Like when he said they'll get more % of the sale price if people buy FEZ via the Humblestore or GOG. What the fuck was there to get upset about? Or just mention the game or his name and off the hate train goes with comments that are sometimes just vile. i do feel sorry for him in that the amount of scrutiny he gets for being a sudden significant industry person is probably really disorientating when you're used to being able to talk fairly freely among friends who when you talk bollocks know you're still a good person/or are familiar with you sense of humor and where you can easily backtrack if you express yourself inelegantly.

that said he hasn't really learned from the first time. he's free to have a locked twitter account to talk more personally without being hit for it and not make provocative public statements.

No one with a public profile can avoid that, but seeing him respond with childish insults aimed towards the public at large makes him look like an asshole. Lab Zero has to deal with a bunch of people who hate Skullgirls' character designs and won't shut up about it, but they're still able to engage their fans in a friendly and inclusive manner, and they're a fighting game developer.

It isn't about Japan, at least not for me. It was about publicly shaming a man nearly to the point of tears at an event set up for the celebration of both their trade's, and doing it for no reason other than he could. It was despicable in pretty much every way, and the "man's" later behavior on both social media outlets ("suck my dick...choke on it"), forums, etc. do nothing but perpetuate his existing image as him being nothing more than a spiteful, self-absorbed manchild.

And he really has no one but himself to blame for it, either.

Doesn't matter how long ago he said it, he still said it. You cannot say something like that and not expect people to be extremely pissed off when you are at a publicly gathering of game developers. You may think it is boring, but to some it is enough to warrant him an asshole and to ignore him and his games. Which is what I do. I won't support the man, but I do not wish anything ill to happen to him neither.

It's this kinda cool game that won some IGF awards - but anyway some of those IGF wins are pretty controversial. But let me tell you about the creator, Phil Fish. Dude's a HUGE a-hole! Don't buy Fez! Got it? Cool game, won awards, it's called Fez, whatever you do make sure you don't buy it!"

God damn, I just cannot get over how much publicity he gets out of this. There's very few indie games where I know the name of the designer off the top of my head, but Fez is definitely one of them because it gets mentioned ENDLESSLY.

This won't be a 1 to 1 comparison, but I think it's a relevant one. It's still in the top 20 top selling on steam (at #17) in the midst of some really competitive sales. Monaco, whose creator has been pretty much scandal-free, has dropped to 23, despite this being the first time it's been launched on any platform and reviews for it being mostly positive.

The only reason I say it's not 1 to 1 is that monaco has been out for a week longer than fez, so it makes sense for their sales to be at a lower point than fez's sales.
