The Simpsons |OT2| It's a pornography thread- We were posting pornography

I think one of the only good non-classic era Simpsons episodes I've seen was the one where Homer goes inside a robot suit to enter a robot fighting competition with Bart. After a quick google search, I see that it was in Season 15.
There were some really funny gags in that one.

Someone who kept up with the show should compile a list of decent eps of the more recent years. I stopped watching after s17, which was pretty terrible iirc

So lets see
Season 18:
24 Minutes
You Kent Always Do What You Want
Season 19:
Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind
The Debarted
Dial 'N' for Nerder
Season 20:
Gone Maggie Gone
Waverly Hills 9-0-2-1-D'oh
Season 21:
Once Upon a Time in Springfield
The Squirt and the Whale
The Bob Next Door

Season 22:
Flaming Moe
Season 23:
Holidays of Future Passed
At Long Last Leave
Season 24:
Nothing.

Avoid these episodes at all costs!
Season 18:
G.I. (Annoyed Grunt)
Kill Gil, Volumes I & II
Season 19:
That '90s Show
Mona Leaves-a (starts off decently, but turns into rubbish quite quickly)
All About Lisa
Season 20:
Lisa the Drama Queen
Four Great Women and a Manicure
Season 21:
The Color Yellow
The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed
American History X-cellent
Season 22:
The Fight Before Christmas
Donnie Fatso
Moms I'd Like to Forget
Love Is a Many Strangled Thing
Season 23:
Moe Goes from Rags to Riches (honestly one of the worst episodes ever, if not the worst episode ever)
Lisa Goes Gaga
Season 24:
I'm not sure yet, as I haven't watched much of it.

That 90s Show fucking sucked. Retconning the Marge/Homer backstory for a cheap Nirvana pisstake.

Although there was this:

That 90's Show is all over the fucking place. Kurt Cobain is alive in it so it has to be before 1994, but the redesigned Amy Rose is from 1998. There are a lot more contradictory references, but trying to fit everything would be insane.

Of course, it's most likely the whole episode was one big joke, but even then it's a pretty bad one. (Although I don't hate it as much as other people do).

I'd say the movie would've have been better if it was Homer and Lisa interacting but at the same time Marge and Bart having quality time too. The problem of the film is that it's not so much as the Simpsons movie as it is about Homer's. I was kinda expecting that with the scope of the movie they can at least "expand" the focus. With that said, I enjoyed the movie.

So that list is essentially "Good Simpsons HD episodes" hm?

We've done this a few times in the last thread.

Instead of doing what I normally do and spout off a list of episode names which some may deem arbitrary (although I have watched every episode - something few people in here would be willing to admit), here is a list of the top-rated episodes from Season 18 and onwards as per their IMDB user rating score:

THE ESSENTIAL EPISODES

8.7 - Holidays of Future Passed - NABF18 - S23E09
8.5 - 24 Minutes - JABF14 - S18E21
8.4 - Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind - KABF02 - S19E09
8.1 - The Book Job - NABF22 - S23E06

Watch these. They're the consensus favorites.

8.0 - A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again - PABF12 - S23E19
7.9 - The Debarted - KABF06 - S19E13
7.8 - The Mook, the Chef, the Wife and Her Homer - HABF15 - S18E01
7.7 - You Kent Always Say What You Want - JABF15 - S18E22
7.6 - Coming to Homerica - LABF12 - S20E21
7.6 - Dial 'N' for Nerder - KABF07 - S19E14
7.6 - To Cur with Love - RABF01 - S24E08
7.6 - Treehouse of Horror XX - LABF14 - S21E04

Let me interpret the above group for you. The premieres and finales have been somewhat score-inflated so I would discount those temporarily. Here's what we're left with:

SOLID RECOMMENDATIONS

8.0 - A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again - PABF12 - S23E19
7.9 - The Debarted - KABF06 - S19E13
7.6 - Dial 'N' for Nerder - KABF07 - S19E14
7.6 - To Cur with Love - RABF01 - S24E08
7.6 - Treehouse of Horror XX - LABF14 - S21E04

All of these episodes are solid, safe choices if you're looking to branch out after checking out the four essential picks.

There's a core group of diehard Simpsons enthusiasts that don't care much for ATFTBWNDA but I rather enjoyed it. It's certainly unique and hardly typical compared to what you'll find anywhere else in the series. I excluded it from the essentials list due to how divisive it can be.

