Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Okay for 16:10 mode I see people mentioning black bars.

I'm fine with black bars, but by setting 1680x1050 and fullscreen, I'm instead getting stretched 1400x1050.

What should I be doing, or should I just play this in a window?

I told myself I wouldn't utilize the 60 FPS, and that Dark Souls felt like a 30 kind of game.

I broke down and tried it. Yeah, it's awesome lol

Most o the time when I download a new game I usually verify integrity of game cache to make sure everything is fine. 90% of the time a game doesn't start up is because the files get corrupted somehow during the d/l process. At least for me... I don't know if it's because my external gets disconnected temporarily during he process or what.

Man they totally underestimated Dark Souls' popularity on PC. Running out of CDkeys, really?

Do not doubt PC gamers...

That's not an existing kind of game.
I dunno, I doubt there's any game that CAN'T benefit from 60 FPS, but at the same time a few can fail to feel right. Dark Souls seems to be one of the rare few, it feels to me more like turning on interpolation on a TV than a proper 60 FPS experience.

Of course, that also implies that if it were built from the ground up to be capable of natively running at 60 FPS (or a variable FPS period) it'd play just fine even when looking/running exactly the same at 30/15 FPS now.

It may be because people played it for tens, if not hundreds of hours in 30 FPS. It may be jarring at first, but later you get used to it to the point where you can't stand playing locked 30 FPS. It was the same for me with Soul Reaver, no difference in this game.

Guys,my friend just bought this on Steam a few days ago when it was 20 bucks for a day but he tried starting the game today and it crashes after a few of the splash screens...he did the check integrety thing and all and its still not working...is there anything to do if you get this on Steam with GWL or is that gone by now...? maybe a code he has to enter...?

He is trying to run this on his AlienX51,the i3 model with the 545 Video card,he ran Skyrim at 1080p with no problems so not sure whats going on...we didn't try to apply the Durante fix yet though, maybe that will help...anything else to check...he gets the pop-up window that says windows has encounter an error and will close etc etc everytime...

No and no.

The only thing the 60fps does is ruin the console version 30fps.
Well, it also makes you sometimes slide off the entire world if you slide down ladders.

But yes, 60 fps Dark Souls at high res is a thing of beauty.

Where is that exactly...in the general Steam settings or in the game properties ? is it the community cloud thing...I can't seem to find something that is called overlay...

Just right click on the game.

I recently bought and installed Dark Souls: PTDE on my PC and applied the latest DSfix.
It works great at 1920x1200 resolution (I have a Dell 24" U2412M monitor) but my question is:
is it normal that even though the resolution is set to monitor's native resolution, I still have top and bottom black bars? Is that some sort of "cinematic" feel or did I do something wrong in DSfix? I touched nothing except the resolution...

Try renaming vsfilter.dll

Disable overlay and any other DX injectors you have running (Fraps, SweetFX, Afterburner)

Others can correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't been in this forum for months.

But I believe that DSFix doesn't support 16:10, or at least, didn't initially.

If he has a 360 gamepad (or potentially any gamepad), unplug it before launching the game. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it is true, I have the exact same problem... I have to plug in my gamepad AFTER launching the game, otherwise it crashes on launch when trying to load the steam overlay.

Okay,we tried all that guys, even the unplug the 360 controller and it still crashes...the only thing I didnt try is the rename vsfilter.dll thing...rename it to what??

Hey Durante, From just announced they'll be releasing a new update. If it isnt compatible, any chance of a DSfix Update?

First off, I have the same monitor. Love it. Second: I myself have resigned to playing with black bars for now but this may be what you're looking for.

That's really fucking funny.
Hey, I've been primarily a console gamer for a long time. I've only recently in the last year or so, jumped into PC gaming.

It's hard to explain, but Dark Souls' 30 FPS contributes to the atmosphere IMO. But that smooth 60 can't be denied :lol

Is he using Windows 8?
There's some issue with GFWL in Dark Souls and Windows 8 which can be solved by unninstalling GFWL and re-installing it from Microsoft site (not entirely sure if he'd need to download a specific version or not).

Durante, in case you haven't seen it, theres a new mod out which lets you summon each other immediately.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/211420/discussions/0/828935269278734403/

The only issue is it needs people to have the mod installed and to have each other on your friends list. What would be the chance of you contacting the author to possibly include this with DSfix? It works really, really well and could very well be the saving grace that PC Dark Souls needed. No more waiting 30+ mins to summon your friends! The more people who know about it and have it installed, the better the entire community will be.

I'm sorry if this has been addressed already in this thread, but is there a reason it sounds like there are explosions going off when I'm walking through grass?

I have no idea but LOL, recording?

I bought this on PC today and installed a bunch of mods; does anyone else's game studder every once in a while? I read that with some custom textures there is a small "loading" time but I'm not sure if it's any texture or only particular ones

The frequency of the stutters are directly related to the size of the texture mods. The bigger and more extensive the texture mods are, the more frequently you will encounter them. They only occur once for each instance though, you will not get them after you've visited the affected area for that particular session.

Once you quit the game and load it back up, it will happen again.

Anyone able to help me with an issue?

The game randomly drops down to 15 FPS for me and locks at itfor prolonged periods of time.

My GPU is a Radeon HD 7970 and the game is barely using it when it drops to 15FPS.

I tried putting the game in windowed mode and the drops seemed to stop mostly but not sure why fullscreen would cause issues

Don't have a 120HZ monitor either so shouldn't be that issue

I have a radeon 5770 and I have the same problem. To fix it I just toggle on the FPS unlocker and set the cap at 30.

Yep, exact same card and I had this problem too. I played about 3/4 through the game at the default res at an almost-constant 15 FPS before I knew to try this, now I can run it at 1600x900 with 27-30 FPS. Durante is amazing

I could fix this by loading up all the mod textures at the start, at least for people with sufficient memory. Then you'd get a single slightly longer load time at the beginning but no stutters.

I wasn't aware that there were people using a large enough amount of mods for this to become an issue.

My man.

What are some great texture mods? Is there a really good HD texture pack yet? The only ones I've used were PS3 button prompts, high res fonts and silly YOU DIED replacements.

Total noob question: Is the game supposed to be played in the upper left corner of my monitor, and most of the screen consisting of menu items etc.?

Or am I doing this wrong? I have a 1900x1200 monitor.

I've had a controller issue for awhile, maybe Durante or someone familiar with it can provide help.

There's seems to be some sorta issue with this game and wired 360 controllers. While it's rare, I have seen people on other forums with the same issue. Essentially pressing directly forward on the left stick will always put in you a walking state, even when sprinting. Every other direction and movement is without issue. Obviously this is a problem because I am moving directly forward the majority of the time. I've tired numerous things such as, installing new drivers, configuring the controller, re-installing the game, etc. Even after I had to reformat my HDD, did the issue persist. From what I've gathered, the issue seems relegated to wired 360 controllers. Although I don't think the problem is cause by the DSFIX, perhaps it can help with a solution.

It's sorta deadzone issue that affects this game and only this game for my wired 360 controller. As you've stated, only the forward motion is affected, and no matter how far ahead you push that stick forward, the game still interprets the signal as a walking motion.

A solution that works well enough for me is to push down (click down) on the Left stick when ingame a couple of times (essentially pressing the L3 button), and then try to sprint (Left stick forward + B button). Works most of the time for me, requires a few tries at times, until the next boot up of the game.

My game has been running great at a locked 60fps until today.. It stays at 60 for a little while, and then something (lighting a bonfire?) causes it to lock at..59fps? What in the world could be causing this?
