Bethesda's next game won't be shown for a while, allowed to work on what they want to

I don't even think we'll see it at next year's E3 to be honest.

"Zenimax Online Studio is an MMO shop," said Hines. "They're making an Elder Scrolls MMO and that is 100 per cent unrelated to... Todd Howard, at this point, has earned the right to do what the hell he wants; nobody gets to tell him different and nobody gets to dictate to him what he gets to do.

"You're laughing because you know it's true
," he continued. "Do you think that even I would go to Todd and say 'listen, I know you want to do this, but these other guys...?' He gets to do whatever he wants. Him and his team are moving forward with the stuff that they want to work on and where they want to go next in making games."

Hines also advised caution, despite his optimism about the project. "I get to see it and it's already really awesome, but it's probably helpful to note that anyone who thinks that what he's working on next is going to be talked about soon doesn't understand game development.

"They just announced that they're moving the whole team onto something else. Give these guys time and space, expect it never and be surprised if it's any time before then.
"

"Arkane, id and all of these guys, they work on really big projects that are ambitious, and it just takes them awhile to get to speed. You know how we are; we like to show what we're up to, not just put something up and there's no substance to it. It's going to be a while."

Damn straight. Each Bethesda game has been more successful than the last, so I don't see why not.

I'm really hoping it's Fallout 4, but for some reason I think they're going to throw a monkey-wrench in and create a new IP or something.

I hope he's working on Fallout 4.

I really hope he isn't. I know few probably share this opinion, but I think there are more than enough post apocolyptic and zombie games coming out the next few years. There is much more potential for new things in a new elder scrolls title. (besides the MMO which I have very low expectations for.)

Hopefully he hires some good writers, combat designers, quest designers and character modelers this time around. Zero interest in another Skyrim or Fallout 3-type game without significant, significant changes.

It's cool to see a publisher talking like that about a dev. Coming from the same guys that are telling the Doom 4 team "get your shit together or else..."

I don't know, I kind of like it. Give freedom, give money, but keep an eye and tell when it sucks.

Didn't the press get shown this behind closed doors at E3

Besthesda could be split A team/B team now, with Fallout belonging to B team and Todd running something else. They've got the money to be a multigame studio now if they want to, and that means something's going to be running without Todd. Seems much more likely that he'd give up Fallout than Elder Scrolls if that were the case. Or he could be on new IP altogether, if he really has that much freedom.

Can they really split the teams and push out games of the magnitude and scale of Fallout 3/Skyrim within reasonable time-frames though? Honestly asking.

After New Vegas, another Fallout from Bethesda would just be an embarrassment.
B, draw a better contract, sweeten the deal, pay bonuses NO MATTER WHAT, and have Obsidian develop Fallout 4 over the next 5 years.

What are the chances that Howards team is moving forward on a new IP and Fallout and Elder scrolls are being done internally or outsourced?

(obsidian pls)

Obsidian needs to fucking put out Stick of Truth already. They're one of the best devs out there and they haven't graced us with a game since 2011 due to a run of bad luck.

Why would they hand over a main-numbered Fallout to another developer? I've seen this come up a number of times but nobody has given a good reason for it to happen, other than it being an unrealistic wish. Fallout: New Vegas 2 - sure. Fallout 4? Never going to happen. (Of course, this is assuming the next Fallout is Fallout 4 and not a spin off).

About as much chance as me posting fanfic of Adam Boyes breakdancing in tutu's in Off Topic every day for a month.

Are you implying you don't want the next Fallout from Obsidian?

Can't we have both? Have Bethesda work on Fallout 4 and then let Obsidian work on the non-numbered sequel to it. That worked well this gen, I love both of the flavours of Fallout received.

Would bethseda actually go for the team split or would they go bigger like assassin's creed and put out their gigantic game in a shorter time period? Both options are good. The one giant team goal avoids the problem that id had with Doom 4 as the established team was doing Rage.

Obsidian making fallout 4 can still come true!

Hire Obsidian.

I like these guys.

I haven't heard anything about it.

I really hope he isn't. I know few probably share this opinion, but I think there are more than enough post apocolyptic and zombie games coming out the next few years. There is much more potential for new things in a new elder scrolls title. (besides the MMO which I have very low expectations for.)
I agree a new Elder Scroll would be good and I'm more a fan of the Elder Scrolls universe then the Fallout universe. But it's pretty soon to be pushing out a Elder Scrolls. Give it until 2015.

Are you implying you don't want the next Fallout from Obsidian?
I'm implying that I want a new Fallout. I honestly don't care who makes it. As long as it's good.

There is nothing they could be working on that has more potential than fallout 4.

It better be Fallout 4.

I'd love to see a game with the town layout/natural environment of Elder Scrolls but with more modern/futuristic technology like Fallout.

I'm kinda shocked Bethesda doesn't have at least two massive teams working on Elder Scrolls and Fallout at this point. They certainly have the money. Oh well, whatever makes them dish more quality out. I'm in the crowd that thought Fallout 3 was better than New Vegas too. NV did some things better than F3 but also took a step back in other areas. I thought the quests, setting and atmosphere in NV were very bland compared to F3. As far as the RPGness goes, NV smashed F3 in that area. F3 was just a lot funner to explore than NV.

With one team it ensures the ips don't get exhausted, which is easy with games as long as Bethesda rpgs. Plus why mess with their golden goose?

I'd love to see a new Fallout game, but I'd also like to see what they could come up with outside of the Elder scrolls and Fallout series. A new setting would be cool. As long as it's still an open world rpg similar to Elder Scrolls and Fallout :p

Kinda like when Valve was allowed to work on anything they wanted, and they chose to pump out another Left4Dead? Fallout 4: confirmed.
