Leaked Dark Souls 2 Concept Art looks grossly incandescent

Looking at the art, the sea's presence is definitely something that was missing in Dark Souls.
Ash Lake felt pretty close to what I was craving, though.

Every time I open this thread, there's yet another more horrifying monstrosity waiting to greet me.

What in fuck's name is this?

Jesus Christ.

It all depends on the speed. In the Souls games I always fear the agile aggressors more than the lumbering giants which often leave open huge windows of time to attack.

And also it could be a set piece or friendly NPC.

This is definitely by a different artist/team than Dark Souls 1's, totally different vibe if it's real.

It's nice, yeah, but different. Dark Souls 1/Demon Souls art had a more rough sketch look to it.

Heck, even the original Dk2 art looked like what I'm used to:

Check out the design works artbook for Dark Souls. A lot of the art has the same style.

What? Boobs? Some of you pretty sensitive. Shit, the only skin on her is her face and that outfit is beautifully rendered/designed.

I'm pretty sure people wont be happy until there is literally no difference from the man and woman (like Dark Souls), but then it would be anita's Woman-MAN issue thing. But, I digress -- the concepts look great, is there a name on the concept artist? I love that composition/pose on the first one, that armor is gorgeous.

I'm talking about separated breast plates for women. They aren't functional. I like boobs and all, I mean, who doesn't? It's the fact that realistically (even though this is a video game) the way that women's breast plates are designed, one blow to the chest would kill them because it's pretty much put up a target for the sternum. Most suits of armor have padding in between your chest and the breast plate themselves because that stuff is heavy and uncomfortable. In the end, it really isn't needed, unless you really want to tell the difference between a man or woman in the game I suppose.

I'd wager that that was the point.

I liked some of it, some of it I did not. But concept art isn't much to judge a game by either way.

People tend to gloss over that Dark Souls has a different art style, atmosphere, and vibe than Demon's. Dark Souls was a dead, ghostly world that the Gods had abandoned. Demon's Souls was a mad world sinking into Hell, damned by its King. Dark Souls II shifting again should not be a surprise, and I'd actually welcome it at this point.

Man I swear whenever a Souls discussion pops up, it makes me want to start over and play again. I really need to finish up the Artorias DLC.

edit: never-mind, this post is probably more suited for the sexism in gaming thread.

Dear God, thank you. Please let more people be like you, sir.

This is Dark Souls. It looks great. I'm totally on-board with just discussing more gruesome medieval death. Spiders on fire? I want it all to be on fire.

Really looking forward to this, I must admit I did prefer Demon Souls to Dark Souls, but obviously that is subjective...

Welcome to GAF, I love your username and avatar.

Also, this art is awesome. I don't wanna wait until next year for this.

Some of the concept art looks really good, and some looks rather bad.

I don't like the boob plate mainly because, as said earlier, it really doesn't fit the style. It looks like an illustration from my Pathfinder core rulebook. If it was something insane like Smough's armor it'd fit perfectly into Dark Souls, but generic armor with two cups just sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, I kinda liked how armor wasn't gender specific in Dark Souls; it was annoying in Demon's Souls to find a sweet set of armor, try to put it on, and then fail because of a choice at the beginning of the game that you thought was only cosmetic. On the other hand, the spikey armor is way too chaotic. The crazy-looking sets in Dark Souls still tended to have some real order to them. They looked ornamental, like a highly detailed statue built out of stone. The GIANT SPIKES OF DOOM TURNING INTO SMALLER SPIKES™ look very out of place.

I love the environmental art, but I'm hoping there isn't more than one hub area in the game. Firelink and the Nexus felt like refuges, and that fits the bleak tone of the Souls games. Having a place where people live and work normal lives clashes with the directionless isolation previous games had. That ship on the mountain is hot. The giant spider-like thing made out of ruins is also potentially really cool. More spiders is always a good thing. The man-scorpions also continue the games' proud tradition of combining people with chelicerates like centipedes and spiders.

Overall, I'm hoping the visual style of the game takes more from the trailers we have seen (Including the gameplay footage) than the concept art.

OP, I have to deleted my Photobucket album for Cron Zhang said he has been sued by his client.
Sh*t, I didn't estimate such bad thing could happen, he uploaded these pictures in February, they just stay there until I found them. I thought it's all safe for share.
I suggest you do the same thing, this in not good.

Like others have said, the boobplate seems out of place in Dark Souls. Hopefully they don't use that in the actual game and it's just concept art. The rest of the art looks really nice though.

Even though that girl in white looks odd and doesn't really fit into my idea of Dark Souls, I'm incredibly excited for any news regarding this game. Which is quite strange, considering I still haven't completed Demon's Souls (stupid last boss) or Dark Souls (stupid, stupid fortress of traps). I can't help I'm really bad, yet still loving every second of my beatings. :D

If it doesn't insult your honor as Souls player you can easily cheese False King Allant with a bow and arrows. If you don't move once you leave the elevator through the fog door you can snipe him thanks to the arc of the arrows without him attacking you.

