STEAM Announcements & Updates 2013 IV - Christmas in July is over, back to real life

You can complete all the settlements in the game. The water tower I mentioned earlier isn't tied to any of them since it's stuck in limbo in a settlement that was never added to the game world but was left in the in-game stats. But, yeah, the cities are awful for the simple fact that you're always left running around for half an hour trying to find something you've missed. A helicopter is handy for finding any water towers that may be perched on rooftops.

Oh I didn't knew that, so I need to search more and see if I can find the missing "stuff"

Nice. Spelunky can wait a few weeks.

Hopefully Spelunky is launching around the same date for the VIta as well, imagine it is?

Also, I hate when you restart your computer and steam opens that it has what your friends are playing pop up in the lower right hand corner, can't even get into the hidden icon menu to pull steam's client up until I click them all away.

Im all for irrational spending but buying all the games on 8/8 is not very smart. Buy one and see if you can beat that before the others get a discount.

Spelunky's daily challenges make it seem like that game will have the most hours/dollar.
Gonna get Gucamelee when it gets a discount to play the included DLC.
Not sure at all about Papers, Please.

I don't know, Papers Please feels like a game to me that should be played in autumn or winter. I have that same feeling with Dark Souls and Skyrim, both of which I'm going to buy during the winter sale.

Just like I still want to play KOTOR2 this summer because I played KOTOR in the summer and Fallout feels like a summer game to me because I played F3 and NV during the summer break. Am I alone with this seasonl preference? For instance Dark Souls and Papers Please are winter games because they seems so depressing and Skyrim because large chunks of it are in snowy areas.

I'll grab Papers, Please at some point, heard a lot of good things about it. Although what does this version add over the current one?

Spelunky I'll grab on the vita and I already have Guacamelee for Vita/PS3. Pikmin 3 comes out in 3 days and Dragon's Crown in 5 so we shall see how it works out. This month has way too much coming out.

I turned that off a long time ago. If I want so see what people are playing I just look at the friends list.

There's an unconfirmed theory regarding the water tower on the JC wikia that you could try testing, Jase. Apparently there's one in Panau City that doesn't count towards the 100% completion of the location but does count for the water tower number. I don't know how likely this is on the PC version but maybe it's worth a shot since you already completed the settlements (unless you've already checked those coordinates before!).

  • I had completed panau city docks district 100% and I looked around and saw a water tower in the same area that did contribute to the total 220. Strange...~ DarkIce582
  • I found 222 in the game there is this one on a deserted island that completes the water towers and there is one that is glitchy in Panau City residential district... ~ The one who knows basically everything about Just Cause 2 and who has completed the game 99.98%.
http://justcause.wikia.com/wiki/Just_Cause_2_100%_completion_list

And in the Talk section of that page, with coordinates:

I will begin by saying that this water tower was my 220th, so I am not certain that this water tower is the supposedly missing one. But I do know that, had I not stumbled across it when I did, I would have never, ever found it. Where was it? In the heart of Panau City - Residential District (X: 3314, Y: 15142). Long after completing that location to 100% (green check included), I was messing around in the city. While traversing the rooftops, I literally bumped into a small water tower, completely untouched! Apparently, Panau City - Residential District has one fewer water tower contained in its list of sabotages required for location completion than there really are in the city limits. I don't know if it's just this specific water tower, or if missing any one water tower in the area won't keep you from getting that green check, but this made me suspicious. Are there any other locations that could be completed with a sabotage or resource item still remaining in the area?
After destroying that water tower, I was at 99.64% Completion. At the time of this post, over two months after the water tower, I was at 99.66% Completion. So I still have a lot more to do, about 20 to 30 things, actually. Another water tower, just sitting there in plain sight along a road I never before travelled, still could be one of those things.

Note: I was playing the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

Great to see another fellow GAFfer thinking like this. I also do have some games I play on Winter because they have a great feeling when playing in the cold winter days while raining outside. Feels good.

btw, if anyone bought Frozen Synapse yesterday and is feeling a tiny bit confused and would like some help or just to play friendly games, let me know! My name's Accent in the game as well.
The offer also stands for non-beginners obviously.

Apparently there is no OT? i'd make one but i'm junior

That's less than I thought.

It is interesting because of how low that number is. We have far and away more posts than the people below us.
Even Salsa, who has the least posts of the three, has over 100 more posts than the one in 4th place, which is Rionnaa and yourself in 5th.

We just have a large variety of posters, and lots of awesome new people we picked up after the summer sale.

Couldn't you just have Steam in your start menu and open it there? That's what I do.

I might take you up on that soon-ish. I get the game but I'm not great at it.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Anyone have any thoughts on Take On Mars? Looks like my kind of game, but I haven't played any of Bohemia's other offerings.

Thanks, good timing I suppose!

Is there a subscriber email or something of the sort? But yay, what timing. Hopefully I can start playing Metro with physx on again.

I think your Control Panel PhysX is set to CPU instead of GPU. That's the only issue I'm aware of at this time.

Is anyone else having issues with their 360 controller in BPM? Last night I just noticed that the guide button doesn't start BPM, and when I am in BPM, the analog sticks don't work. A/B, d-pad and the L/R triggers work fine. Controller is also working fine in all games.

Did a little digging and it seems there is a known problem in both the latest beta and non-beta update. Anyone know of any workarounds until Valve decides to fix this?

It might have switched when I updated to 320.49, was getting nearly constant 60 FPS with 8 before upgrading to 8.1 beta. Just tried with the new drivers and the issue remains so hopefully that is the case.

Believe one of the devs replied to me on the steam forums that the physx thing was a known issue with the current drives on 8.1. They could have misunderstood my issue though.

Installed Dark Souls, used default DSFix settings. Crashes after the initial unskippable cutscene every. single. time. Fuck this broken-ass piece of shit game.

Nope, just switched to use 670 for the physx(it was on auto-select) and the game still chugs to around 8-24 FPS in sections involving physx. As I said before, when I first played the game I got a nearly constant 60 FPS outside of towns with physx and everything but SSAA on. I'll try restarting but I'm not hopeful :/

Can anyone else using Windows 8.1 start up Metro Last Light, make sure Advanced Physx is on, and play the chapter "The Crossing" and tell me what their framerate is? Obviously having a similar card (GTX670/80) would help.

Edit: Just tested Metro 2033 and it runs at the same ~40 FPS that it always has at max. Although the cursor issue that Last Light has(mouse cursor doesn't work in menus on 8.1) is replicated. Really just wanted to play Last Light again and the dlc :/

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Lovely to see Papers Please is known throughout GAF (or at least the Steam thread) now.

Interesting. I'll look into that later today. I've started using the map viewer to chase down the randomly-scattered collectables and sabotage structures that are located outside of settlements, so even if I have destroyed that tower, I should manage to hit 100% completion if it is indeed considered in the tally.

Besides trying to launch without DSfix try verifying your files in steam just to be sure. RMB > properties > local files > verify.
