I was shocked to find out TLOU is releasing imminently. I've not been following the game. There is no marketing for that here in the UK. To me it shows Sony are hesitant to spend the $50m on marketing that's required to make a new IP a big success.

It's a month before it comes out. They usually kick up marketing a couple weeks beforehand. June's also a pretty dry month for releases outside of TLoU. It'll do fine.
They're more than a month out, there's still plenty of time to market it.
You're making it seem like MS has not plans to introduce new IP for the current gen with the 360 even though them and Sony will each have about 77-80 mil customers a piece. That's still a large majority of people they can sell a new game to with the right marketing which is why it wouldn't be surprising if Sony makes GT6 for the PS3. MS can just as well do the same.

Depends on when the devkits were shipped, their form, the target launch date communicated etc. Not saying this rumor is plausible, just trying to get the thread back on topic.
Remember thuway was hinting that the the earlier plan was launch in 2012? I dont remember the specific because there was too much noise from Miles in that thread.

Actually, what Pachter said was this rumor = shit, and I have no choice but to concur. It's impossible to have anything resembling a sensible discussion about this (potential) issue since we have literally zero actual information. We can only guess, and that's pointless.

I don't believe that for a second. Halo 4 and Forza Horizon launching last year, along with the leaked MS documents from a few years back, all pointed at a 2013 release.
Unless by 'earlier plan' he means something they may have discussed back in 2007.

It's still a month out, not "releasing imminently" - and marketing seems to ramp up. Public advertisement gets better results around launch time, spending marketing money now when customers aren't able to buy the game yet would be a waste.

No, because that was Pachter's opinion on this specific rumour, not his statement on what he knows.
Again: Multiple sources have corroborated that Microsoft is supposedly behind schedule - but that doesn't mean the end, there's still quite a bit of time left for them to get things sorted out for launch. Whether Pachter actually think this rumour is true or not doesn't matter, and everyone else can form their own opinion.

Gears is a third party IP. Epic owns it. Microsoft has done a good job of convincing Epic to keep it exclusive though.

That means Microsoft has control over what happens for those games.
Yeah, Epic could make more Gears games independently in the future, but they don't have any authority over whether Gears 1, 2, 3, Judgment come to PS3. That's all on Microsoft.

And how do you know that? If that's the case, why was Mass Effect 1 still exclusive until last year?
