Really impressed with animations and lighting. A pitty there won´t be a PS4 version this year.
There's still something very modal about the animations I think but I've not played a ton of football games. Also really amateur of Konami showing first gameplay in this fashion. The lack of sound gives a really bad impression.

It's funny how Konami had, pretty much, seamless throw-ins a long time ago in ISS 98 on the N64.
It had seamless free kicks and corners too.

I hope this is as good as it looks.

Came in to post video, video already posted. It's cool.
Looks awesome.

movements look robotic, players look like they are dead or made of wax and basic combinations...

lol, no. Go play Yakuza 4.

lol every year, pes is "going to be good this year"
"looks way better than fifa" "pes is back!"

You could at least watch the videos, because it looks way better than FIFA 14.

Exactly. Cool Konami but ...this is all we asked for.

Facial animations is really not a core feature in a football game, it add to the graphical fidelity but it's not what was holding down PES. luckily they are also trying to improve the other aspects that actually matter.

In PES games is finding named rosters as easy as in NCAA football games (go to online share->download roster from trusted maker)?

the next gen version of FIFA (Ignite) or the PS3/360 FIFA?

I still think that both series (FIFA and PES) don't improve as fast as the other sport genre or even like other non sport genre of video games PES and FIFA developers are still way behind.

Next-gen version of FIFA was barely shown, so I can't say something like that, but it's leaps and bounds above and beyond current-gen FIFA 14.
As far as gameplay goes, word is that FIFA 14 is far more slow-paced and tactical than FIFA 13, so that's good in my book.

Looking like PES on 360 and FIFA on PS4/Xbox One for me, wish I had a PC that I could crank up the resolution and play this game with when it comes out.

same here...or at least PES for PS3 for me, and Fifa on PS4. And just like you I wish I had a power PC to ice out PES.

the animation is already there, man I'd MAX out everything I can and I bet it'd look as good as Fifa Next Gen. Only because of how good the animation and lighting already is for the engine. And maybe there would be other mods that can make it look even better.

I have a feeling though that Konami is going to release a special edition PES just in time for the World Cup next year though.

they did it for the World Cup in 2010, unfortunately it was only released in Japan.....but this time I think they'll release it overseas for Next Gen consoles.

This fucking game <3. Can't come out soon enough. I'd be fooled into thinking this was PES 2014 on a PS4 if I didn't know it wasn't.

What are people seeing that I'm not ?

The animations are slow and stunted , there is a weird delay between where you can tell a button was pressed and the ball reacting and the skill move animations are horrible.

It looks like it plays like every PES this gen.

Some of the points:
-Players move, turn and kick the ball more smoothly than ever;
-Game is a bit slower(about 10%) compared to PES 2013;
-Reason the game is slower is because of the control of the ball,the way the bodies turn, speed of passes. Konami obviously wanted to take a more realistic approach;
-Your teammates defensive A.I. is very improved;
-Opposition A.I. has some problems. Sometimes players go out of play with the ball and opposite goalkeepers don't react when the ball is in front of them. Konami promised the A.I. problems will be fixed;
-Collision detection in most instances works very well;
-Physical play is very intense;
-Few improvements are needed in the way players go down after a tackling;
-Passing is faster and smoother (previewer wanted it even faster);
-Teammates don't move a lot;
-Developers clearly wanted shooting to be arcade. Shooting sometimes feels automated and scoring seems a bit easy;
-Volley goals and spectacular goals in general are more often;
-Shooting and passing remind of the good old arcade versions of the game;
-The "heart" feature plays a role in Master League (for example if you make a big transfer morale will go up);
-Seems like PES will be much better in the graphic and animation department than FIFA;
-Only worry is the opposition A.I. (especially the keepers). Looks like its in an early stage;

My thoughts exactly. Doesn't look like anytging special in motion. In stills it looks better though.

Sounds great! I really liked PES2013 pre patch approach yet it was still plagued by its PS2 origin. Anyway, this modified fox engine seems capable of rendering authentic human faces and the gameplay looks fantastic. Shame theres no Next Gen version coming, so PC all the way.

They need to find a happy medium. E3 build almost nobody was able to score, newer build that the website got it's easier.
At least they have the feedback from the website I guess, hopefully they take it on board and tweak the shooting again to something in between the two.

That's what I like about having a community manager and a new UK division for PES Productions, the Japanese folks will get the feedback at least.

