I second this. Not realistic, but awesome as very few other racing games. The shift mechanic is great.

If you played Midtown Madness 2 as a kid, this game will bring back those memories. Will bring them back hard, and you'll be overwhelmed with nostalgia. Do yourself a favor and play Driver:SF.

Thirded. Driver: SF is criminally overlooked.

On September 12, Valve pops a dialogue box up asking for the user's shipping address on the account of everyone who's been a member since Sept. 12, 2003 and has at least the 250+ games badge, claiming it's for a steam 10 year anniversary gift. A week later, everyone who filled out that form has a beta version of the steambox arrive at their house with a copy of Half Life 3 pre-installed on it. A week after that, Valve releases Half Life 3 to the rest of steam.

I don't know if anyone has one here, but I'm thinking of picking up an Astro A40 headset as my Corsair HS1s broke WHEN I TOOK THEM OFF MY HEAD! (Sorry, still bitter about that.)

Anyway, I don't have a sound card and these are expensive, so should I invest in one? Or are they USB anyway? I don't know, I just hear people raving about them.

NO

Headsets are a horrible investment for PC audio.

What is your budget? What kind of music do you listen to?

Just got Iron Brigade, but GFWL says I'm offline so I can't play. Great.

GFWL has been consistently down lately.

Ooh this reminds me, the story of the game (yes it has one) has awesome writing, which really adds to the atmosphere as you use the "shift" mechanic... and I almost forgot to mention, the MUSIC selection is awesome in that game. So catchy and great for fun driving!

Mixed feelings about Big Picture Mode.

The software itself and how the 360 controller integrates into it is fantastic. Seriously easy to navigate interface, the best text entry on a controller ever, no ads, and being able to always access it by holding in the 360 guide button for 3 seconds is useful.

But BPM is seriously let down by little issues outside of its control. The main one is fucking launchers at the start of games that need a mouse click to proceed. Some games, like ones from Bethesda, Borderlands 2 and Stranger's Wrath, can be worked around by adding the main executable to Steam, or renaming files, or using command lines. Annoying, but fine after you put some work into it.

But there are games with no solution, like Rockstar games, some Capcom games, Prince of Persia and other Ubi games with UPlay shite, and now the Hotline Miami beta. Another annoying issue is text entry in games - you can bypass Skyrim's launcher for example, but 5 minutes into the game you are screwed when you need to enter in your name for the first time.

Additionally, i'm saddened at the amount of games that are simply lazy when it comes to controller implementation. Indie games are a main offender like VVVVVV and Lone Survivor. Their recommendation to just use Joy2Key, Xpadder or Pinnacle is lazy and adds another bit of software that I have to setup before I can click play. Games like BF3, TR: Anniversary and Silent Hill Homecoming with 360 pad support but no button prompts for it on QTEs is inexcusable. Why bother even having pad support if you don't go the whole way?

Some of these things are a minor annoyance I guess. It's not the end of the world - but requiring me to get up and go into my other room where the PC is located to use the keyboard and mouse for two seconds, or configure an additional bit of software, really undermines the "comfy couch" dream and makes console gaming all the more understandable. I wonder if having a second 360 controller bound to Xpadder to manage the mouse and clicking navigation only could work. Could colour code it too: white one for gaming, black one to solve the annoying tasks..

I've heard nothing but fantastic things about the A40s. I'm fairly confident I'll be picking them up; I'm just wondering if I need a new sound card to make the best out of them.

I'd prefer to have something with a mic, hence the A40s. And apparently they sound awesome, so all the better.

But my limit is probably ~$300, though I eagerly await all of the $350 and $400 recommendations because "t's just a bit more and they're soooooo much better."

PC gaming in a nutshell, haha.

Hey guys I need help with Far Cry 3...Now that I can crank up the settings with my new video card I noticed a weird shimmering with the shadows that is really bugging me. It's like if the shadows are vibrating... I tried all the different settings in game and I can't find a solution.

Anybody seen this before?

I captured a video of the effect. For some reason my fps are terrible in the video (I run the game at 60) but you can still see the issue.

I feel ya bro. I hate getting up because of lazy developers, but then i realize I'm not dying of starvation in a third-world country and then I just do it.

