Bad crash in Moto3 :( , red flagged. Didn't see the "air bag" go off in the replay I saw of the crash or did he not have one? I saw some other guys with the lights on their leathers.

Vital signs are ok though, hopefully nothing too serious.

Jasper Iwema has been declared ‘okay’ following a heavy crash in Sunday’s Moto3™ race at Circuit of the Americas. The crash resulted in the red-flagging of the event.

For the Austin 400 there will be a required pit for tyres for each of the 4 races. In addition to this, all teams and drivers will be allowed to compete in practice 1 on Friday.

First lap by a V8 Supercar at Texas, starting straight flyby.

It's going to be great seeing them on a wide open track like that, even if it is Tilke. So many tracks over here are really narrow. Which makes for great biffo, but sometimes makes the racing a bit less elegant.

There will be large potential for biffo as they all come together at Turn 1 after fanning out at the start.

James Courtney and Kurt Busch are doing a V8 Supercar / NASCAR swap today so hopefully there will be more video of it running around COTA soon.

Vale tested KB's Nationwide car yesterday at Charlotte. It seems to have gone well for being just a promo event. He set some fairly competitive times.

Awesome video of the Audi R18 E-Tron flat out at Monza: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKIc1BcWDlM

Goddamn, that thing is hauling. Great find.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the R18s can do at La Sarthe in a couple of months. Hopefully Toyota will be able to stay in the fight a little longer, because, for a while, they sure made it exciting up front last year. Between that battle for the lead, and Davidson's massive crash just seconds later, I thought Carlton Kirby was going to pass out in the booth, :lol.

V8 Supercars/NASCAR Driver Swap Another video, this one is more them talking, but it does show just how fast those NASCARs are in a straight line. Pretty impressive.

That is otherworldly. The speed and the noise. Thanks.

Shame hey couldn't do it with Ambrose, given they're both (ex)Falcon V8 drivers.

Yeah, but then you wouldn't have someone who had never driven one having the experience. Still would be nice to Ambrose back in a Falcon.

Kenseth with a pretty big penalty for cheating last Sunday in NASCAR (50 points). It sucks because Kahne should have won that, and I bet this "win" gets Kenseth into the chase as a wild card.

I read on Crash.net that this tainted win will not count towards the number of win wildcard for the Chase. Apparently one connecting rod was 3 grams underweight. Pretty hefty penalty for that small an infraction, but I guess NASCAR does need to get rid of all of their grey areas.

As part of the penalty ruling, the #20 JGR car also loses the same number of owner points, and furthermore will not be allowed to earn owner points for the next six races as Joe Gibbs' owner's license for the vehicle has been suspended for the interim period.

Although Kenseth remains the nominal winner of Sunday's race, it won't count either toward a most-wins wildcard (should he fail to make the Chase by finishing the regular season in 26th place) nor would he gain the usual 3 point bonus for the Kansas victory that drivers get per win to start the play-offs with.

I doubt it. It was just a connecting arm that was too light. It didn't give him any advantage. TRD just screwed Gibbs again. Gibbs needs to reopen their engine shop and build their own engines.

Nope.

-Crew chief fined $200,000, suspended for six point paying races (All Star race included), and put on probation until Dec. 31.
-Docked 50 owner points. Owner's license also suspended for those seven races and the car won't receive any points for those races.
-Docked 50 driver points.
-Docked 5 manufacturer points.
-Pole award stripped.
-Bonus points for winning won't count for the Chase.
-Win won't count for potential wild card.

Nascar doing all they can to keep "Mr. H" and his boys on top!

If it had been Jimmie Johnson, there wouldn't be any fine. NASCAR probably wouldn't have even announced that there was something wrong with his engine. I don't know why Brain France is so determine to have Jimmie win the championship every year.

Ah ok, I just did a quick glance and didn't see any mention of the win not counting for the wild card spot in the chase. He could still make it though, if he counters the 6 no points races with a string of top 10s for the rest of the year.

And that does seem like a big penalty for something so small, but the rules are rules (unless your initials are J.J). I just wanted to see Kahne win again :p

The V8/NASCAR day in Austin has me pumped. I'm considering buying the streaming service since it looks like SPEED won't be covering it live.

I just hope I have a screen close by to watch the action around the track. Went back and watched Grand-Am of the Americas last night and it was very action packed and exciting racing.

The driver's fondness of the track and the layout seems to lead to great racing.

Even a quick google search for Chad Knaus proves this isn't true. The 48 team's been caught and penalized a few times. The penalties weren't as harsh as what's happened to Penske and Gibbs this year, but in all honesty the penalties weren't all that harsh in general before this current season.

Trying to make sense, compared to f1 car? It doesn't look as fast, and neither did I expect it to but how close is it to modern f1?

Despite lower power(~550hp), they acheive similar or slightly better top speeds than F1 cars due to lower drag/downforce, but this also hurts them in the corners, enabling F1 cars to lap a typical track a good bit quicker overall as Dave said.

Saw this thread bumped, so thought I'd share a little video compilation from my weekend at COTA. Was all shot on my Galaxy, so forgive the so-so quality. Anyway, gives you a good sense of the awesome sounds of these bikes. Our seats for the weekend were at Turn 15 (best seats in the house, IMO) -- last couple clips were from the main MotoGP race at Turn 15.

Very nice! The quality's fine, considering it's a phone. You're right about turn 15 being a nice place to sit as well. Great view from there.

Yeah, you get to see them come down the long straight and then go through that series of turns. What's great is to see the little differences between the riders and how they handle turns and coming out of turns. Marquez was so smooth.

I was just kidding.

Seriously then, what makes you think Marquez won't win again?

I just can't see it..he'll podium of course, I just don't think he'll be on the top of the rostrum again. From testing, COTA just seemed to fit his riding style that much more than anyone else's...not to mention that COTA is definitely a Honda track (35% of the track is in 1st gear). He won't enjoy that advantage at any other track. MAYBE Motegi...maybe.

But then of course, Marq can win next round and make me eat crow

Honda will do well at quite a few tracks, just like last year. And he's proving that he can beat Pedrosa, so I see no reason why he couldn't win several more races this year. Sachsenring, Indy, Aragon, Brno, etc. I think he'll have a shout these places and more.
