Persona is not a bone when the budget of those games far exceed any of the titles you have mentioned, its more like the meat.

they sure haven't shown it then. in the last five years they've made a spinoff and an update to persona 4, and remade older persona games without delivering a persona 5, while they've made:

devil survivor
strange journey
etrian odyssey iii
radiant historia
nora to toki no kobo
devil survivor 2
etrian odyssey iv
shin megami tensei iv
trauma team

and that's on top of remaking etrian odyssey i, the devil survivor games, and soul hackers.

i'm just saying that if their meat and potatoes is persona, they sure have a funny way of showing it.

Maybe if Tecmo got them they'd actually have an active American division again, whereas SE would definitely wipe it out and probably start neglecting to bring games over. Though I could Tecmo being dumb and wiping out the American division despite effectively not having one. Still, that's an area where I can actually be optimistic, especially as it'd undoubtedly do a lot of good for Europe.

I think you mean Last Bible and DemiKids.
Majin Tensei too I guess.

I always saw Devil Survivor as the Majin Tensei successor, but most people say who played MjT that those games are just only ok, and unoriginal, while Devil Survivor at least tries its own ideas.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

I kinda want Namco Bandai though. I know they don't actively destroy their IPs and they have a very decent European branch.

It doesn't sound like we're anywhere close to Atlus closing, or being sold off just yet. Bankruptcy is a scary word, but if its anything like American bankruptcy, they can come through it and emerge a stronger company.

Just for fun though.

Square Enix
Namco
Capcom
Nintendo

These companies would be smart to start putting out feelers, just in case things go badly.

Ideally someone outside of the video game industry would buy "Atlus", replace the Index management and continue the operation without interfering too much. It's a really solid business, so it'd be preferable if someone buys it who's not going to plan to reorganize and realign the whole company.

I don't think any of these companies are a good fit, since I can't imagine that any of those would allow Atlus to do its own thing. Not to mention that all of these have their own international branches, so what would happen to Atlus USA?

Philosophy wise I wouldn't be too upset over a Nintendo acquisition. I'm quite satisfied with the way Monolith seems to be managed nowadays and I think there's a good chance that Atlus would more or less continue as they are doing today. Since Atlus is quite hesitant to develop on more powerful platforms, I don't think it would be a huge loss to see them only on Wii U either. However, since Nintendo has absolutely no use for a 3rd party like Atlus USA, that's at the same time also the worst case scenario.

People need to know that Atlus hasn't been a company in years. Index fully assimilated Atlus a while back, Atlus is just a brand name for Index now.

Right. The issue wouldn't be buying Atlus. Atlus amounts to a name and a pretty logo. What you want are the IPs and the development staff.

Atlus is a word on the box. Index can take that to their grave. I don't care.

It is a mainline title. A sequel to Persona 4 with Persona characters sounds apart of Persona to me.

Ah, I was always under the assumption SMT was bigger in Japan. D:

If anything P4A is spin-off a game that bridges Persona 3 with Persona 4, it focuses more on P3 characters in P4 environment.

If they get the dev teams, but not the IP, and are forced to redo all their lore and get rid of almost 20 years of world and lore building, I am out. I do not want to play a "Megaten" game that has no Jack Frost or has a fake one, Jeraldo Freezing or some shit.

there is some subtle P1/2 stuff in there too

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

They don't? Do you know a different Namco? Because the Namco I'm thinking of would destroy them and have the shittiest devs cranking out games until they don't sell anymore.

I'm kinda curious about how this happened. Atlus *seemed* reasonably cautious and careful with their development strategies and budgeting. Was it another part of Index dragging it down? Or were they more reckless than they seemed?

If I was a betting man, assuming I had a clause that the bet is invalid if Index didn't get bought out: I would put money on GungHo attempting a takeover.

"persona is exclusive to sony consoles"
"here is a persona game that is not on a sony console"
"that doesn't' count."

P4A was developed by Arc Systemworks. It doesn't count. :p

this is so weird. don't they have development teams that were basically untouched? i thought index was this weird banking thing. how difficult would it be to just spin the developers that comprise atlus back into their own company again?

It's going to be difficult. Index has shuffled the developers into their corporate structure, so any spin-off of Atlus you'll need to surgically remove them from the rest of Index,

Yeah because nobody wants the Persona Team to work on something new like Catherine again.

Oh wait.

shit....... Atlus is favorite publisher too.

I hope that the creditors has some brain and decide to spin off the gaming arm into an independent company since they can make a lot more money that way without the bs.

Upper management by Index most likely.

god. id rather MS do it then

Yep, this.

Although I must say, for as much as people love to say, "Atlus didn't release any current-gen games this gen except for Catherine!", Nintendo buying them would make that trend permanent. Tragic irony there.

for real, what's the downside in the nintendo hypothetical? are some of ya'll still thinking their censorship policies are like the 80s or is this herp derp they'll make jack frost mario games or what

Nope.

Nope nope nope nope nope nope.

...so you'd rather they go to someone who can't fund them, or perhaps die as an alternative? i see you're crazy outside of yakuza threads as well man

god. id rather MS do it then

kyons you cannot be serious

Oh come on Dantis, you know what I mean. I don't want them to make what would basically be a Persona successor, if they made some awesome new IP's, I would be all in you dolt, but if they made Persona 5 without the Persona or the 5, that would be stupid.

Thanks for the responses guys. /lazy Yes, I do ninja edit my posts. >_>;

Anyways, I may have found a relevant link

So is the company going to be run by an interim trustee for now?

"To protect the depletion of the debtor's assets, and to facilitate the business reorganization of the debtor, the court allows the business to sell all or part of its business before the plan is confirmed."

So until the creditors can agree on the BK Plan (because this is where the attorneys for various creditors argue with each other), index has a chance to offload ATLUS? Unless the interim period is over. Given that this news is new, I'm guessing it's not ... But then again criminal behavior is involved ...

What if some non-gaming company buys them as their foray into the biz?

If they get sold, this is probably the most likely outcome, considering Index's nature.

Index' upper management were corrupt and did illegal stuff.
