So I guess it's not all that bad that Mikasa got that pretty makeover because the shock she got from hearing about Eren's fate would have been less apparent otherwise lol.

Episode 7

The awful soundtrack continues. Sawano is a really overrated composer who basically only knows how to make one type of music - and he's not very good at that either. I'll never understand why people like him. I really fear what he's going to do to Monolithsoft's WiiU game. >_<

That aside, this was a pretty okay episode. Still has all the same stupid things I dislike about it - dumb characters, cheap stills, hilarious abuse of motion lines, but hey the Titan action was really cool. Tanaka really saved Tachikawa's butt this week. The direction absolutely wouldn't have worked without good animation for the action. I really like the way they made the Titans move in the fight at the end. The cuts were really fast but also extremely dynamic, so there was a ton of impact in the movement. Good stuff.

Now excuse me while I wash my ears to get the after effect of those terrible vocal tracks out of my brain. :p

Since they showed that they teach them that the titans don't have sexual organs and that it is unknown how they reproduce, my theory is that the eaten humans become titans.

But since Eren seems to be special, he comes back with a conscious and fights the other titans.

Let's see if my prediction is right.

Hopefully he can transform into a human being again, because i really liekd his character :/

My theory as well.

When is
a pomegranate just a pomegranate? Is this really a spoiler? Questions like these need answers. I looked at a screencap. When I saw it initially I thought it just looked like a pomegranate. I have now confirmed it is a pomegranate. The question is whether I can be arsed to research pomegranate symbolism?

Yes.

This show...is alot of fun to watch. be interesting seeing if anyone manages to survive long enough for their characters to fill out.

7 was REALLY good. <3 Mikasa

You know a show is good when you've read the manga and still love how it develops.

PS: Great music too

Well, I think a big part of it is seeing this stuff animated. It's a much more enjoyable experience than seeing static panels on a page. But I still keep up with the manga just to stay current on the story.

Weakest episode so far. Disappointing after the excellent last two Battle for Trost episodes (interesting naming convention).

Couple interesting things happening but damn did they waste a lot of time. I swear half the episode was people sitting motionless recalling things that happened five minutes before. I get they have to save money for the big setpieces, but man.

If I remember right, there are panels in the manga of pretty much the same things (not the recap), but of Armin lamenting and stuff.

See the myth of Hariti: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hariti

Hariti was an ogress who abducted children for food to feed her own hundreds of children. The Buddha abducts her youngest child to teach her the grief that she is inflicting on parents, and in contrition she swears to become the guardian of all children, not just her own. From then on she only eats pomegranates instead.

For the show
Mikasa has been cast pretty hard as a figure of enlightenment. In her backstory, her enlightenment comes as the utter necessity to fight and kill to survive. In the scene on this episode, the necessity to fight is reaffirmed in the presence of the pomegranate, even if she has been stripped of the attachments that prompted her enlightenment in the first place.

And just as she has reaffirmed her role as the Buddha of this world, a former predatory Titan is converted to protector.

So actually the pomegranate is pretty central to the themes that the show is building on!

Glad I read the manga, so spoilers aren't even an issue for me anymore. Great episode, was an improvement over the original material IMO.
Mikasa actually fighting back? Did a double take there, much better than the way it was handled in the manga.

I was thinking maybe the humans should attack the Titans using 2 humans per Titan.

That way if one gets grabbed the other can attack from behind and slice its neck before the other gets eaten.

Hmm it would be nice if they rigged the canisters to explode when humans get eaten so that it kills the titan but I guess that would be too much engineering for that time.

Thats another good idea.

The humans really need to sit down and have a huge brainstorming session on how to better make up tactics on dealing with the Titans.

It's been shown that even completely severing the head of the titan is not sufficient to kill it. Only destruction of the spine at the base of the neck can kill them, so your human explosive will just blow a hole in their throat/stomach and leave them no worse for wear.

A big enough explosion would have a pretty good chance of getting some shrapnel to the desired place. I'd rather take death by grenade than getting my head chomped off anyway.

LOL The explosion would happen as soon as the Titan bites down on the canisters or if someone insane jumps and in blows himself up near the throat area.

Did we watch the same episode? I'm pretty sure I heard a couple genres in there.

