Castlevania Rebirth is the most tragically overlooked game in the series. Thanks to it being on WiiWare, and all that.

But yeah, it's actually a really well-made game that would've been right at home with the 16-bit 'Vanias.

I also dig Stage 4's music.
I'm sad that they're done with the ReBirth games, but at least it ended on a good note. I absolutely love the music style in those games, which was one of the big reasons I bought them and I'm glad I did because Castlevania ReBirth is fantastic.

Thank you for finding that. Been meaning to link that one but I decided I've posted enough and let others post more.

beautiful sure, but a chore to play through that swamp. Especially that screen you just posted going slow.
The swamp is one small part of the first chapter (out of 14); it's also not that bad and takes about 4-5 minutes to get through. Also, there is no slow-walking in this screenshot. Pan's forest is not part of the swamp.

Anyway, LoS is the best thing to happen to the series since SotN. Absolutely fantastic game.

Replaying SotN atm. Trying to hunt down the DS games and replay them. Also want to try to beat CotM since I never did.

P.S. MoF made me throw up.

How come you haven't included Circle Of The Moon for the GBA, you have the other 2!?

I still need to play Order of Ecclesia on the DS, but i heard its not as good as the other 2?

I wonder how many people crying for another IGA game have played the Classicvania titles. I'd like another "Rebirth" title like The Adventure Rebirth on WiiWare. There's so many Metroidvanias I'd be fine with them never returning to that style of game again. I recently beat Castlevania: The Adventure on Virtual Console and loved it even though it was a technical mess. The music was fantastic and the ending scene was awesome.

I played Castlevania since the original NES game, and I am crying for another IGA title.

here is my old copy as proof:

Nice thread work. I've been trying to get through CV3 for a while now. Might try and finish it over the next few weeks.

I'm also going through Lords of Shadow again and goddamn is it a beautiful game.

Awaiting LOS2 so hard.

Your in for a treat just finished this weekend, a strong ending and a nice setup for the 2nd game with a lot of WTF moments!!!!

Castlevania ReBirth's OST is amazing:

Stage 1
Stage 3

Lost Paintings(Unused track)
Battle Of The Holy (Another unused track)

The game itself is amazing too. Really recommend it to anyone who wants another classic styled Castlevania game.

The absolute best thing about Rebirth's soundtrack is that instead of lazily arranging stuff like Bloody Tears and Beginning, they opted for somewhat obscure tracks to arrange instead. They took the High Score theme from Haunted Castle of all things, and made it into an amazing stage theme. (My favorite one in the game, in fact.)

But yeah, Rebirth's definitely a must play for anyone wanting a neat little classicvania. I like that the game is structured more like CV1 and Bloodlines, which were sort of designed like arcade games, whereas CV3, Super Castlevania IV and Rondo were these huge epic single-player experiences.

I thought a community thread should list every game and not just skip to favorites?

Perhaps, but it seems not all of the games are getting featured in this thread outside of the complete list. Makes sense, considering threads have a character limit.

Probably just semantics but

I always considered the the times before rebirth(since he retained his memory and stuff). While Soma to be a reincarnation since he's basically a new person

But they specifically said it's a reincarnation every 100 years. Soma was an attempt to start over a new being/cycle.

Woah those unused tracks rule!

And yeah Castlevania ReBirth was great. Contra and Gradius ReBirth were pretty good too. It's really a shame they never came out on anything but Wiiware.

I don't think it's likely at all but I'd be so happy if they rereleased those games on Wii U's eShop (for you know what mode) and continue the ReBirth line. Rocket Knight Adventure ReBirth and a sequel to Castlevania ReBirth would make my day.

That you like Suikoden?

Yea, Konami needs to give M2 more chances to make some original games.

Oh, that was M2 that made those games? The same M2 that are doing those Sega 3D Classic ports now? Interesting...! Been wondering what the people behind the ReBirth series were up to lately.

Yea, M2 the genius port house. The Rebirth series was their attempt to make some new games in the same style as old ones, and I have to say, quality wise, they succeeded fantastically. (Well, Gradius wasn't as good as the other two, but still.)

Yeah, they should definitely continue the ReBirth games. Maybe even expand it more than one console so it'll actually have a chance of selling well.

A shame Salamander Rebirth never materialized.

I LOVE Castlevania :D

As you would've guessed, SoTN is on TOP of course.

As for LoS I used to think it was not good until I saw a full lets play on YouTube (edited to be more like a movie)....

The story turned out to be Epic!

I will get it on PC and will also get LoS2

But I really want a classical Castlevania, loved the ones on the DS, those were Amazing!

You've heard the opposite of the truth. Ecclesia is by far the best one, and I absolutely adored Portrait of Ruin.

I'm also one of the few that things that Dawn of Sorrow is probably the weakest GBA/DS Castlevania just above Harmony.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Would be nice. Realistically, though, there will never be another Rebirth game, and WiiWare will probably get shut down in a few years and nobody will be able to buy the existing Rebirth games ever again.

Have a nice day.

CotM is crap :p

OoE it's "different" how it is depends essentially if you like its approach to damage/attacks/stages if you don't bother them too much then you'll end up loving it
Personally I think it's the second best of the DS ones behind Dawn of Sorrow.

CV4 is pretty much a perfect game. Along with SotN.

Not sure if LoS is trying to expand what defines Castlevania, or just completely fails to understand what it is.

I think ReBirth has interesting and unique enemies, but I lost interest of it after a bit. I don't recall the game being bad, I think it just wasn't too captivating. I'd have to replay it.

I honestly wish they'd do a Super Castlevania IV remake.

Some of my favorite gaming memories revolve around Castlevania. Absolutely love the series. Also, reading this thread inspired me to finally buy Order of Ecclesia on Amazon.

FYI: Some games weren't included in the main list (although they were in the final list) because I wanted to relax for the day, I didn't pick favorites. I've never actually played Castlevania 64.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

pretty much this. I don't even mind the alternate continuity and rebooted story but the gameplay is just completely removed from what defines CV. It's a shame because I was hoping for something special after years of Castletroids but it just wasn't meant to be.

Agreed. And I'm a complete Castlevania freak.

Castlevania thread oh fuck yeah! :D

For all interested I'm making the LoS2 OT, I know the official list calls another member but I switched with him.. I'm certainly scared lol
And please, make this thread not a LoS sucks/rules one for 100 pages, I for one think any discussion about the subject has been done to death the last 5 years.

Great thread! Thanks for pulling it together.
I'm curious about the Japanese titles. I noticed they went from Akumajo Dracula to Castlevania and then back again. Anyone know why? I thought they were always Akumajo Dracula in Japan.

That's from Aria? God damn, now my interest is piqued.

My first Castlevania was Dawn of Sorrow and I loved it from the first minute. To me, that game was nuts. Quickly gained an interest in the series and now I have also beat Symphony of the Night and Portrait of Ruin. Both great games with Symphony being one of my all-time favorites.

I've also played a fair bit of Circle of the Moon, Order of Ecclesia and Harmony of Despair.
And I've only tried Super Castlevania IV and Dracula Chronicles X or whatever it was called on PSP.
