Nintendo Begins Advertising Wii U (Games) Again in Japan

Co-worker is selling his WiiU deluxe for £130 and after seeing this thread, I'm very tempted to pick it up. Looks like a good summer of games for the WiiU

I don't know what he said, but it doesn't change the facts. If they already changed the game to Wii U in 2010, the hardware would be in a very very very early stage. I doubt in 2010 the game had already jumped to Wii U.

You can plan and prototype on a computer without needing development kits. At the very latest, we know that development was on Wii U by E3 2011 so the shift likely happened earlier likely earlier and that development was 'well underway' in 2010.

We were talking about graphics achieved on Wii U hardware and in no way was Pikmin 3 in development 3 years in actual Wii U hardware despite of PR talk and prototypes.
There's a reason why everyone said the game showed its Wii side when it was revealed, because it spent a majority of its development time on Wii hardware.

Anyway, that first Pikmin commercial is unbearably cute.

So I guess for the last six months while it looked like Nintendo was just leaving Wii U to die on the vine, it really was intentional. They weren't going to spend the budget to promote a console with no games. Now that the six month blitz is almost here, Kyoto has risen.

I wonder if they plan the same type of marketing action in NA?

Of course they do. Fall and Christmas, especially this year will be huge for Nintendo.

We'll just have to agree to disagree unless the Iwata Asks provides some clarity on the issue.

Indeed, I think and hope they will keep up the push from now until the end of the FY with a game or two ever month, barring maybe January.

I imagine NA will receive it's push starting next month when Pikmin/NSLU is closer to retail.

The Luigi commercial played during Pokemon last night, for example. Good way to sucker in all those kids who just finished Luigi's Mansion and fell in love with the character ;)
It's also had over 30K views on Youtube, making it the 3rd most view commercial on Nintendo JP's offical channel, after the Karaoke commercial (800K+) and really close behind a commercial for DKCR3D (which has like ~300 more views).

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I think they basically said as much at their last IR report.

They basically decided it wasn't worth the money for an incremental rise in sales. On the other hand, the system was basically dormant for the better part of 6 months.

I'm excited for Nintendo to get the lead out. I don't watch any actual TV, just Netflix and Youtube stuff, but I'm hoping to see a bunch of new US Wii U commercials in-between Youtube vids starting this fall.

The only time I've ever seen a Wii U game commercial has been when it's posted here on Gaf!

I can't get over how cute the Pikmin commercial with Ueno Juri is. Makes me want the game, even though I don't really like Pikmin.

Wii u is sponsoring the tour de France coverage on ITV here in the uk. Scenes of family's playing the console with no actual game footage. My wife still unaware its a separate console and asked why they are playing it in an airport departure lounge. At least she won't be completely unaware of its existence now so I guess that's a step in the right direction for Nintendo uk.

Japanese adverts are 10 times more effective in my eyes.

The Nintendoland advert is the best I've seen so far. Perfectly capturing the essence of the game. I love the main theme. So catchy. The game deserves more sales. It's a blast in multiplayer.

Man, those grapes looked so good, that they literally made my mouth water!

I have a serious urge for grapes now...

yeah the grapes really popped out in the trailer. They look good because it looks like they are simulating sub surface scattering(internal light scattering), which is usually only used for humans(blood) in most games. Makes it look like they are glowing from light passing through them.

So the woman in those Pikmin commercials is some sort of celebrity, right? Nintendo seems to use that a lot in their Japanese advertising.

Was going to talk about the two new ads from lego. Dont know if theyre running on tv much, but theyve put those on the eshop today, together with the third pikmin ad. Its not on the same class as pikmin, but hey, at least theyre trying. Also, lego looks fun as hell on those ads. Promised to only get pikmin this month, so its a shame.

I know, it breaks my heart, too. It makes me want to protect them, though. ;)

Also, Lego City Undercover has it's own ad:

http://youtu.be/3au2PgpyC_Y

Releasing July 25th.

Japan Dates:
Pikmin 3 - July 13
Lego City Undercover - July 25
Yakuza 1+2 HD Collection - Aug 8th
The Wonderful 101 - Aug 24

Games actually coming out for the console finally. I hope this gives it a well needed big push. Adverting, Nintendo, advertising, it works.

If, and thats a big if, nintendo manage to get some stream, yakuza might even be a middle hit, breaking the 15k barrier. i hope so. Aint going to buy it cause my money is on 101, but would be nice to see that game having a good reception. For now, it all depends on this month.
