The best thing about that awful background girl cosmic pointed out is that she NEVER moves. She's a part of the background (but blurry as hell for whatever reason), and for a full 7 second cut, all the characters in the foreground and moving and stuff while there's this total derp face right behind them taking up 1/3 of the screen. Really hilarious.

Wasn't really impressed with it either. It's like Japan made an Adult Swim show like Tom Goes to the Mayor or 12 Oz. Mouse.
Exactly what I thought, but fortunately Trigger has either moved on or isn't confining themselves to it

Uta Prince 2000% episode 1

Much like with the first season this show is literally far too Fabulous for me to handle. Creepy dead fish eyes moe can only carry it so far.

The name of their boy band is goddamned ridiculous.

Karneval episode 1

Now this just feels like stupid :dtl bait. Dropped.

Part-time Worker Demon Lord or Whatever episode 1

The characters seem amusing enough and I like the setting. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one for now.

Also, hot damn that opening scene looked nice! I almost can't believe this is by White Fox, of all things. The same studio that brought us the ugly-yet-palatable Steins;Gate and the hit-with-the-fucking-hideous-stick Jormungand? Consider me surprised.

Hah! Yeah, i need to do that. I've seen the first ~100 episodes more than twice... Just watching it with other people and revisiting it for fun since I have the DVDs. Now I'll probably go back and watch the pivotal arc episodes just for that reason.

By the way, good luck with your upcoming anime original hell =(. I enjoyed the special!

Indeed. Some of the earlier episodes are the ones I'm most familiar with due to having the DVDs and manga volumes. I think I've seen the Holmes fans two parter at least 10 times, due to rewatching those DVDs with friends or family members randomly.

I have been 'anticipating' this upcoming run of AO episodes as I've checked out the episode listings. :\ At least I know there's a reward on the other side of it. If you're going to do a bunch of AOs, at least they sandwiched them between two big arc stories.

That sounds good. It's probably not fair to Inferno Cop that I watched LWA before I even knew who Trigger was. So hearing that IC was by the same guys I went in thinking "Oh man I bet the animation is going to be great!"

Kind of really wordy at times and felt a bit long. They could have really fit two guests. I guess I would watch if it had somehow been extended to a full series, which must be impossible. Oh well pool did look fantastic though something did feel random and out of place
Why did they just start fighting all of a sudden, they could took it out on the pool table etc and the flashback scenes felt odd to just happen like that mainly because we get to learn how they did in just mere moments later in a much more dramatic and emotional scene
.

I liked the backgrounds, the random arrow and angles for the shots at times, and the pan up to the roof as its glowing in all its blue splendor, and some of the random moments emphasizing each characters on pool table actions/antics for their apparent skill.

Ending was atrocious and really highlights one of the things I hated in english literature class when we were on such a subject
Why can they not tell us how it ends, that is who goes where. I want to know if his words and actions were effective in getting the younger one to go to the top place or if they both could go. Even the lady wanted to know. Ugh

Gintama Episode 260

Going to miss those two once the arc is done.

The Gintoki vs Oboro battle and conclusion were really well done. Always impressed about how well the fight scenes are usually adapted in Gintama compared to other long running shows.

It wasn't bad. Lots of nice pool action going on and the whole premise was pretty interesting. The ending did fell kinda flat for me, but everything else was pretty fine.

So anime is still maybe saved? Hopefully?

Yeah, rotoscoping sucks. I think there's a problem when the characters look best without motion, when the 'advantage' of rotoscoping is the translation of live movement into animation in a more . . . direct way. The characters just look unfinished at times; facial details popping in as they approach, the odd lack of detail at times during close-ups, etc. It's jittery and there's a sense of unease about the whole thing, which might be intentional, but this is anime so it's better to have low expectations. I wonder at the thought that went into going with this approach.

That said I do like how ugly everyone looks, when they're actually drawn fully. It's a nice (and purposeful, I suspect) shift from the appealing art of the manga, and the sheer revulsion of what's to come is going to be amplified with the 3D pig disgusting designs.

Despite that, though, I kinda liked it! Haters gonna hate. Wonderful background art that might suffer from too much recycling as we go. The repetitive, monotonous, bgm. And Nagahama as a director still has it. Some wonderful cuts, with the mirror--even if they reuse it twice in the same episode--being the most striking of them all with the framing of the amigos in their exit and their parting. The representation of his awakening as the seed trembling, reaching out, opening its eye. It's kind of depressing because there's a good show buried underneath the more than justified backlash.

