That's why I feel like starting over on PS4 with a username I like better. Just start fresh. But if I had the opportunity to change my name now I'd get PS+ for PS3 now and just migrate to PS4 no problem.
I think Sony need to work on unifying the content worlwide
Yes, that means Japanese content will be available if you are in America from a US account
How is region switching an edge case?
Changing region actually could easily be done by the user right now, but the functionality is locked. When you create a PSN ID, you input a country/region from the dropdown list.
Then that gives access to that region's PS Store.
It's as simple as giving the user access to that dropdown list again.
Of course, it would be locked behind a 3-6 month limit and/or fee to avoid abuse.
They also need to let people with sub-accounts promote them to master accounts. It's been 7 years, pretty sure most people that were under 18 back when they made their accounts are sick of having to channel in money through the master account just to buy stuff.
it's an edge case because i can't see there being significant use of the feature. gotta weigh the work involved in doing it with the amount of users who would actually make use of it
They aren't able to change ID. Nobody is.
The JP thing is a myth constructed by Westerners who don't understand what is actually happening. What is actually happening is JP users are able to make "nicknames" for themselves. It works kind of like Wii U Nintendo Network ID's, one is a change-able display name and the other (PSN ID) is a locked, unique ID. The reason for this was to allow Japanese characters in the name, since PSN ID's can only have ABC letters.
I want to change my PSN ID from ryoonz to RyoonZ
Oh. Well thanks for clearing that up.
Hopefully these points are looked at and are put into place as they all seem reasonable so far.
PSN ID switching?
People need to be accountable for their social behaviours. It doesn't need to be real names, but the identity should be permanent.
Also, if you messed it up to begin with, probably lay off the alcohol when you sign up for stuff.
I understand the need to change the ID but why are you expecting the account system to be like the Vita's? PSP could only have one PSNID installed at a time, like the Vita and that was before the PS3. There is obviously a difference in how accounts are handled on portables and home consoles by Sony.
If it is as with the PS3, none of region concerns for the PS4 should be warranted. Of course we'll only know once the PS4 actually arrives.
#makePSNbetter sounds like a good tag
Apparently, for a small subset of titles, you have to switch users on your PS3.What limitations are there on PS3? I can play my European bought digital games on my Japanese main account and I get trophies. It's not like the (admittedly shitty) system on the Vita.

Yes. I made the mistake of making my primary a sub account of another one of my accounts. Now every time I want to add funds I have to log in as my master account. They also need to let people with sub-accounts promote them to master accounts. I want the Japanese avatars. On the PS3 you just have a US account and a JP account on the same system, then run content from either.
Region switching isn't even an issue or concern.
tweeted the Sony guys to take a look at this thread. really hope PSN becomes much better
I want the Japanese avatars.
freaking Ace Combat sets and many others never come to the US.
Japanese store also gets crazy anime avatars that would never release in the US.(wouldn't be bad if the US got some on an equal level like comic characters or something)
Had a US account since 2007. Living in the UK since almost after then I kept using that account, but then when I got a Vita I had no choice but to use a UK account.
Now i'm just using this UK account as my main account but I am disappointed since I lost so much content I had on my US account.
At this point I pretty much need to or want to change every one of the 5 or so things that are unchangeable about PSN accounts. I'd really love it if they would, since like every other service (gaming and otherwise) allows you to in some form.
#ALLCREDITCARDSUPPORT
This is the most worrisome to me out of this announcement. I don't live in the US, but I rely on PSN cards here in order to purchase items on my US account (which is my main). I didn't mind it back then but now it's become mandatory to play online, getting PSN cards are inconvenient as my local retailers hardly stock them which means the credit card is the only other alternative.
SONY, if you are listening you need to resolve this ISSUE.
Absolutely begging for this
OMG YES PLEASE-remove games from your trophy list
Just let me filter the damn download list into the following:
Games
Demos
Add-ons/DLC
Apps
Music
Video
Themes
So much for HTML5 Sony!