Between this and MGS5, I'm getting more and more impressed by the lighting capabilities of the Fox engine...can't wait to see the first nex-gen games running on it.

You jumping ship or getting both this year, bro? We need some people for PES online this year.

Oh I'm definitely gonna get both (first PES/WE since 2004 too). Not sure how it's gonna work online with you guys since I'm located in S.E.Asia? Thought it might be an issue that's why I didn't bother playing with any GAFers in FIFA (but I already had my own club formed with my buddies and a bunch of locals anyway...)

We'll see how servers work, but we should be able to play some matches ;)

PES2014 Community Day Impressions

Animations

I want to start on what I felt was the best improvement, and a reason why 2013 just doesn’t cut it anymore. Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 captures the natural, free-flowing feel that a real football match provides. The brand new set of animations play a massive part in this. Gone are the days where a run and a pass were two separate entities, now the pass flows naturally off the run made by the player, just as a shot will, or a cross. For example, in a match against our own Suffwan, I went 1-0 up with a delightful, dinked chip. The chip was one of the best finishes I have seen in a PES title, as it looked as natural as a real life game, think a Messi style finish. When I went back to PES2013, I could see a massive difference, I could really tell that each action you chose was separate from the last one. Another thing that was extremely impressive were the animations when receiving and taking the ball under control. You can’t take the ball under instant control everytime, it can happen but not on every occasion, sometimes players needed to take a few touches, even with their knee. Along with that, there are many many more new animations that help the game flow. PES ID will play a big part in animations for specific players, such as Robben, who had his own shooting, dribbling and passing animations. Tackling as well has had an overall, with tackles looking more natural and diverse.

Shooting

Shooting is the next section to get a load of new animations. Going back to the dinked chip, that is just one of many new striking options. One of the boys playing the game hit a beautiful out side of the boot finish to score, but a very different and more natural finish than what we have seen in past PES titles. Just like with keepers there are a large variety of new animations that are bound to please fans. One problem I did have with the shooting was that I seemed to either hit the bar/post a lot or come extremely close to the goal. There was never a time where I hit a shot far wide or far over, which to me while good for my chances of scoring, isn’t very realistic. However I must say I am excited to see what other animations we get in this department, as the ones I have seen so far are fantastic.

Game Speed & Strength

I believe an area of the game many fans will be pleased with is the tempo of matches. I found the tempo to be much more realistic to it’s real life counterparts, providing a more calculating match, where you can’t just bomb down the wings and out pace your opponents. The pace is much slower, however to address a concern of a member of our forums, this does not mean that players them selves are just slow. I found that using players who are fast, translates across to how they play, meaning that the slowed down tempo wouldn’t remove advantages that stats provide. Of course pace and speed still play a part in how you will play but so too will strength, and in a big way. In the games I played, I found the strength of players to be very accurate and this helped dictate games. For example if you use Yaya Toure, he will do very well when powering through opponents in real life, however use Giovinco and you will not be so successful. What is fantastic though is the fact that these smaller players don’t necessarily lose the ball as soon as they come up against a stronger opponent. Many times with Neymar I was able to hold off defenders to get my shot away, and the animations in replays I watched, really showed the struggle between the players fighting for the ball. This should be good news for those who picked up on the fact that players like Messi didn’t have a lot of strength in the past game despite being very difficult to get the ball off of.

Heart

Heart is a feature that has been mentioned a lot since it was first announced. I did notice that when I did a trick with Neymar that came off, the crowd made more noise and the team pushed on to try and build on it. However, I felt that in what I can only describe as the most understated way possible. Heart was there, but it didn’t stand out, I never at any point felt like heart was taking over. That is the way it should be. When you feel it takes over is when the fears of scripting becomes a reality. I am very happy to say that that was not the case and I only noticed it was even there when I really thought back to certain moments.

Overall

Overall I was impressed, seriously impressed. There are some issues, but thats why we were there. To play the game and feedback the issues we do have so Konami can try their best to iron them out before release. They already have addressed many concerns raised after E3 and it shows the understanding that Konami have got with the community. I am thoroughly looking forward to see what the next playable code at Gamescom brings before we all get the chance to trial the game with the inevitable demo. Konami are very confident they have prepared themselves very well for 2014, and after finally getting my chance with the game, I would be hard pressed to disagree.