The Flowers of Evil 1

Man, the rotoscoping's really weird with how it's all so jittery and the way in which details pops in and out in a really inconsistent matter. I guess it's intentional given how unsettling it all is which is a perfect fit for the source material but I can see myself warming up to it. I will say the ugliness of everyone really adds to the overall tone of the show and I'm expecting great things from certain future events if they cover them and keep this kinda look up.

That aside, the background work in this is probably the best stuff Studio Pablo's worked on yet, it gives the town a great sense of decay with all the beaten up signs, warn-out buildings and the rust, oh the RUST. I do like the constant repetition of all the locations as it really helps give this that much needed sense longing for more and the destructive boredom of rural living. It's far more bearable than usual thanks to just how beautifully expressive they are.

The third thing that really stands out is the use of music as it's incredibly subdued and picks up to give this an incredibly disturbed and uneasy tone to just how mundane everything is, doubly so with the glimpses of the flower slowly blooming. I must say I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode.

Oh and the OP and ED are fucking brilliant. I can't wait to hear the other three openings and the transition in at end was perfect, completely dethroning JoJo EP2.

Aoi Sekai no Chushin de 3 (end)

The OVA of sorts had potential if it were only longer. I thought it was a nice intro to the franchise of manga (coming to the us this year), that I will probably check out just for the wondrous and amazing things that sonic/Gear can do. I liked his storys and personality, hes just one all around cool dude.
having to Absorb his dad though, uch
. I wish the scenes had given him a bit more attention and love, like a huge action scene to send this off with a bang.

Scene with Opal charging was so awkward...

Nice table.

Madhouse maybe proves they're not quite dead, there was certainly no shortage of pretty background art or animation in this. I liked the premise well enough, this is more or less an anime episode of The Twilight Zone. Still, I have to agree with those who say the ending is unsatisfying. There's a fine line between thought-provoking ambiguity and an ending that makes you say "well what was the point then?" and I'm afraid the ending was closer to the latter than the former.

But it's certainly worth watching.

I'm afraid I can't comprehend this. The OP is boring and the ED is offensive garbage.

Detective Conan 178:
That's how you wrap up a story. Pretty much everything was wrapped up perfectly. That rooftop confrontation was perfect, and we get to see just how badass Gin is in this episode. He's not just ruthless, but calculating and analytical. Pisco doesn't appear that much, but he does leave an impression for what amounts to his only real appearance. The Black Organization's theme music is perfect and chilling.

And then, just to wrap everything up, we finally meet Vermouth. Oh, how I've waited for this moment. Now the Black Organization starts to feel like something much larger, and not just two guys wandering around in Porsche and being menacing.

Now, I get to experience a long run of AO episodes. I predict lots of the Detective Boys getting involved in various shenanigans.

Oh, the music itself. It's bound to change, given how different versions were recorded. I thought it was fitting for that transition, but it's not something I'd actually sit through for a minute or more.

Hey, there!
This is my first time posting on this side, and I'm really excited to watch some new anime!

Today, I watched Devil Survivor 2, Episode 1.
It's a really fantastic representation of the game in terms of art style, key details, and character traits. I had a great time watching it, and it's definitely going to be one that I'll be paying attention to.

The only thing that stuck out to me was the "loading" or regenerating bar on the mobile after a demon dies. What's up with that? Plot elements, perhaps? Still, just a small change.

Yeah, it was constantly jittery to the point of being hilariously uncomfortable. That was part of its charm!
I've been meaning to check it out alongside a proper watch of all of The Critic and the Daria DVD's.

2hipster4me. I get what they were attempting with the ED, but just like the rotoscoping, it feels more like an annoyingly pretentious attempt by an incompetent film student to be "arty" to me than something that actually works.
Yeah it's pretty hipster.

Dunno why anyone would sit through the OP/EDs, weren't they just credit rolls?
It's all about the lyrics yo, when was the last time an opening called itself a piece of shit?

Oh, the music itself. It's bound to change, given how different versions were recorded. I thought it was fitting for that transition, but it's not something I'd actually sit through for a minute or more.
I think the 4 different version were for the OP only but I wouldn't be surprised if they mix up the ED track either given how out there and varied the original song is.

Rewatching it with subs... I have to say that Death Billiards would have worked better without the completely random, out-of-character EMOTIONAL SPEECH at the end. It was obviously an excuse to do cool animation, but in terms of the narrative it felt too transparently author speech-y.

I dunno, I think it makes sense for
someone who thinks he's about to be sent to hell
to make a speech like that. My issue was with what happened after that.
