One of my favourite villagers is moving out today and I can't stop him. I hope the old trick of a mail with furniture still works as I really don't want him to leave. T_T

People were wondering what the extra feature EU and NA versions of the game would get. Well an English Iwata Asks was posted by NoE today and has the following:

Iwata Asks said:
In the European version of the game, model homes created by Nintendo will also appear in the HH Showcase. These homes will be distributed via SpotPass.

This has made me really happy, a lot of people would have had a very empty showcase area otherwise. Myself included!

Gamekult.com Import Review

Taking advantage of the superior power of the 3DS, Animal Crossing: New Leaf marks the return of an important Nintendo licence. Graphically cute, music and sound effects too, once inside, his world and his artistic direction become extremely familiar and delicious. I must say that once again the game is heavily loaded with "slices of life" that you need to fill according to your desire : planting flowers, chasing bugs, design your home, there are no scenario or quest, or even game over in this so call "doll house" game. Intelligently using StreetPass functions, Animal Crossing allows to exchange his creations, whether clothing or planners, with friends or strangers. Quickly repetitive, the title is a little treat for those who can can give a few minutes a day to set small business of the town in which you became mayor here. A very special treat for a type of game that will satisfy casual gamers.

+ the fun side of StreetPass
+ the songs of the boatman
+ a ton of activities to achieve
+ rich clothes editor
+ the many shops to unlock
+ ability to manage urban

- quickly repetitive
- frustrating to miss stores working hours
- interface a little weak for transactions
- impossible to get a reminder when an animal gives you an appointment

7/10 (editor's choice)

Can you still visit friend's towns like you could in Wild World?

Also, if anyone's had experience with both 3DS and 3DS XL what's the preferred system?

You can and it's still you plus 3 visitors.
I got the 3ds at launch and never felt the love, there were loads of petty little problems with the design of it. I changed it when the XL wa launched and I've never looked back. I love it.

What battery life do you get on that? Apparently there's no battery extender (in the US anyways) for 3DS XL.

I'll be honest, I've never timed this one. The original was awful though.
I had a red flashing light yesterday at 7 I plugged in the charger and played for a few hours and turned the plug off at 10. In the morning I cleared my streetpass and read my mail, thats all and It's flashing again now. Not very scientific I know, sorry.
I'm in the UK if that makes any difference to the battery.

Might as well keep my regular 3DS as a backup I guess. Can't really pass up on the AC model coming over to the US, but I can't ignore that battery either.

You can order items from the shop you see in houses here right? I'm worried these changes will make the games incompatible with the Japanese version - I was hoping that my Mrs with the PAL version could get all the spotpass stuff - then come join my JP game and hand them over.

Nah, the games remain compatible. In Iwata Asks, they talk about how that is the only way to get items from certain events. Like, at New Years, they eat something (buckwheat noodles?) in Japan. If you want that item in your AC, you need to get it from a Japanese player.

How is the neighbor AI? What, If any, improvements have they made? Such as more personalities or any semblance of recognition of things you write them in letters?

I'm going to feel dumb if this is a "we already knew that" kind of thing, but as somebody who has been worried if Japanese QR codes for the game would work in the NA version (and QR codes being cross-region in general), I talked to Nintendo to see if I could get confirmation on if they'd work or not.

So, I talked to Nintendo, and as you can read here, they have indeed confirmed cross-region compatibility.

Awesome! Oh, and I didn't know that at all, shidoshi. So glad to hear this news. I'm going to go NUTS with scanning Japanese QR codes, I think :p

I didn't know it had been confirmed, thanks. I'm so pleased all the screenshots of qr codes littering my desktop can be used!

Hey, trying to decide what to do about this game and thought you fine folks would be able to help me out. My wife looooved Wild World (played for like 2.5 years daily). Think it's worth getting another 3DS to play two seperate towns? Or if we do local are we okay to do one mayor and have seperate homes in the town? Just not sure how local multi works in this one. Thanks!

I kind of have a similar question. My gf likes the sims so I'm wondering if she would like this game as well. I also want to play however I will only have one 3ds...can there be multiple games on the same system? BTW, how did this game review in JP...I hear it sells like crazy.

Tempy

don't ask me for codes
The OT for the EU/US version will be up on Sunday or so I think.

Not sure if it's worth having a separate community thread alongside of it, since the OT will eventually be relegated to the Community forum.

I guess we'll have to do without Friend Code exchanging until then.

Yeah.

Okay, listen up guys. The spreadsheet for FCs and the like will go up with the OT, I implore you to fill in your info immediately even if you don't have FC. I'll edit it for you when your bundle/3DS/Game arrived OR just leave it empty for pm purposes. :)

I only want to tell you this so you could get your unique town names in.

The OT will go up this coming Saturday @ Midnight or Sunday Afternoon. I hope its the latter preferably since I'll be asleep.

The next thread has to be the most dudebro AC thread ever

YO BRAH I HEARD YOU GOT MAD PEACHES UP IN THIS BITCH
I want this to happen now!

Also I don't want to see the OT locked, so PLEASE let us stay away from the creepy stuff. We've had two warnings now!

Probably shouldn't be posting in here guys. Seems awfully like tip-toeing around the mods decision, much as I'd love to discuss AC over the next few days.
I'm sure we're allowed to discuss the game. Just not post any creepy sexual shit. Which is fair enough. That thread went mental.

didn't follow that thread, but i've booted up my copy after 2 months of not playing and i'm half back into it. mostly just cleaning up my town, grinding some bells and prepping to play with eu/us folk.

jesus, didn't realise i sunk 200+ hours..O_O

It went way too far. If anybody wants to create a thread in Gaming, feel free, but I'm not sure I want to risk it. And the OT is up on Sunday.

Yeah, I wouldn't risk making a new thread before the OT is made.

I think we can wait, or hell, use this thread for discussion? I'm sure we won't step on any toes that way as long as we don't get too crazy.

This is what I get for sleeping... Eh, its not a painful wait until Sunday.

I even got a new Avatar and New Leaf'ed it, too.

So the "stalk" market is this; every Sunday morning, a sow named Joan will come to your town. She will sell white turnips for varying prices, usually around 90 bells, but it fluctuates wildly, as much as 600 bells I've heard, and even more. Now, the caveat in turnips is selling them at a profitable price before they go off (which takes a week) to Tom Nook, whose prices for buying turnips will also change twice a day throughout the week (he doesn't buy on Sunday mornings). If you're lucky enough, you'll make mad dollar (or bell) through it. Also, the turnip buy price in your friends towns will all be different, so it encourages communication in order to get the best prices.

Ooooh gotcha. Interesting, I did not know how the "investment" system worked. I guess this is why we would have a big list of friends to be able to communicate prices in varying values.

Hopefully the moderators will hand out temporaries to folk that won't take heed. It's hardly fair on the people that just want to talk about the game.

Just bought Oracle of Seasons, still finishing Ocarina Master Quest off so lots to tide me over until release day.

Sounds like a fine idea to me. I didn't really look through the thread to the point of what I missed last night, but everything before that didn't really seem too terrible. I've seen worse elsewhere on GAF.

In ACNF news, though, I still need to watch the newest Inside the Treehouse video.

Was it Sats' fan-fiction that broke the camel's back and got it shut down? SAAAAAAAATS!! *shakes fist in the sky*

Thank Nook we have this place for a temporary shelter before the OT hits. In reality I'm not sure I'd trade any of the crazy from the last thread just for it to be open a few extra days. It was definitely one of the more, uh, interesting discussion threads I've been a part of on GAF.
