PS4 Launch and Standard Editions, which is your preorder? (Amazon)

Anybody picking up a warranty, and where would you do that since it won't be out for 5+ months? Squaretrade warranties are only valid on first 30 days? I swear Amazon has a 2-yr warranty, but their "help" claims they didn't and I'd have to ask Sony..

Sony did an extended warranty for the PS3 and Vita through the PSN store. I imagine they will do the same again.

Did amazon.ca have a launch day version?

Whatever they had at first was very limited and sold out quick. Either way makes no difference to me as I'm bound to get the system a few days later due to my location.

I was surprised to see how high the Xbone is on the Video games sales charts on Amazon. I was, that is, until I saw the game pre-orders.

The first PS4 game is Watch Dogs at 8th place, followed by:
Killzone: Shadow Fall in 14th place.
Battlefield 4 in 17th place.
Infamous: Second Son in 20th place.
Assassin's Creed 4 in 28th place.
Call of Duty: Ghosts in 33rd place.

Then....

The first XBone game is Forza 5 at 35th place.

What this leads me to believe is that the bulk of initial Xbox One sales are due to hedgers and scalpers.

Yeah the PS4 is outselling the xbone on Amazon but the software pre-orders are not even remotely close. I know Amazon is far more indicative of the "hardcore" gamer but that seems like another sign MS is losing that core right now.

amazon.ca doesnt seem to make a distinction between the editions

and Canada stopped taking pre-orders altogether instead of putting a "Standard Edition" like Amazon USA, so chances are that if you got to pre-order during the couple of hours that PS4 was available for pre-order on Amazon Canada, then you should have it Day 1.

I'd like to know this too.

I pre-ordered mine within seconds/a minute of it going live. Then it sold out shortly afterwards. Now they have pre-orders available again. http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00BJB9ZT6/ ~_~

If I'm not guaranteed a system after ordering so quickly, I will not be pleased. I really wish they'd inform the customers how they're handling the allocation.

I don't understand why it says I'm getting the launch edition. I preordered at 2PM est yesterday (June 11). I also selected 2 day shipping.

I remember waiting in line in 2006 without a preorder. It was a nightmare. Never again.

I waited in line for about 7 or 8 hours for a 360...this back when I didn't have cell phones or tablets to occupy me.

I'm first on the gamestop list so no worries, but I may find myself sitting in line again to sell one.

With all the tech available these days it wouldn't be too painful.

I bought a Vita at launch, a Wii U at launch and now a PS4 at launch. That's all the systems I will be buying for a while (I already have a 3DS).

Same here. I'm usually one to get everything as it comes out, but Xbone has some things to work through. Mainly, I know that they'll come out with a better looking box in due time. God, the Xbox looks so ugly :/

Launch Edition baby! I have both X1 and PS4 day one editions. Preordered X1 just in case they magically change their bullshit DRM stance. I'm still holding out since I want to play Ryse!

wow they just put that up for pre-orders again, I hope they change to launch editions all of us who got to pre-order right after the conference

So is the launch edition US only?

I can't find anything about it here in the UK and I ordered mine 4 minutes after the conference finished

I really hope they do.

I'm afraid that they're going to take more pre-orders for them then they have available, and then fulfill them in a random-style order.

It should be first-come, first-serve, but this is my first time pre-ordering a system from them, especially one in-demand as much as the Playstation 4. If they mis-handle the situation, it will definitely be the last.

I really like the way Amazon.com is handling the allocation. Those that pre-ordered early have a "Launch Edition" added to their order, so that Amazon knows these are priority orders. It also lessens the worry on the customer.

Just chatted with Amazon. They said I got a standard version even though it says I got a launch version on the page. Better double check on yours, guys.

EDIT: Just spoke with another (in Amazon chat) lol:

Amazon rep: Dang!!
I really don't know how to say this.
It really is going to be hard.
However let me break it down to you gently.
You got the Launch edition for the order!!!!! :D
Your one hard guy to scare.
So you would be assured you got the Launch edition.

so it was sold out minutes after it is available? nice.

I don't think so. I preordered the next morning and I have a launch system. I am a Prime member so maybe that has something to do with it. I got free 2 day shipping too, which gets me release day delivery.

Okay, so I check my order on both mobile and PC and it says I'm set for the Launch edition. However, I placed a support ticket with Amazon, just to make sure. Here's the thread.

Me: The order I placed does not say whether it's a launch edition or not. I ordered it the night of the price announcement so I assume it's the Launch edition, but I wanted to make sure.

Amazon: Hello, I understand that you'd like to verify if your order is for the PlayStation 4 Launch Edition. I checked your order #[Number] and I can verify that the order is for the Standard Edition. I'm sorry if this was not made clear to you when you placed the order. I'm not sure if you'd like to cancel this order, so I haven't taken any action in your account. If you still need to cancel the order, visit Your Account (http://www.amazon.com/your-account) and click the "Your Orders" button. As long as your order hasn't shipped yet, you can use the "Cancel Items" button to cancel an individual item or the whole order from there.

Me: Well when I made the order there weren't two options and when I clicked on the product page and highlight the launch edition it says "you ordered this product" but it doesn't say that when I highlight standard, so that's why I guessed it was launch...

Amazon: Hello, I'm sorry to hear about the problem you had when placing order for "PlayStation 4" I've passed your message on to the appropriate people in our company. We value customer feedback such as yours, as it helps us continue to improve the services and selection we provide. However, I confirm that "PlayStation 4" which you've ordered was Standard Edition. If you still need to cancel this item, visit Your Account (http://www.amazon.com/your-account) and click the "Your Orders" button.

So now I'm not so sure. If I go to the amazon page for the PS4 and highlight the Launch Edition, it tells me I've placed that order (The mobile method for checking also confirms this.) Does this mean having placed the order when there only launch editions does not guarantee you a launch edition? I'm hoping support is wrong on this, but I dunno...

yeah that's what I figured, especially since I pre-ordered from amazon.ca like 45 seconds after it went up.

A Shining Example
I ordered as soon as the link was available and its the standard edition. Damn it.

Edit: Did a live chat and the rep switched it over to the launch edition. Yay!

I ordered like 2 hours after the page became available. When I ordered I recall the product page specifying that release date delivery was guaranteed. Right now when I choose the Launch Edition it says I've ordered it. So based on that, maybe I have the launch edition. But based on other peoples' interactiosn with Amazon support, maybe I don't.

Whatever, we'll see.

launch edition here...when i ordered there was no choice to make...and my only shipping options were "standard" and 2-day prime" no mention of "release date"

just finished a little chat session on amazon to verify that my order as a "launch edition" and the rep also guaranteed that all those with "launch editions" will automatically be updated to "release date" shipping as soon as they have a solid release date

I ordered at 11:30 am on June 11th and got a launch version. Guess I got lucky because there was only one option. Must have changed shortly after!

Yeah I put 100 down on both the systems at Gamestop. Don't like Gamestop, but I like the fact that I can just walk in at midnight and pick up my system, games, and play it immediately.
