Howdy dowdy fowdy folks.

Since a bunch of us in J-Gaf either already have the game (ME) or will have it tomorrow, I figure it'd be nice to have a place to discuss the game ahead of the NA OT which'll be out a little ways from now.

I've only played through the tutorial dungeon and just got my guild membership, but the whole thing seems really polished thus far. Vanillaware games tend to look pretty but lack real gameplay depth, but given the genre they're running with here, I think this could turn out to be their most fun game.

I'm maining the Elf, and thus far the combo system is pretty cool. The whole thing feels a helluva lot like Shadow over Mystara in terms of controls, the way items look on the ground etc.

Hopefully it holds up over time.

Just finished Muramasa a few days ago. And still have to wait till VG+ sends it and arrives home, which usually takes a week. So I'll be playing this by August 15th

Cool. How's the art book? That's the main reason I pre-ordered.

Edit: Is the art book hardback? I thought it was supposed to be paperback. That's a nice upgrade.

I believe that the Amazon and Fighter are the only two classes that have the ability to block attacks, while every class has an evade technique. But i'm not sure about parrying.

Good thread! Hope the game turn out to be good, I'm still on the fence about buying it day 1 or waiting for a price cut since I might solo it. But since I am JapanGAF, maybe if I get it now we can play online and party up! Vita version does both online and ad-hoc, right?

EDIT: I see from elsewhere that the text is Japanese, but the voices can be changed to English. I guess I'll wait -it's silly to import the game with the U.S. release so close anyway- but if there had been a larger release gap I would have just played it in Japanese.

You can start playing from the getgo. I think only Battle mode (pvp) needs to be unlocked.

Well, the art book is still listed as a pre-order bonus on Gamestop's website, so I don't see why you wouldn't get it if pre-ordering.