Sen Fortress is awful the first time when you don't know what's around the next corner. Once you do though it's not that bad anymore.

If it's anything like the previous Souls games, though, the inhabitants will be incredibly bizarre and not feel particularly welcoming.

an honest mistake, both words start alike

beksiński doing artwork for dark souls II?
you do know he is dead right :(

Cool to see so much works inspired by him tho. fits dark souls pretty well!

But nice volume of art. Great black and white pieces that sell the scale pretty well. Some of the pieces are cringe worthy, the armorless girl does not fit the theme, and yet he placed her in some of the environment pieces.
most of the designs feels safe, which is not really what I like to see in dark souls.

I really like that dragon. Looks awesome. But the pictures have this generic fantasy look, especially the male and female characters. It definitely does not look like Dark Souls.

The basic Demons Souls/Dark Souls universe was made up by Miyazaki I believe. Apparently, he'd been wanting to make such a game for a very long time. Why would they not include him, and let him direct this game as well? If they want to keep the feel, I think it's essential to keep the same director onboard, especially the guy who made up the universe. It doesn't make sense. I'm pretty sure he's responsible for the great atmosphere, direction, etc of the games.

The first trailer didn't have that Dark Souls feel at all, all though the gameplay did look like Dark Souls.

Anyhow, the pictures look way too smooth. Dark Souls had this used, grimey, antique-like look to the armor/weapons/people. The stuff that was supposed to look clean also had a unique, grimey-ish look.

I'm on board with all of this - especially the environments, some of them look stunning, I hope they translate to ingame with just as much atmosphere. I have faith.

Is that a town hub? I'm kind of excited about that. Think it could work really well if implimented well. I'd love to have all the different areas lead off in different directions from the central hub, and see other players walking about town, merchants etc.

Okay... Assuming the worst... Populated hubs?

Nope.

Nopenopenopenopenope.

Dark Souls' life-blood is pure isolation and a near suffocating, nauseating oppression. Adding a human presence and warmth will fuck with that completely.

How about the third one? :p

Lord Lefford frowned. “I saw that great hairy one today, the one who insisted that he must have two battle-axes, the heavy black steel ones with twin crescent blades.”
“Shagga likes to kill with either hand,” Tyrion said as a trencher of steaming pork was laid in front of him.
“He still had that wood-axe of his strapped to his back.”
“Shagga is of the opinion that three axes are even better than two.”

Shagga son of Dolf confirmed in Dark Souls 2! :D

Normally I'd agree with you but if I had a flat piece of armor pushing on my tits it would probably hurt.
No, it wouldn't, because armour isn't made like that.

Here's a man and a woman pictured together, each with their kendo armour:

Another:

There is zero justification for boob armour beyond fanservice. None. Disappointed that Dark Souls would have that, but hopefully this (and the bizarre little girl in a tutu, WTF!) will be cut from the final game.

This just might have even better and more beautiful locations than Dark Souls. I'm very impressed with this artwork.

Sorry to bump the thread, but hope someone can see this.
Today Cron Zhang (the concept artist) update his Weibo (consider as Chinese Twitter but you know Twitter has been banned in China), said he has been sued by his client (From Software or agency for the deal)and facing enormous indemnification.

He said after From Software officially announced his artwork, he thought the project has been made public. Then he uploaded his works and set them overt.

It first happened in February 2013, after two months I found them, feel exiting, then post them at Polygon forum (My NeoGAF account haven't been approved at that time, and I can't start a new thread at NeoGAF until now). Then OP found my thread, repost it here, then it really begun to spread.

This finally lead to this……accident.

But now you guys know these concept arts are real, and at least some of them have been accepted by From Software……but I don't know if they still could come true in the game, for now things turn into a mess.

My suggestion is: You can keep those pictures, but please don't spread them anymore, for both the artist and From Software don't like see this happen. I have already deleted my Photobucket album and Polygon forum thread, if some of you want to see that thread text backup, just PM me.

Source is his Weibo, but you may need to register to see it, (again, one of many reasons I hate Sina):

LOL, oops. Poor guy... well, what has been seen cannot be unseen, though I wish this artist luck in settling this peacefully with From.

I also hope From won't accept all of that art, because while most of it is pretty awesome (the locales mostly), the character art is pretty terrible, especially that little girl and the boob plate knightess. :|

All looks good. Just hope none of these push me to the point of never going back to the game like S&O. Fuck those guys. Seriously.

And that's awesome ^

Your wife clearly has the right idea: She's dragging you to bed so that in the morning you can be full of energy and ready to waste 3 hours in front of the tv screen again.

Also, the detail on those tiny accessories is amazing.

hopefully this (and the bizarre little girl in a tutu, WTF!) will be cut from the final game.
Nah, I have no problem with tutu girl. It looks weird and kinda stupid, but a lot of clothing and armor sets in Dark Souls are like that. It wouldn't be out of place next to Siegmeyer and Dusk of Oolacile. Who knows, it might be the next Catarina set where it looks silly but everyone loves it anyway.