But seriously, then I got a wireless keyboard and mouse that sit by my side when I'm playing certain games from my couch, best purchase I ever made tbh, I'd consider it if I were you and sitting back in front of your TV is something you prefer.

Come on now you can't really blame the developers for implimenting an interface for PC, reknowned for it's userbases near complete devotion to the mouse and keyboard without the crazy foresight that Valve would, some time in the future, impliment an additional overlay that would make everything work like a console. Is it annoying that some things aren't directly compatible, yes it is, will they get fixed or will work arounds be found, possibly but you can't blame the developers on this at all.

The problem is that my PC is in the other room, under a desk. I wanted to do this so I can use my current kb+m for FPS and RTS games at the desk, and then run the controller enabled games into my comfy couch room.

I had thought of getting a wireless keyboard and mouse for the comfy couch room, but I have concerns over what sort of range to expect and whether the signal can get through the walls. My 360 pad can do it, but for some reason my current Logtech kb+m can't. If I could find one that guarantees good wireless performance, and doesn't break the bank, i'd consider it.

Really dislike the idea of paying £80 just because game developers are lazy dumb asses.

What's the best driving game on Steam? I've had a thirst for a few months now. I purchased Burnout Paradise last time it went on sale and it bores me to tears. I'd like something a bit more realistic.

- F1 2012
- Dirt 1 & 2
- Grid 1 & 2
- Euro Truck Sim 2

Most of them will be dirt cheap in the next sale as well.

If you want proper realism you'll have to look away from Steam. iRacing, Project Cars, rFactor are all worth looking at.

Comparatively in price to audio quality they aren't very good. If you have a $300 budget you can get some of the best headphones on the market.

Those headphones don't really justify a sound card by themselves. The output is where you always want to have the best part of the system, ie headphones, speakers.

If you've heard fantastic things about that headset its likely because that person hasn't experienced a quality pair of headphones.

Yeah, since I got my Logitech K400 comfy couch gaming become much easier. Still minor annoyances like the hassle to setup Xpadder, but I think with time the situation will only improve.

Mixed feelings about Big Picture Mode...

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005DKZTMG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

That is what I use and I never ever have to worry about those random points that require a mouse or keyboard. I love big picture mode thanks in large part to that. Only thing to note is I needed to get a usb extension cord so that I can put the receiver at a point where my keyboard picks it up on the other side of the apartment.

But I really would like for Steam to allow Xpadder type setup for games that offer no controller support at all, like how a lot of point and click adventures don't. Yeah I can just use Xpadder but it'd be nice to just have a custom profile on every game that automatically loads when you load the game.

I'm not talking about a random friend; I'm talking about numerous people and review sites around the web, including Tested.com's Will Smith.

Have you personally used them?

Bought $70 of SteamBux today, I'm locked and loaded!

Already spent $6.69 on Surgeon Simulator 2013, just in case it turns into some Potato Sack ARG for HL3.

They are a decent set of headphones, but the audio quality for the price isn't justifiable.

Especially considering what you can have for that price.

That's been there for a while, but the DRM part didn't used to be as specific, it'd often just say "non-Steam drm" or "third party drm".

That is the part I'm referring to.

If you have a smart phone there is an app that acts like a wireless keyboard and mouse. Thats what I use.

So you haven't used them, then?

Also, the $250 includes the Mixamp, which is apparently amazing.

If you just want the headset itself, it's $150.

I have tried them.

The Mixamp is good if you are a console gamer since you can use any headphone with your console. I have recommended the mix amp to people in the past who want good audio audio quality while playing on console.

Not if you are on PC though, since you can get a much better sound card for cheaper.

No headset will be able to beat a good pair of Senns, Audio Technicias, Grados, etc. I've gone mid-to-high-end headphone + desktop mic for years now and I'll never look back at headsets again.

My personal preference, but I'm with Grief.exe that for the money one can do far better.

Okay, so what headphones/sound card combo would you guys recommend for ~$300?

I'm not really blaming devs, i was being sarcastic, ie: the starving bit (refrencing first world problems)

looks nifty. and cheap! I'll def get this and replace my mouse with the touchpad when I only require mouse movement for menu selections and launchers. Thanks!

So guys, is Mortal Kombat still scheduled to come out next week? I preordered on GMG and it says it's a Steam key but Steam still has no mention of it whatsoever.

Happens all the time. What games show up on Steam early seems pretty random.
