Jon Stewart destroys Fox News (Daily Show, 4/24/13)

They always have. why do you think the news companies immediately framed the Daily Show as "fake news" when it started killing everything in the ratings? Most news shows are classified as news and information entertainment shows. And here comes an actual entertainment show that just uses real news as source material for ironic comedy, and it's "fake news". Totally missing the point.

But that isn't surprising.

Jon Stewart however does use that as a defense for the Daily Show when someone attacks it for not being hard enough on guests. "Hey we're just a fake news show. The show on before us is puppets making crank calls." is what he said when the Crossfire people attacked him for being soft on Kerry, for example.

It's times like this that we're reminded that while the far right has basically co-opted the constitution libertarianism language of Ron Paul, they remain authoritarians at heart.

But crossfire was full of shit.

That's why they got canned almost immediately following Stewart's appearance.

But that's kind of the point. If mass media outlets actually had some sort of journalistic integrity, rather than sticking to rampant opinion and hyperbole (on both sides, but Fox is definitely the biggest offender), then The Daily Show wouldn't look so good in comparison. But since the "news" has essentially gone out of their way to provide even less factual reporting than a comedy show, The Daily Show's comedy is ridiculously more trustworthy and accurate by comparison.

It shouldn't be this way, but it is.

It's a comedy show. The fact that people accept it as fake news is cognitive dissonance to negate the truths that are often exposed by the satire. Many fans generally "get it" that it's the funniest thing because it's true. Critics and detractors dismiss it as "fake news", or 'liberals bashing Republicans for entertainment', so they can also watch, laugh, and not learn a damned thing. It isn't fake news. The news and events being lampooned are usually real. It's the reactions or the angles that are lots of times played completely straight, but still end sup being ridiculous. Comedy news satire, but they need it to be "fake".

And then you see "Conservative" comedy which is an entirely different kind of beast altogether.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

Fox News tried that once with "The 1/2 Hour News Hour", but it tanked horribly.

Is this real?

In America can someone on TV actually get away with saying "she should be in prison for wearing a hijab"?

Really?

Stewart is 100% dead on about holding the 2nd Amendment dear but not the others. Can't say "But 2nd Amendment" yet want to strip an American from due process.

If a news anchor or political commentator in Australia said the same thing, they'd be on the front page of every newspaper in the country and flambéed to high heaven.

Ann Coulter would probably love that. She is a professional, hate-filled troll

Duuude I saw Ann Coulter say this shit live and while it's taken a wee bit out of context on the Daily Show for laffs she's still right locooooooo

he does and rightfully so, though I don't know too many liberals that watch MSNBC except for Maddow.
Didn't Stewart recently have a clash with Maddow on her TV show, too?

The guy obviously doesn't target one person, group of people, or news station necessarily. It's just that Fox News provides more joke material on a daily basis.

With the Boston bombings he definitely had a good time poking fun at CNN's incompetence as well.

I don't know where you're getting that idea, when several people who have said something along those lines are not banned. What is banworthy is making meta commentary posts about the posting habits of other posters, or responding to posts they made in another thread in a thread they haven't even posted in yet.

This is an exciting and unexpected precedent.

I was confused about what Anne Coulter's point in existing was until recently. Now I'm not so angry at her anymore - everyone's gotta have a job and her's is to be a professional "word that is banned".

Can I have some background? Like what is jettisoned and the amendments he talks about (not what it's an amendment). I suppose he is talking about the terrorist from Boston.

Always hated piss on Fox segments and unfortunately this show is mostly about taking piss on Fox these days. It's easy job to do since they are more or less mental. But what purpose does it serve? Every person with half a brain knows they spew hateful lies most of their air time, there is no need to take them on. People who actually do watch FOX don't watch Daily Show or Colbert Report nor nothing on MSNBC. So at this point taking down FOX is just filled material imo.

They still try it with the Godawful Red Eye, which should be called the Fox News Cure for Insomnia. Good Christ, is that awful.

I've read that Greg Gutfeld is allegedly a humorist. Mark Twain was a humorist. If Gutfeld qualifies as a humorist today, the broadness of that definition has virtually rendered that word useless.

In the most deliciously rich tapestry of irony I've seen in a long time, Gutfeld has written a book. It's called: The Joy of Hate: How to Triumph over Whiners in the Age of Phony Outrage.

How to Triumph over Whiners in the Age of Phony Outrage

So good...

Fox News are suggesting to punish the Boston terrorist in a way that is illegal, in a way that breaks the code of multiple amendments in the USA's Bill of Rights. Basically, they are suggesting to do exactly what the Bill of Rights was made to prevent.

Like Jon Stewart said, this is a test of the integrity of our laws as a whole, and when something drastic happens, the Republican party are quick to throw it all away.

And this is why The Daily Show is on Comedy Central. Its just entertaining.