NOW IT STARTS TO GET UGLY

7.8 - The Mook, the Chef, the Wife and Her Homer
7.7 - You Kent Always Say What You Want
7.6 - Coming to Homerica

7.5 - 500 Keys
7.5 - Angry Dad: The Movie
7.5 - Beware My Cheating Bart
7.5 - The Bob Next Door
7.5 - The Day the Earth Stood Cool
7.5 - The Food Wife
7.5 - The Good, the Sad and the Drugly
7.5 - Homer the Whopper
7.5 - How I Wet Your Mother
7.5 - Husbands and Knives
7.5 - Springfield Up
7.5 - Them, Robot
7.5 - To Surveil with Love

Every single one of these episodes has noteworthy flaws... and some are just plain bad. I'll vouch for the Matt Selman episodes from this group (The Day the Earth Stood Cool, The Food Wife and, to a lesser extent, Husbands and Knives) but even they're not for everybody.

7.0-7.4 - Decent enough episodes if they sound interesting or they come recommended to you by someone whose judgment you trust.

6.9 and below - AVOID AT ALL COSTS; there is nothing good here

So there you have it... you have 4 essential choices, 5 solid recommendations and then you can scope out others that people personally recommend from what's left.

IceDoesntHelp likes the episode where Bob slices his face off. I don't.
I enjoy Homer Goes to Prep School... but a lot of people won't.
He likes The Squirt and the Whale. I like The Great Simpsina. A lot of you don't like Lisa at all... there are other episodes for you to seek out then.

The important thing to remember is that Moe Goes from Rags to Riches really is the worst episode of all-time.

Which is odd until people didn't really know who Amy Rose was until Sonic Adventure in 1998. Unless they played Sonic The Fighters or paid attention to the plot of Sonic CD

Ah, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that, a wizard did it.

The Moe rag episode is really bad, but there's an episode that's even worse.

Here is a summary of one of the segments of Treehouse of Horror XXII from its wiki page:

Wikipedia said:
Homer begins to decorate the house for Halloween and is reaching for a decorations in a box. Unfortunately, there is a real Black Widow spider in the box and when Homer is grabbing for what he thinks is a plastic spider, he gets bitten by the real one. The bite leaves Homer unable to move or talk. When Lisa reads for him, she discovers that he can communicate through flatulence. The Simpson family is amazed at the result and Lisa helps Homer tell Marge how he feels about her. When he is again bitten by another spider (a radioactive one), he spontaneously gains the ability to make spider webs and have the same abilities as Spider-Man, even when still paralyzed. Homer is able to shoot spider webs out of his rear end.

Several minutes of a lazy Spiderman parody that pivots around an extended fart joke, and it's somehow even worse to see it in motion than it is to read that paragraph. What an abomination.

It really was awful. Although unlike the bar rag ep, the farting, crippled Spider-Man story only lasted for a single segment before being thankfully put out of its misery. Had it lasted the entire episode it would be a contender.

The old thread was about posting images and gifs from classic Simpsons showing the visual charisma it used to have.

The new thread seems to be more about new Simpsons than classic Simpsons. We really need two threads in my opinion. One for the nostalgia of classic Simpsons, one for discussion of the show in its current form. The show has been on for 23 years so I think two threads are warranted, given how different the show is now compared to 15+ years ago.

Mayor Quimby: "Henceforth, this date shall forever be known as Flaming Moe's Day!"
Advisor: "Uh, sir, this is already Veterans' Day."
Mayor Quimby: "It can be two things!"

No reason this thread can't be a legacy to all of the greatness The Simpsons used to have and still talk about what's happened on the show since.

You're just trying to divide the Simpsons community into TWO THREADS.
New Springfield and Olde Springfield.
Just like when the area code got split in Season 12's A Tale of Two Springfields.

I'm on to you.

Actually, I'm surprised we haven't been moved to the Community section. By all rights, that's probably where we should be. Nobody tell the mods.

Change the title of this thread OP. It's not SFW, and it might result in a false positive for someone at work.

Oh yeah, A Totally Fun Thing Bart With Never Do Again is really worth a watch if only because it reminded me of old Bart again.

i agree these are all pretty solid episodes. i thought season 21 in general was one of the best ones since 10. homer the whopper, pranks and greens, boy meets curl, the color yellow, and stealing first base, the squirt and the whale, and to surveil with love are all pretty flawed, but have mostly good moments. the squirt and the whale is pretty much ruined by the cartoon ending, but they attempted to inject some heart in a genuine way that i thought worked (that third act though- sigh).

i guess i'm the only one who likes the color yellow. maybe people are really put off that homer, bart, lisa, and maggie are suddenly part-black, but i thought the stuff with mr. burns actually being a villain again (instead of kooky mean old guy) and some of the jokes really landed- especially one with a stupidly long footnote that would only be visible to people who paused their tv and took their time to read it.
