You know it never made sense to me how the Avengers battle was kept within a few city blocks considering the number of aliens in that battle, the size of the giant whale looking creatures and that there were only 6 Avengers, two could fly, and no one had super speed. There is also the issue with comparing Captain America with Superman and ignoring that Captain America is a trained military solider who has lead others into battle before. This is Superman: Day 1 or first several hours if we get right down to it.

I also took the civilians watching battle as not being afraid (sure they were) but more amazed and confused by what the hell was actually going on. That they were seeing these two beings do the things they do but with such ease. People keep complaining about the destruction but that is what this type of fight would result in. There should have been more of that in the Avengers final fight given that was an actual army invading NYC with massive weapons.

The aliens in the Avengers were also soft as hell. Hawkeye was just stabbing them with tiny ass arrows. Plus the Avengers aren't handcuffed with a "no killing" rule so they just slaughtered them by the hundreds.

Not to mention the convenient command ship shutdown moment. I loved the Avengers but the alien invasion was barely above saturday morning cartoon levels.

They were deliberately keeping the battle contained. When Cap is sending out orders, he tell Tony and Hawkeye (I think) to set up a perimeter and either kill anything that passes or circle them around back inside it.

Saw a dude at the grocery store the other day rocking a Zod shirt. Was kinda surprised.

Seen a LOT more Superman shirts than I normally do - but not Man of Steel, specifically.

No one's complaining about the destruction. People are complaining about the weak script making Supes look like an ass during the destruction.

Also the rebuttal that it's Superman's first day so he should be incompetent doesn't convince me at all. I would enjoy that type of story if it actually ended with him learning something and growing as a character. But when there are 0 references to him having learned anything at the end of the movie it's sadly not the story I got.

Surely he learns
that killing people sucks.

I complained about the destruction in Avengers and MoS both. Obviously it was worse in MoS, but I really think that mass destruction needs to GTFO of superhero movies. We've seen what happens in the real world when even a few skyscrapers fall, no need to amp up from that reality.

Guys, my city just got IMAX. Is this a good movie for my maiden view or should I wait for Pacific Rim?

Based on reviews, Pacific Rim is safer (higher rating s), but MoS is definitely good on IMAX as well. It just has much more divisive and polarizing opinions about it.

I'm with you. Man of Steel, far as I'm concerned, isn't a unique case but part of a larger problem. I guess that's why I have so much trouble really being at just this movie like everyone else seems to be. Cause I know this shit isn't going to come up when the next Marvel flick or the next Transformers or whatever decides the only way to create exciting action is to blow up half a fucking city.

What did you guys think about the Zod fight scene at the end? Let's ignore the complaints about the collateral damage. What did you think of the action

A good fight. Kinda reminiscent to Matrix. The part when Supe flies between building and the camera is positioned on his shoulders was breathtaking, we need a game liek that NOW

Matrix

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Seems like it will be on the Wal-Mart Blu-Ray combo.

That's from the walmart/vudu blu-ray pre-order deal, so yea I'm sure it's on the blu ray. It's already on Vudu.

I love that rumor if true.

His name was tossed around as Luthor before THIS movie got made.

I don't know if rando #47 from a messageboard somewhere is a great source, though.

There's also a dipshit over there who thinks the movie won't make $300 mil domestic - AFTER last weekend's numbers came in.

The only part I remember particularly standing out was when
Zod and Superman went into space.
The rest felt underwhelming in comparison to the choreography in
the Smallville fight
, although I'm glad the Zod fight didn't drag on like
the Smallville fight
did.

Man of Steel's soundwork is really painful with the big surround-sound IMAX setup; my ears feel like they were assaulted after the film.

I feel the film works better on a smaller screen.

What's the domestic total up to now?

It was amazing. I was in awe that we finally got a fight like this live action. The music topped it off. The moment we saw Zod and Clark fly around each other, fighting while flying mid-air was a dream come true for me. Fuck all the collateral damage complaints, we never got anything like this in Returns or any other Superhero movie. Best scene in the film for me.
