually have no idea if the terminology is reversed for left handed players), but a fade shot is where the ball curves away from your body and is achieved by hitting to the left of the centre of the ball. A hook causes the ball to arc back towards you and is achieved by hitting to the right of centre - straight is a hit in the centre of the ball and will fly straight (wind and ball position notwithstanding).

Some players have a natural fade or hook which you need to take into consideration.

I agree that it's easy to take too much time, and that practice is the most important thing, but I find power by far the easiest thing about putting. I rely on putting because my approach play isn't all that great (which is why I'm still waiting for that albatross... :'( ).

As I'm due to go away for 3 days to the Brecon Beacons my Internet access will be nil.

Fortunately Blindmonkey is giving me a proper beating at the moment. If our match isn't fininshed by mid day tomorrow I will lose on forfeit anyway. I did mention my sabbatical a few pages ago so sorry for any confusion here.

Andy and others I will send out invites when I get back for a few rounds. I'm refreshing my vita all day to day so if Monkey reads this post and want to knock on with it we can. Think there's only 3 holes left.

Tried to get a hole in this morning but it said there was maintenance. :(

I'm away next week as well, but I'll be able to tether to my phone (assuming I get a signal) so it shouldn't be a problem).

I was thinking about asking everyone if they wouldn't mind too much if we go ahead and disqualify you for being some sort of super golfing half-biotic sub species... Anyone?

Edit: doesn't mean Number45 is winning our match, not at all. :)

New rounds would be great - if you want to thrash me, pick the new Mayan themed course. 18 holes

Used to go to Symonds Yat a lot when I was younger - not quite as far as the Brecon Beacons, but it's lovely round there.

Weird. Perhaps it's Japanese then? I've never seen it called that outside of EG.

Wiki says it is used in the US, but I'm almost positive that the old EA PGA (before Tiger Woods) games way back when, had Albatross in the instruction manual. Which is why I tend to use that instead.

can confirm that Blindmonkey has earned a place in the final. Good luck to both finalist.

Stealth edit.

Glad to erase that lol.

Hey you should spoiler that, I haven't had a chance to check my Vita yet :p

Played holes 7 and 8 during my 2 breaks at work, just got home.
Everything could go horribly wrong on the 9th hole.

Edit:

So I did win, probably the surprise result so far, using standard everything and Intermediate golfers definitely made me play more carefully and put more thought into the approach play.
Didn't take my usual risks.

Good game Mr E.

Result:

Thanks for the game, it should have been closer.

Anyone wants to add me for some friendly games feel free! Let me know what you want to do for the final.

You play an amazing game of golf. Well deserved victory!

I has some neat graphics going on my work laptop, which I forgot at work over this fine long weekend. And so...

TOURNEY FINALS!!!:

BlindMonkey

Vs.

Number45

A match of titans.

18 holes. Standard club and ball. Match invite and thus course selection goes to Number45 for his higher number of points in the round robin.

Good luck lads!

Would be nice to see a game update every 6 holes or so :)

Could you both also let me know where you located (region) for the eventual prize. Ta.

Edit: tourney graphic will follow on Tuesday morning :)

I'll go with a similar setup then, intermediate characters with standard club/ball. Will get the invite out a bit later hopefully. :)

Apparently there will be maintenance every Thursday at 08:00 GMT (for 2 hours) from now on.

Ok, Standard equipment and Intermediate golfer sounds good, i'll try to play safe again, stood me well in the last game.

I tried to do a daily international last night and it said every thursday from 10:00 to 10:00 GMT which was very confusing, I see today it's saying 08:00 to 10:00 GMT, assuming 24 hour clock that's Thursday morning.

Just sat watching the football and somehow realised that I didn't set the standard clubs. I'll cancel the request and send a new one.

Are there any plans for more dlc courses? maybe a couple more with max difficulty? I'll settle for the last course from Out of Bounds.

And do characters level up faster through challenge mode compared to regular stroke? Think I maxed out 4 characters playing just the challenges, but now it seems like round after round for minimal level gain playing stroke and daily tournaments.

The levelling up is per hole. It's boring, but in lieu of having any challenges (and the online being a nightmare), I'm running 1-5 constantly. 18 easy holes with several good albatross opportunities.

EDIT: A bit more info as I was on my phone before. My numbers might be off, but this is how I think it works (0 > 1 is definitely right):

0 > 1 : 18 holes
1 > 2 : 36 holes
2 > 3 : 72 holes
3 > M : 144 holes

So the requirement starts at a single 18 hole round, then doubles for each level up.

im trying to get the homing shot trophy and i had super back spin twice and hit the pin and it just dropped to the green and did nothing. What am i doing wrong? I know its a super back spin because i hit it perfectly and it streaks blue yet nothing happens. Also even if i dont hit the pin sometime it spins backwards on the green and others it doesnt but they are both super back spin why does it not happen sometimes? Is it my spin stats are too low and they have to be at a certain level to work consistently? BTW i hit the pin in the air it didnt bounce or roll to it maybe thats it?

do the characters you are using have the shot unlocked yet? They get it over the course of leveling up (might be lvl 3?, can't remember).

To be honest I find all of the super pin shots hit or miss, I'm not sure what the exact requirements are. At a guess I would say that if they hit the pin too hard (i.e. before at least once bounce) then they won't work, and the same goes for if the ball is going too slow (hit a couple earlier tonight that didn't register). I also think WHERE you hit the pin makes a difference. :/

Just keep trying. I find both the rising/homing shots easy enough to hit frequently (not that they'll necessarily register), side spin is the hardest to pull off for me.

i try looking for holes that are close to the edge and have relatively easy slope to predict, if its to far away and the slope big its harder to hit especially on a roll.