I mean, not to harp on this too much, but it's been shown the throat area can be annihilated and the titan won't give a damn. (Ep. 7 spoilers)
The titan that's probably Eren punched the jaw off the first one, and literally ripped the head off the other one and still needed to deal finishing blows to the spine between the shoulder blades.
Detonating on bite would most likely deal a lot of damage to the jaw and head, but I doubt the shrapnel would be able to reliably penetrate through the titan's entire throat and exit through the spine. There's quite a bit of meat to get through y'know!

Also I'm fairly certain the gas used is not an explosive variety as that is way more likely to kill the operator in an accident than inert gas.

Read the manga. That way you know what you're in for. I enjoy the manga, but I can absolutely see where Duckroll's hate is coming from now. . .it's pretty justified hahaha

Every single episode has been better than the last in my opinion.

The music is fine.

The only real problem I have is the excessive use of stills.

What if he grabs both? They do have two arms.

About the exploding cannister thing... first of all they can Regen their head so if it blows up in the mouth its not a guaranteed kill. Secondly, depending upon how the cannister is wired to explode you can accidentally trigger it in a situation where you might have lived.

Probably that leader who was trying to abandon the citizens.

I wouldn't care for a fighting game in this universe but I would love a Co-op Shadow of the Colossus game based on this universe. Lots of platforming in fast motion, scale giants and target weakspots.

Given than Spiderman games have had continually shit web-swinging, even while Spiderman 2 is right there, I'd have no faith in anyone delivering a good Titan game.

Yeah, I'm starting to get a little disappointed. That recap was way too long. I realize there are sacrifices to be made to have your show look this good, but still. I hope this was the lowest point and we don't actually get a recap episode.

Doesn't help that I had the biggest event of this episode spoiled for me.

Maybe I should just wait for the amazing soundtrack to be released, read the manga alongside it and wait for the blu-rays to come, which hopefully will have fixed some stuff. I feel I've heard about the giants and the walls a thousand times by now.

The show is still really good though. It's just because it's so damn good that I'm disappointed by these 'small' things.

Not read the manga, but watched episode 7. So obvious what's going to be revealed in episode 8. Why not just show it already? If I'm wrong, I'll have egg on my face, but I'm about 90% sure.

Speculation (and spoiler for EP7):

Eren is a titan, which leads to my conclusion, that each human that is eaten, in fact, turns into a titan. But, there are only a handful of titans that retains some of the human traits (the Abnormals). Eren titan as kept his inhuman drive to kill titans and help humanity. Hence he kills other titans.

Just speculation...

Nah. Lead protagonist has to be special. I bet he is the only who can do it.

lol no.
Considering that there's a serum that can turn people into Titans, presumably, it's very very unlikely that he's the only one with that ability. Especially taking into consideration the existence of 'intelligent' Titans, which Eren is presumably part of. I don't agree with dead people turning into Titans though.

The recap only in beginning before the OP right? I thought its common in anime.

I did not. I've never actually partaken of the series.
Just mentioning it because that's a case where adhering to the source material lavishly can lead to ugly yet beautiful experiences.
da fuck did you just say

I hope you fart in a crowded elevator and everybody knows it was you
The pop/rock/shitty 2000s alternative song during the supposedly fist-pumping speeches are completely out of place. Evangelion this is not.

Unless they're trying to stretch out content by making shorter episodes, it's not really common to have 2 whole minutes of recap before the episode starts. Obviously, we know why they're doing it here though. Lolololol.

While the running time of the episode is the usual 24 minutes, if you take away the recap at the start, the OP, the ED, the preview, and the three instances in the episode where there are Mikasa flashbacks to stuff which either happened in the same episode, or the episode just before this (lol), there are only 18 minutes of original animation this week. It's definitely noticeable.

When you guys were complaining about the recap, I figured it would have been like half the episode, not 2 minutes. That shit is tame compared to what I've had to deal with.

Must because I going through Gundam SEED and other mech show lately... its seem like a routine.

Loving the show so far, and this is my first manga in 10+ years. The problem I had with manga is that they drag and drag the shows to no end. Just wondering since the books are out there, is this show gonna drag on forever or is there a definitive number of episodes set?
Thanks
