This thread is making a 10,000 times bigger deal of it than the actual podcast does. They present it as "tweaking some knobs" and then quickly move on. It takes 15 seconds.

Microsoft continues to scramble to get their house in order. I really wonder what kind of launch these guys are going to brew up. Anyone buying one of these things at launch really needs their head examined, especially with Microsoft's track record.

I wonder if the terraflop number they gave earlier used the 800MHz original clock, or the 853MHz clock they probably knew they were going to boost it to later? Or perhaps they didn't know they would do it in the months before, and just found they had excessive thermal headroom.

Either way, it's 6.5%, a nice boost but not exactly game changing.

This is the first official confirmation of their power. They've mentioned how many shader cores they had and we always assumed they were at 800mhz.
Now they official confirmed the clock rate.

EDIT: By the way, this means the eSRAM is at 109.18 GB/s.

Small boost, but better than nothing.

"Stop trying to turn this into a big deal!"
"Stop trying to undercut this improvement!"

The argument isn't about the numbers, it's what they mean.

The feel of 53mhz.

You are a gentlemen and a scholar. Could you recommend a good head examiner? I'm getting a XboxOne?

Could you also elaborate on Microsoft's track record? Besides RROD?

My head and my wallet are perfectly fine

My first computer ran at 25 MHz, and I could run Space Quest IV from it's single speed CD-ROM drive, but it was pretty choppy at times. This is an increase of MORE THAN TWICE my old Packard Bell! Technology Boner Activate!!

Regardless of the sick awesome console warz waging in this thread, this is good news I guess. I'll take whatever MS can give to raise the bottom line, even if it's tiny.

Agreed. I'm not buying an XBO until maybe next XMas, but in the meantime, any extra power they can squeak out will only make it better when I do get one.

Funny to see microsoft acting like this. Feels like they rushed things a bit...

I don't get that feeling. It feels more like they're just finally nailing everything down for production.

Uh, ok.

Sony has been doing that for the last 6 or 7 years. Just not for multi-plat titles.

Hopefully Sony shifts over to a more traditional means of dedicated servers moving forward:

Not sure if they already have.

Oh my God, you must need to wear industrial strength headphones in that room to prevent your eardrums from being blown out.

Did they really "announce" it though? lol. Just seems like a little tidbit to me. They're making use of the huge box by squeezing every bit possible out of their graphics processor. Good shit.

I wonder if Sony would be able to do the same, or if the size of the PS4 prevents that.

MAG, TLoU, Motorstorm, Warhawk, UT3, Killzone, among others.

Mostly first-party though.

Yeah, Sony has been providing dedicated servers for most of their first party games. Not all of them. I didn't think TLOU had them. I was under the impression it used peer to peer but I wouldn't know as I don't have the game yet.

Um, yeah, they only like decided to do this last week.

Since their chip doesn't have embedded ram (which is typically hot) they SHOULD be able to.

Will they? Probably not. It's not necessary on their part.

A 6.6% increase is not going to make a big difference, but the more interesting part for me is that MS is releasing a podcast to tell us about it. This is all part of the marketing and presentation and since Mattrick left it has been MUCH better. It's clear that they've identified their weak points and then thought about what information they needed to put out there to win people around. Personally I don't think they've made any big system or policy changes apart from scrapping the DRM, it's all been a question of presentation. But they're definitely managing to turn things around.

I concur 100%
