They already recycled Moldorm. Link's Awakening, remember? He was an annoying twat in that too, except it took even longer to get back to the boss room. :/

Link's Awakening is part of the LttP story right? If they're going to rip off the LttP overworld wholesale, maybe they can include a boat and rip off the LA overworld too as a connecting island. :p

This game is trying to be the same as LttP. It's trying to recreate it and then make it not exactly the same with new mechanics. Why limit yourself to that when you can make anything the 3DS could support?

you don't know this. You can't from a one minute trailer. The game could share 4 screens with LttP and then suddenly make a huge shift to some other world.

At this point we have no idea.

I actually think this looks pretty awesome, myself. Looking forward to seeing what they're doing. I like the look of the 2D wall drawing power thing.

To those hating on the art style, how many times has Nintendo revealed a new Zelda art style before, scared fans, then proven their decision to be a good one?

Too many to count. I'm sure it'll grow on people. It looks very clean.

Also ffs be happy. This game had like 0 percent chance of existing before today.

fuck I want to like it but the game looks bland to me. Like flash 3d graphics.

I'll wait a bit, this and pokemon may push me to buy a 3ds.

Okay, this is the first step. Now give me Super Metriod 2 and we're good.
Is it silly for me to fully expect this next year or so? According to Nintendo's developer output, it's feasible 4 or 5 teams could conceivably be working on a 2(.5)D Metroid right about now. And the same philosophy applied to LTTP2 and YI3 could be in effect...

This is the greatest and most accurate post in the history of NeoGAF.

Legend of Zelda as a franchise is almost three decades old. That's a really long time. It's also a franchise which usually has multiple upcoming titles announced at any given time, ranging from re-releases, remakes, spinoffs, sequels, console titles, portable titles, etc. As such, I think we can expect that there is a wide ranging fanbase with many different individual desires for what to see in the next title announcement. When such an announcement is made, there is no doubt that there will be different opinions and reactions. These reactions will also be based on many different reasons ranging from individual to individual.

I don't think this is surprising, and I don't think it is a bad thing. The fact that people are interested in talking about it at all shows that the franchise still generates a lot of interest, and even if it is negative, it indicates that people still care about it to even express such an opinion.

I agree. And I understand why it turned out that way.
But it doesn't change the fact that just like Silent Hill, I find it incredibly frustrating to engage in any conversation about either series online. I know that this is symptomatic for many long running series, and much more so for those that saw multiple generations grow up with it at different points in time, with different styles and cultural backgrounds.

I guess I'm just tired and disillusioned about engaging with other people about a series that I hold in very high regard, because most of the discussion is smothered by hyperbole.

I like to in private, and love to discuss elements of the series, weighing pros and cons with people who might wildly disagree with me, but on the internet?
I've given up on that.

I think it's less the art style than that there just isn't much to get excited about in what little they showed. A lot of plain and a lot of brown.

Wait what? Surely they are not going to re use bosses and the map?

I know there are going to be new dungeons.

1. The overworld is most likely going to be very similar to the original. Remember, this is a direct sequel, so the same overworld makes sense, with various changes.

2. The bosses will most likely be brand new as well, with various cameos from old bosses here and there as a treat for nostalgia buffs.

Feels like cheating to me though! Look at him, he just slid out of the railings to get outside! That's not how it works! You gotta go to other rooms and find a key! Or hit a switch to open the railing! :D

3DS awesomeness cannot be stopped.

A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game, spent countless hours on it in my childhood. Really didn't expect this one, wow. They even kept the original sound effects. So good. 2D/top down Zelda is best Zelda.

the colour palette seems off, or i am just so used to the brightness and vividness of zelda post WW. I need to go buy a 3DS and pick up a ton of games.

So the dream world would be merged with the reality world? Link to the Dreams?

I remember the pages of complaining with the Skyward Sword demo at E3.

I have faith in Nintendo knowing how to pretty up a Zelda game.

When has anyone ever liked the art style of a Zelda game at first? It always grows on you.

Also, I remember Miyamoto and others saying that they might do MM3DS after a "new" Zelda. majoras mask 2014? If they do that, 3ds will go down as best handheld ever.

The more I look at it the more it pisses me off.

At first I was like, meh, not exactly what I wanted, but I can deal.
But the devil's in the details... the brick textures in that dungeon... the way the cliffsides just blend into the green of the field... the stalfos... everything looks so lifeless...

I'll probably still end up buying it, of course. I mean, I own Four Swords.
But still... I feel like a sequel to ALTTP deserved a more detailed and darker atmosphere than this.

As others have said, I'm hearing NSMB's "Wah, Wah" when I look at these screens.

One hope I have for this game is that they drop the excessive tutorials and slow beginning. Make it true to a link to the past and just throw you right into the action.

Is it wrong that I liked 2D, top down Zelda games like Oracle of Seasons to Ocarina of Time (3DS version)?

I just never got into OoT like I did OoS. I feel like having a portable system makes 2D Zelda games more appropriate. I also didn't know what to do half the time in OoT and found the compact world of OoS much more appropriate... It just made more "sense" to me

One can only hope! I'll day one that shit twice just to support the cause.

I didn't either. You're not alone there.
