PSN Plus needed to play online!!!

As someone who has been very critical of Sony, I'll let this one pass since they are going out of their way to not include any of the DRM BS that MS is going with.
Would have been great if they were able to keep it as it was, but let's face it, they are not in the best position financially speaking right now and can really use the money.
Much more understandable than MS doing it for the past decade.

something that i realized now...there is no "casual online" play for me anymore. me and my waifu dont play much online, only 3-4 times a year, but this won't be either anymore. no playing with my nephew or friends. 60 bucks a year aint worth for some casual multiplayer.

yeah, this for me too. I have PS+ until september 2014 and I dont' know if that means I'll just get driveclub for free or maybe I have to buy another year? But one benefit of free online on PS3 was because I only play online a little.

No way I'd pay for PS+ just for that, but I find the PS3 and vita value with free games, and online saves worth it.

I guess thats the point really - you put together a package of measures, in the aim that across most people, each person will find something of value that justifies the purchase.

For me it is the free games (and that gives me access to online occasionally).

And I do sometimes trade in games, and the savings I make (versus being forced to keep hold of them) should more than cover the yearly price.

I'm mostly concerned about what this means for accounts. I have my own master account on the PS3 which is PS+, but my kids have separate accounts for their saves etc. They can play my PS+ games, but they don't get online save uploading. I'd want clarification that they will be able to play online - needing multiple accounts wouldn't be justifiable for me.

Seriously, people are upset by this?

This is most acceptable now that we know there is no DRM or online bullshit. This is a plus in my book....

Your master account is fine. All you need is one PS Plus membership and everyone else who makes an account on your PS4 will also be able to play online.

Yeah, I only go MP once a month or so, I can't see the value if the rest of the PS+ stuff fades.

As for accounts, this tweet is hopefully accurate:

I'm still annoyed by this but it's a small price to pay. A single subscription get's you free games on PS3, Vita AND PS4, that is pretty damn amazing.
If you have PS+ when the PS4 is released you wont even need to buy a game with it, you'll have Driveclub waiting for you at home.

How is it a plus?

Needs to be confirmed by another exec before I believe it,
Plus now isn't system wide.

Also the gakai thing, part of plus or separate
Needs confirmation

Don't really care for this, but it's not a deal breaker. First of all, I'm probably getting PS+ (which is a great product) anyway. That does not excuse the move made by Sony, but it makes the transition easier for me personally. Second of all, it't voluntary - no one is making me get this, and you can get a shitloads out of the system even without the online gaming. It is one hell of a push on Sonys part, and I guess many will feel they are making PS+ mandatory, and I get that sentiment even if I don't really see it that way.

More than anything it looks like the "package" that is the PS4 is going to be the best product on the market for me. I don't like everything about it, none of the products out there are perfect for me, but it's the best. As long as the PS4 leaves everything up to me and don't shove anything down my throat I'm pretty much on board with this.

You do realize that Shuhei Yoshida is #3 at Sony Computer Entertainment, right?

He's on the same level as guys like Jack Tretton...if he says it's true, it's official Sony policy.

Yoshida doesn't mess around when it comes to statements like that.

whats this whole spectating thing? Isnt that just the live streaming to ustream feature? Wouldnt you be free to spectate on that website?

I guess they mean PS+ members can only live stream..

Fuck that.

What they're doing is charging $400 for the console and hoping to get another $250-$500 from you in PS+ fees over the life of the console, so you're effectively paying $600-$900 for the console instead of the $400 that it initially looks like.

That's why they moved to a pay-to-play online model.

It's a classic bait and switch, and you're falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

Please don't put Netflix and other apps behind the pay wall.

It was confirmed at the conference they wouldn't do that.

And in case you needed further confirmation:

They said they wont. Free users can play SP games and use applications

And PS+ is such a better deal the xboxlive. lol 2 free games MS?

Ps+ gets me driveclub AT LAUNCH! I dont have it on PS3 because I dont have a PS3 here but I might get one soon

its not that bad, they only limit online multiplayer out, all apps and other perks are there for non paying users. And really, why wouldnt you want PS+, all those "free" games! :D even Microsoft copied that and gives out games now :D

Glad I'm not the only one who understands it, this is just as underhanded as those phone contracts and car leases, hidden costs out the wazoo.

For that kind of money I can buy way way better hardware than what's in ps4 and never have to worry about having to have some subscription active when I want to play a game I've had for ages.

But you get Drive Club PS+ Version for free!

Pretty goddamn lame. PS4 was sounding like a nice no BS console to keep around for a few games. Since I'm not going to have it as a main platform, I might as well not own it at all. That cost adds up over the years. I would rather set that aside for a PC upgrade or a Vita.

It's way, way better than the Xbone situation but it comes down to me not wanting to bust out the credit card every three months when I want to play some PS4 game for a week or two.

Don't be dense
if it's not your main console, don't get Ps+

you can still play off line

I do not even care. I was fully expecting it and in fact was hoping they would go that route because it opens a new revenue stream they can use to upgrade their online server capabilities. At this point, who would buy the PS4 without a PSN+ membership? That thing is just crazy, the amount of goodies it brings just makes it impossible for me to be mad about it.

What was the deal with the indie games they showed after they announced Driveclub was coming for the PSN+? My stream lost it at that moment.

Yes I do,
But Phill Harisson has proven just a little while ago that you should take casual statements with a grain of salt.
All I know is my cloudsaves on ps3 aren't systemwide and I hope for the best but remain sceptical

I'm still FUCKING PISSED OFF about this. Fuck Sony for copying Microsoft's bullshit, honestly I don't know what I'll do next gen.

Is there anyone that can tell me if they have dedicated servers for all games or not? I could somehow excuse this bullshit if there are dedicated servers.

PS+ needs to bring value to the PS4 like it did PS3, and I don't see how it's happening on release if they don't migrate some of the existing PSN library over.

Can someone please explain the instant game collection to me?
Are they games availableto you forever as long as you are a PS+ member or are they available for a certain time?

You get driveclub on instant game collection with PS+ at release, so at the very start you get what looks to possibly be a good driving game.

The announcement was pretty sneaky. First get huge applause for being less evil than Microsoft and then casually sneak in the information that they're adopting one of MS crappiest policies from last gen. Granted PS+ is a lot better service than xbox live in itself, but paying for online is still not really defensible. But I guess if people are willing to pay it's just a missed opportunity not to charge them. I personally don't play a lot of online, but his means I'm far less likely to start

This concerns me a bit, it doesn't seem to affect me for now(despite a paywall always being bullshit) since my ps+ still runs for 2 years, but i sincerely hope that the quality of the free content wont drop now that they included a different, seemingly more important incentive for many, to participate in the program.

so if you have US,EU and Japan games and want to play online you need to have a PSN account for each region with PS+ for each account????

can anyone ask Sony this please???

Don't want to sound like an a**hole, but quit your damn crying. In light of all the recent amazing announcements by Sony, the $5 for PS+ is nothing.

Guess there is no other way. I have been holding out on going Gold on my 360 from the get-go but the PS Plus package has always sound worth your money that I can not say ''no'' this time.

Forever as long as you add them to you dl list within a certain time period and as long as you've subbed.
If you resub you regain acces.

Discounts are yours forever even if you stop your sub
