Let's convince Nintendo to go region-free!

One downside of mostly dedicated fans owning Wii U's right now is that dedicated fans are often hard to reason with.

If we could post gifs I'd post this...

Why the need for region free on a console with nothing to import?

Serious question, this makes no sense to me. Your energy would be better spent convincing third parties there's an audience for their games on U.

Posted some reasons why I think region locking should gone in the E3 community.

Why the need for region free on a console with nothing to import?

That's already untrue considering that this affects both 3DS and Wii U. Wii U is weak at the moment but it is not really a target but all Nintedo's platforms. Current and future.

I'll convince 3rd parties with my money when I see worthy efforts.

I'm gonna throw my support for this even though region-locking doesn't bother me in the slightest. No fair to limit consumers from purchasing what they want, especially true for Nintendo fans in countries outside major markets. I hope this leads to some positive change.

Nintendo has more than one platform. Each of those platforms will continue to get games in different territories. Telling third parties there is money on Wii U will not convince them if they already released games and saw there was no money there.

And if you really cannot see how this is an issue without a game to focus on - Dragon Quest X

While this is true for now, it most likely will change in the coming years.
Just looking at the Wii, I would love to be able to play Reginleiv and ExciteBots on my Pal system without needing it to be hacked.

Also I would hope they would implement this across platforms since the 3DS already have quite a few games that I'd like to play but can't since I don't have a US/JP system now.

There are a lot of Japanese only 3DS games. There will likely be games in the future that are region locked in Japan.

Also, as mentioned by others, a LOT of PAL regions the games are more expensive than just importing NTSC copies.

If any company should be region free, its Nintendo. Outside of Nintendo mainline entries, quirky shit is my entire purpose for having the console.

I know we feel invincible because some people believe that NeoGAF single-handedly caused microsoft's DRM-reversal, but let's not act like we're some unstoppable force that can make anything happen in the gaming industry just because we want it really bad.

GAF's anti-DRM twitter spamming was probably just a blip on Microsoft's radar, during the relentless tsunami of bad press they had coming at them.

Needless to say, I wish you all good luck on changing Nintendo's mind though.

When they start releasing games with actual effort instead of year-late ports then people will start buying games.

I suspect that Platinum will find that Wii U owners are willing to buy software, like Warner Bros. discovered before them.

Launch PS4 with nothing but LttP ports from 3rd parties and see how well they sell compared to new games from Sony. There's a catch-22 here and the third parties are the only ones who can break it.

Seriously I think Miiverse complaining comes down to one thing: they are the people who bought the Wii U day 1. Everyone you see there posting has bought Wii U despite its current situation which makes me hope that I didn't buy one too. Seriously you won't find the harder core of Nintendo's customer base anywhere. If they say they want something changed then Nintendo would be wise to listen.

Guys, I'll say it again...I don't think the E3 Community is the best one to use as it seems it won't be around for long.

Well Miiverse posts are only there gathering attention for a moment. Better make new posts later. Also I doubt they would just delete all the posts when they remove the community.

You know what would be cool for people who can draw to do? Draw examples of past games on Nintendo consoles you wouldn't have played if the consoles were region locked.

Amazing!

As long as they see the posts it will be fine, and it's possible it will last till next year and they will change it to E3 2014 Community.

I don't think so. I remember one of NintendoTom's posts implying that it will be taken down shortly after E3.

Nintendo has shown they listen to the opinions on Miiverse, so it may be worth a try. Also, regardless of what the corporate defenders use to say whenever a complaint is raised, voicing your opinion is always better than not doing anything.

If anyone of you genuinely want to use Miiverse - not just to Yeah the posts in this thread, but to look at images and post some comments yourself - I should be able to make you Nintendo Network IDs over the weekend.

We want Nintendo to know that real customers are interested in region unlocking, so don't ask me if you're going to look like a fake account.

If you're interested, PM me. Registration uses:
Date of birth (Day / Month / Year)
Gender
Province and timezone (It's set to Canada: I can put in a random stuff if needed)
Account name (16 characters, not your display name)
Game experience (Beginner, intermediate, or expert)
E-mail address (You need to confirm it before I can activate Miiverse)
Mii (If sending QR code, enable sharing and copying on your Mii first.)

It looks like you can link NNID to your own Wii U (if you plan to pick one up later), but I haven't tested it on a different machine. You'll want to hang on to your NNID, password, and e-mail address if you want to do that.

After making our mayor drop the 20 cent transportation tax, after watching MS crumble to popular demand, I believe we can make this happen.

Lets do this!

It won't happen..not with piracy weeks away. Nintendo will tighten restrictions..not loosen them.

You'd be better off tweeting the manufacturers of the games you want and get them to release worldwide on the eshop.

Fight piracy by tightening restrictions. When has that ever worked? I doubt even Nintendo had an illusion it would be so. Fact is that you fight piracy by providing a superior service. Region locking is just one thing that will make people get devices that also allow piracy.

It was because of Miiverse that Earthbound is releasing overseas. We know Nintendo looks at Miiverse.

I was thinking, is there any way we can get Fallon to ask Reggie why he's the only one with a region-locked horse in this race?

You would have to contact Fallon...Which I think would be hard to do, especially about this subject.

You can try but I think we will have better luck next week at the Investor Meeting Nintendo has.

I agree. So someone living in Japan (Cheese?) has to buy Nintendo stocks and attend the next investor meeting and ask this question there!

I'm only half joking.

What does region free have to do with piracy?

I posted my comment. Can't link it, but it's the one with the drawing of all the portables.

Also, I swear, GameFAQ's boards are better than miiverse, which is something i'd thought i'd never say EVER.
