Euro Truck Sim 2 |OT| - it's like Elite, but in a big rig and in Europe

Last night I got my first "Excellent" delivery since using the wheel. Feels good, man.

In hindsight, I feel like I should have adjusted the sensitivity on the steering when I was using a controller. I find it so much easier to whip the wheel around in certain situations, especially when parking.

For the record, I couldn't decide between Burt Reynold's Bandit and Jack Burton so I just chose Burt and named him Burt Burton.

As a level 26 Sye d'Burns sits in Bern contemplating retirement, Burt Burton in Zurich has just reached level 11. I wouldn't say I'm playing smarter but I think I'm playing better, or at least in a more realistic manner. The last go round, I focused heavily on getting my long haul maxxed out early and getting all points in the map discovered while strategically locating my garages across the map. Zurich typically has a lot of time sensitive deliveries so I dropped my first two points into Just In Time. I've been distributing points more suited to the needs of my environs and staying much closer to home on the map, with only three points invested distance.

It's been an entirely different experience. Allotted time permitting, I've been trying to hit some of those B roads, particularly in Switzerland and Italy that I bypassed for expediency's sake with my other character. The trips are typically much shorter, topping out around 8 hours or so. It's been much less demanding and even more relaxing in its own way.

Ultimately, I'm just throwing up even more artificial barriers to deepen the experience as, I've come to believe, for me, that I didn't go far enough in my previous game. My one complaint with the game is that it's just too easy to get on top of the money and ride the wave to success.

With my other character, if I invested earnestly rather than sitting on the money, I could've been buying new garage every 2-3 days. I think this time, I'm going to try expanding regionally as opposed to a pan-European level. Maybe, instead of throwing my first garage in Berlin or Manchester, I'll put it in Italy or Austria. If nothing else, I guess I'll conquer Europe in a more orderly fashion.

Nice!

I've been using a 360 controller and I have the sensitivity on steering is just about maxxed out with a minimal dead zone. It works well for driving but I'd imagine that it's an acquired taste. If I were going at speed, I'd surely flip the truck if I jerked the stick rather than gently nudge it.

Nice. My Xbox wheel is screwed up so I started playing with a controller and its jarring how much different it is. It's not so bad when you are cuising down the highway but around town the steering is sooooooooo slow its unbearable. I was spoiled with the wheel, whipping the wheel around while at low speeds especially while parking is so much easier than using the analog sticks. I think I need to crank the sensitivity up higher but it gets so touchy at speed, I just need to get used to it.
Or buy a g27 :)

New expansion pack announced:

Going East!
After a long development time, finally the first Euro Truck Simulator 2 add-on is undergoing final beta testing. Some online stores have already revealed the final name of the upcoming add-on, but this is the first time we are officially announcing it here - the first DLC's name will be:

Euro Truck Simulator 2 - Going East!

We think that the new part of Europe built for this add-on looks even better then anything we have created before. You can take a look at a few countryside places from Poland, on routes between Lublin, Łódź, Warszawa and Ostrava. We'll be taking a lot more screenshots during testing now to keep you entertained.

Here's a design map of the Eastern European DLC...

I assume it's perfectly normal to have pedestrians ticked in the options menu and not see a living soul on your travels?

And gulp at that expansion. I wonder if you could deactivate the map mod, save the game and it save it as a normal file, and then keep that save safe for the official expansion. I'm loving the game, but really don't want to start from scratch again.

I've disabled automatic updating of ETS2 in Steam just in case it screws up the map mod, I guess.

What would I have to do to keep my progress while actually being able to use the DLC and the map mod?

Dice

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
I paid $4 for it and am considering the $10 for Extreme Trucker 2.

I wonder if you could do an ENB for it.

Any packs to improve graphics? It looks terrible on my laptop and my laptop isn't HORRIBLE.

There's texture scaling if you don't know about it. Go to graphical settings and set the scaling to higher than what it is. It should allow for higher graphic fidelity with the higher the scaling.

Looks very nice, but could still be a bit narrower and more mountainous in my opinion. That doesn't do justice to some of the roads I saw in Norway ;)

Will that be compatible with other map mods?

I don't see why this game has any appeal..

you drive big rigs.. in yurop

I don't think it's worth 39.99 or whatever the original price was, but at 9.99 it's worth it. Pretty relaxing way to end the day (and I hate driving usually).

Wish Greece, Spain and Portugal got some love. They're in Europe too.

True, but more may not be shown, and in any case it will fill the narrow road gap until SCS does an official one.

Holy crap, the game becomes so good when you have your own business. The needing to resting is a nice touch. I must say, it find playing with the keyboard much easier than the gamepad.

Same here. KB/Mouse seems excellent considering how non-twitchy the game is.

My Oculus Rift arrives today, and now all I need is the Euro-Truck beta that includes the compatibility!!!

I couldn't park if I had a gun pointed to my head with a gamepad. With KB/m, piece of cake.

Lucky mofo. Would love to play this with the rift. Post impressions whenever you have a chance.

So, I checked out the demo of this, for no other reason than to verify my uninformed opinion that this was the dumbest thing to ever happen. I loaded it up, called everything I saw stupid, and begrudgingly picked a truck and started the game.

Then I started playing.

I have a weird amount of trouble admitting this, but I actually really enjoyed what I played. It's incredibly relaxing and laid back. Looking both ways before I pull out into a street, actually stopping at stop lights, checking my blind spots. It sounds so mundane and, well, stupid, but I really got into it on a level that I never would have suspected. I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I think I'll purchase it.

What is happening? Is this real life?!
