Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

You have a 90 minute time-limit to complete the dungeons. Was it different in 1.0?

None of my groups went that way, and I'm glad for it. If it turns into GW2 again where people are just skipping everything, I'll be disappointed.

Also liked the Duty Finder feature. Looks as advertised. I just wish there was a cross-server search option as well and not just pure matchmaking. Maybe something they can add onto it later so I can play with friends on other servers.

iirc, you had an hour for dungeons in XIV 1.0, but everything was a speed run. You enter, buff up, run past all the enemies until you get to the first boss, then kill any close enemies that may have followed you. Then you kill the boss. Continue on, run away from every monster and then kill the boss at the end. That's how every dungeon I went with me, and it was boring as hell. The dungeons were too big and there were too many enemies to do it any other way with the 60 minute time limit (especially if you wiped once or twice on bosses). It was actually one of the reasons why I quit playing XIV 1.0 - it was just so boring doing that.

They could get around this issue by not having quite so many enemies, reducing the size of the dungeon somewhat, and NOT having enemies deaggro. If you aggro them, you HAVE to kill them as they not stop following you. In 1.0, the enemies deaggroed after a bit, so you could just keep running to avoid them.

Holy shit at that Lightning stuff... SE's obsession with Lightning is starting to get really creepy (hell, it was creepy a while ago). I can't believe they are doing that.

Sigh.. it's sad that I actually want to get her outfit in game, though...

But can only female characters wear it? They should add a male version if they are going to do that. lol

EDIT: Just saw the Snow outfit.

collaboration with lightning returns FFXIII

There will be a quest where you fight alongside lightning

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
I have no idea why but I'm fiending for this game.. if there's a collective of newish low lvl gafers I'd love to try some dungeons tomorrow. I'm probably gonna reroll a glad to tank cause fuck archer.

So when you first start you get the entry fee and then the standard afterwards?

From what I understand, Entry is different from Standard- look at the characters you can have per server. Entry allows you less characters, but is cheaper to pay for if you're paying per month.

Why do you think it would actually work that way with duty finder around?

I don't know if it will actually "work" or not. It's just an option if you want to play with same-server players. Given the amount of threads on the subject on the beta forums, I'm sure a lot of players will prefer finding same-server players first before using the Duty Finder.

Duty finder confirmed for tomorrow:

Thank you for your participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Regarding the implementation of the duty finder, the final QA testing on the system's stability has been completed and will be available at the start of the next beta test, which is on July 5th at 2:00a.m. (PDT) / 9:00 (GMT).

Please see here for the testing details.

Also along with the implementation of the duty finder, FFXIV Developers' Commentary "Duty Finder," a walkthrough video on the duty finder, has been released. Please take a look before you participate in the test.

We look forward to your active participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn!

haha nice! @6:07 they show a chocobo with a black mages hat on. I guess that means we can kinda customize our chocobos looks other then armor?

Can't wait to play again this weekend with the duty finder. I still need to decide what my final race is gonna be, lalafell's are awesome but they are so small the armor details aren't really visible compared to other races.

There will be many chocobo bardings to choose from. They don't affect stats as Yoshi said they didn't want everyone to use the same barding. You'll also be able to customize your magitek armour in some way.

I must say I'm very impressed with the duty finder. Can't wait to test it out. Not only will it make it so there's always something for you to work at and be getting on with (without the bottleneck of having to wait hours for your group), but also it'll help counter one of the problems with XI where there'd be a perceived notion that there was always 1 or 2 optimal party setup for each situation. This will get people experimenting with variations of setups and having to work with what they're given (or playing the hand you're dealt). I like this a lot. Mainly because it won't be wasting your time. Nice that you can craft and chat etc while waiting. "Join a party in progress" feature is fantastic too. That's priceless for both the replacement and the person who needs to leave. They are getting this spot on.

Negative :( There is supposed to be a benchmark released prior to the release date that has a character creation screen to play around in, but it isn't out yet.

Nope.

You will be able to create and save a character using the benchmark program prior to launch and possibly open beta, but not during this phase of the beta.

Ok then.

I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow when it starts up again.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why are people so concerned about leveling from 1 to 15 on secondary classes? I can get from 1 to 10 in an hour without doing any quests at all. Are people THAT against grinding on mobs these days?

I know I'm in the minority when I say that I really enjoyed the forced party system of FFXI, but I don't really understand people who are worried about getting a second or third class to 15 when it can be done with a couple of hours of random mob grinding (for the most part).

Yeah I dont get the concern either. I was getting 2-3.5k XP from fates I was running into while doing my hunting log. There are plenty of ways to get xp other than quests.

And hard-mode CoP was amazing. But this is 2013, and I'm too old to run through that kind of thing again, so I'm very happy for all these "modern" features.

Yeah, I don't think (or hope?) anyone enjoyed frantically looking for mats and crafting Seer gear for level capped stuff in ffxi.

Yes. Yes we did. We enjoyed all of CoP as frustrating it could be. When you finally beat the Ultima/Omega fight? Backflips were had.

The yelling and the backflips would have still been had considering how tense and difficult the Promyvion, Chasm fights, Airship fights and the Tenzen fight was.

The crafting and finding of low level gear however, was more of an annoyance though, not frustrating in a good way.

Outside of quests, FATEs, hunting log, Leves and Hests, I'm wondering something -- have people tried regular old FFXI-style party grinding on high level enemies? Is that still a viable EXP method in FF14?

It's still viable, in 1.x I used it to go from 44 to 50 on my Bard. And with the inclusion of chain exp still being in ARR, I'm sure it'll still be an option.

I love all the changes to the game, but I'd be lying if a part of me wasn't interested in just finding a sweet camp with five other random players and spending three hours chaining mobs for 15K/hr. Hideous pulling incidents and party-wipes inclusive.

We did it in 1.0 so I would assume it will be possible in 2.0.

It's not viable by design. Dungeon mobs give a ton more xp than random mobs. If killing stuff with a group is your thing, dugeons are completely spammable, though.

I don't think people are concerned with that specifically, but are using it as a test to see what leveling is like without quests.

Well, if they added something like talents that affected certain spells, I could understand their decision to make no enemy have an elemental weakness. But as it is now, they aren't doing that. Maybe they plan to do it in the future?

They don't have talents but they're building these rotations in such a way that every spell matters. For instance, if Titan was strong/immune against lightning spells then BLM output would take a huge hit and would encourage players not to bring them.

For those joining us on Ultros at launch, any recommendations for a guild website? We will probably use a paid hosting solution in the beginning unless someone wants to volunteer their services. Out of the most popular ones, I have used Enjin and Guild Launch. I prefer Guild Launch but am open to suggestions.

Open beta is rapidly approaching, so I'd like to go ahead and start organizing some things.

Is UltrosGAF planning to be just a Linkshell or Free Company? I'm assuming FC, but just to clarify.
