That's one deflating platform selection, goddamn.

I'd like to know their reasoning behind it, actually. Is GT6 just an improved version of GT5, done more or less by a side-team while GT7 for the PS4 is already in development? Was it supposed to release much earlier, but it was again the victim of Polyphony's delays? Do they just want to cash out on PS3's user base and don't think having GT on the PS4 will be important in the first years? And isn't this serious competition for Drive Club, which supposedly releases not much later/earlier?

Gran Turismo is (or was?) probably Sony's most important IP in Europe. I can't imagine they want to repeat what happened this generation...

Big fail by Sony. Gt on the ps4 would have guaranteed them a large amount of holiday sales.

Except a proper GT on PS4 would never have been ready for launch. On the PS3, they are able to reuse the engine they built for GT5 as well as most of the assets. This is why Drive Club is a launch window title for PS4. In addition, PS3 has a larger install base, and GT is Sony's best selling franchise. They would severely constrict their sales by launching it alongside the PS4. PS4 will get a proper GT, but it's obviously going to take some time.

Having your biggest IP on a consoles that going to run into supply problems makes no sense .
Unless people think Sony going to have millions of consoles in warehouses waiting to be sold .

Is this real life?

Feel like this will cannibalize Drive Club's sales on PS4.

The amount of content in that game 0.0

I think you're overloading the user experience, I'd rather they left those standard cars behind.

I don't even mind the platform choice, but the press release is just goddamn anti-climactic. Hopefully we'll learn significantly more at the event.

Note: El33tonline was notified of an embargo on this information only after we received the official press release and details. For this reason, we’ll have further details on Gran Turismo 6 at 18:00 (CET / South African) today.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
This seems like it will absolutely cannibalize sales of Drive Club if that's a launch game.

I'm down with this, will be getting day one, I don't expect PS4 to have a launch GT game so it comes as no surprise that this is being released on PS3.

HAHAHAHAHA. OF COURSE it would be on the PS3. What would be the whole point designing an engine consuming almost an entire generation? With the "easy-to-develop" for console on the PS4, Drive Club would definitely have the chance to stretch it's legs while KY works on a next-gen re-iteration hopefully on a shorter time period.

Think about how long they took to produce GT5, a game that consisted largely of crudely upscaled cars and tracks from GT4. Now imagine how far off GT6 would be if it was being developed for the PS4. It would possibly never even see release at all, and if it did we'd probably just be playing with the same car models from GT5.

So now PD are gonna start even later with PS4 development? What good will that do? If they started GT6 for PS4 back in 2010 after wrapping up GT5, they would've been 3 years in development. So no to your "it would possible never ever see release at all".

It seems idiotic not to have it on PS4 day one. How many people sell/trade their systems when they upgrade? Sony just gave five million GT fans a reason not to buy a PS4. Moronic. Of course it should be on PS3, but not exclusively.

Why does this surprise so many.

It's just like Pokemon Black and White 2 was released for DS released after the 3DS came out.

PS4 userbase: 0

PS3 userbase: 70-80 million

Sony hasn't said shit. No tweets, no blog posts, no nothing about this.

because of this:

This is really what surprises me the most. Why make the effort to develop a new IP, when you release a new game of what might be the biggest racing IP alongside it?

Well, i guess that's that then.

Was kind obvious it would be PS3. Bigger market, easy to make their money back.

:(
playstation 4 announcement at E3 surely though, right?
right?

Well, at least the PS3 is going out with a bang. God of War, Beyond, The Last of Us and Gran Turismo in the last year before the successor console gets released is the strongest swan year line up ever.

Except PS4 dev kits didn't exist until 2012...

I don't see what the problem is.
GT5 was really well supported during all year after his release and GT6 will probably be a good game is they properly understood the problem ( menu , standard cars ) GT5 had.

I'll get GT6 because what i want is a good game.

Remember folks God of War 2 come out in March 2007 on the ps2, 5 months after the ps3 was out.

And I think its because GT5 took sooooo long to dev and sony spend so much money on it the engine and everything just needed to be used again.

This. If they update the GT5 engine even more its gonna look amazeballz. If they made if for PS4 they wound need a whole new engine and Polyphony is slooooow

yeah it baffles me too that people here can't understand it.

This is long a shot. They knew GT6 would need to be on PS3 that's why they greenlighted Drive Club to start a new franchise on PS4 that was the perfect opportunity and business decision.
