Looks great, definitely one of the biggest surprises from that Nintendo Direct even though the game was expected. Can't wait to see online capabilities as well since they haven't shown anything yet.

I also love the fire boost, it looks great.
Hopefully they've somehow brought bikes into line, either by removing the problematic bikes from MKW or by getting rid of the wheelie you could do (that shit was sooooo spammable on straightaways and ridiculously unfair as a result LOL).

Besides, Mario Kart Wii was released in April back in 2008 so it seems like a good date for Mario Kart 8 aswell.
Actually, I'm pretty sure they'll try to release it in April.

I've only played the Mario Kart 64... never bothered with the others but this looks too good to pass up.

It really depends on where you watched it. The live stream even in HD was hideous but man those dev direct videos on Wii U were beautiful. I feel bad that I was down on the conference all day.

You could do something similar in MK7, that's only the lowest level of boost it's giving, I'm not sure if it works out as worth it.
Played this on the show floor today. For the record, I tried to snake and couldn't pull it off.
Driving feels really good. Magnet mode has a bit of inertia to turns. I disliked mkwii but loved how this played immediately.
The fire effect on the kart tailpipes looks so well done in person.

Well snaking was still possible in the entries after DS, it's just largely situational. Looking at what you saw there, that's not the kind of snaking that was possible in MKDS. They would need to change the power slide back to the DS style(i.e. rapidly pressing left and right on the dpad during a power slide to build up the charge), for snaking to really make a return. True snaking allowed racers to power slide boost at every part of the course if they had the skill.
I really Hope I enjoy this Mario Kart. I didn't like Double Dash or Mario Kart Wii. My favorite is still Mario Kart 64. I really want to be able to play 4 local players in GP. even in N64 you could only play 2 player GP. more then that and you only had a 4 player race. N64 had really tight control I was a Master at mario kart 64 it was my first game for n64.
I hated double dash because it was based on Super Mario Sunshine. I hated the NPCs in sunshine. having two players in one kart was a gimmick. I also hated when they added wings to the Blue Turtle Shell. in the n64 version you could be in 8th place fire a blue shell and it is possible to hit everyone on the way to first place. When the Shell Flys it misses everyone except the guy in first place

It might take longer I dunno. The speed it build depends on skid angle so it's variable.
Meh, I stand by Mario Kart 7 being the big leap the series needed. But I don't doubt for a second that I'll enjoy this far more.
