Can't wait to see what Lionhead is working on. Hopefully it'll be mind blowing especially now that Molyneux is gone.

Maybe when saying it. XBO and XB1 are faster to type. :p

I don't like XBO. Always looks like someone was trying to spell XBOX but they keep for getting the last X.

Hence why using Xbone is awesome. You know exactly what it's referring to. Not sure why people are against using it unless using approved terms tickles their jollies (me and my PLAYSTATION(R)3 Computer Entertainment System).

Both companies have unannounced games that they'll be unveiling at Gamescom. Some of them might be available near launch, that's why I'm excited.

I think we already know about the games that are coming out in the first few months after the console launches. These companies are competing for pre-orders right now, and they would have fired any big guns they had at E3, as that is when everyone is watching.

If we see any games unveiled at Gamescom, I believe they'll be later Q2 2014 releases and later.

I think xbone is hilarious in real conversations with people. It belittles all the silly console warriors out there who actually say it with passion.

Even if this makes the xbox as powerful or even more powerful then the ps4, there is no chance I will give these drm maniacs my money.

I dig what you're putting out.

"Both companies" refers to the two big players in the same business who are trying to win the next gen console war.

Two players in the same room could often play together on many beloved games from the past.

Player two in the most loved two player game of all time (Super Mario Bros.) had to play as Luigi.

Luigi worked as a plumber, where he had to replace pipes and turn valves.

Valve is a popular games developer, know for games such as the Half-Life series.

Luigi wears green overalls.

Green is the color of Xbox.

Green is also the color of money.

Ipso facto, Microsoft paid Valve large amounts of green to make Half-Life 3 Xbone exclusive!

Just call me Detective GAF.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

You almost had me, but the you went to SMB. That should read SMB3!

Could someone tell me how this update is going to effect the performance of Xbox One as compared to the PS4...

Regarding the discussion about the "Xbone" nickname, I used to use it as well, but said in a thread somewhere that I would stop doing it if MS would stop with their DRM bullshit, and I have honored that promise. I still find it hilarious though, and the fact that it really seems to piss some people off, makes me tempted to use it again. But a promise is a promise.

Instead I type XBO or just Xbox.

I switch back and forth between XBone and X1. It also puzzles me that some people are actually feeling offended by what how we refer to a plastic box with circuitry.

I think we should be more excited for the new direct x 11 driver that cuts out all the bloated stuff and is streamlined for the one.

Why? That's what every closed hardware platform should have. That's what the 360 had, the Vita, the PS3, the PS4, the Wii, the WiiU... A graphics driver in a console not being weighed down by a bunch of legacy PC cruft isn't an innovation. It's the status quo in this industry.

Negligibly.
Six or seven more upgrades like this and Microsoft will have themselves a PS4.
It will have a very small impact if noticeable at all. It will definitely improve stability of X1 titles.
If going by how performance increaces by overclocking desktop GPUs, not much.
Despite this, I foresee it becoming something of a PR line: "We've got an 853 MHz graphics processor."

Like the billions of transistors. A mass market audience probably still looks at clockspeed by itself and thinks it's some sort of metric of performance.

If MS PR attempts to push this knowing that virtually every multi-platform game will look and/or run better on their competitors platform then they will be inviting unwanted performance comparisons upon themselves that they will have no chance in hell of winning.

Much better for MS PR to focus on exclusive content and XBL features like "clowd powa!"

I don't think too many at all will be fooled by meaningless spec numbers when post-launch the games will speak for themselves.

Maybe Sony will bump up their GPU for 106 mhz and announce it on Gamescon

Very unlikely considering their position.

If anything I would think it better to see a clockspeed increase in the CPU cores than a meaningless minor GPU clockspeed increase.

I know one guy on B3D talked about Sony's CPU running at 2GHz for a while. Dunno If that was since debunked however? Neither Sony or MS have announced CPU clockspeeds afaik right?

Do it, call it the Xbone. I can't believe some people are actually sensitive about it. That's the best reason to use it again.

Xbone.

Xbone.

Yep, it's still funny.

they seem to be on the good way and properly scared .... now they just need to :

- cut the price
- lose the evil camera
- convince me that their overclocked hardware will not melt down like the 360

If it were to overheat like the 360, it wouldn't be due to those 53MHz extra.

of course, but a last minute overclock (although rather limited actually) might affect the reliability of the hardware, depending on how much extra "cooling capacity" their cooler had.

Let's just say that with their track record in hardware reliability ..... a last minute overclock seems like potentially not the best idea. Hopefully, the lesson from the 360 was learned.

I laughed at how my local news website put this: "Microsoft changing system speccs, even before it's out".

Yeah, because they would totally do that post-launch.

It also puzzles me that some people are actually feeling offended by what how we refer to a plastic box with circuitry.

The emotional link you see in forums like these in general, not talking just about the name, is not so puzzling if you start think about the psychology behind it.

That seemingly strong emotional link to a plastic box is usually only established in the moment. What is pure uncomplicated joy f.ex. playing a game at home (or the feeling of anticipating something positive) might be more emotionally rooted once you are "forced" to form coherent articulated thoughts about it in the context of a discussion in a forum. Once you start that process, or expose your personal preference, it becomes more or less an emotional investment. And that personal investment is something people naturally tend to "protect" and prevent other people from trampling on. A defensive mechanism that would not necessarily be there otherwise.

Hence why the classic forum-trolling is easier to do than to receive. Opposed to a formed opinion trolling has almost no investment, no risk, but high return in form of some sort of power over other people's feelings.

TLDR; Very few people on gaf have overly strong emotional link to their boxes outside this forum. It may sometimes seem like so because people invest thoughts into personal opinions and naturally don't always like when they are being challenged - or trolled.

Sony have quoted 1.84TF so yes they have stated the GPU speed.

The Xbone "nickname" seems deliberately offensive. Would people be up in arms if others were calling the PS3 or PS4 a derogatory name?

Did Sony ever state how much of the CPU/GPU would be reserved for multitasking or other OS tasks? The RAM reservation came as a shock to some people, is it going to be another shock to learn PS4 is also reserving 5-10% of the CPU or GPU?

I agree with most other posters that Xbox One still isn't something I'd want to buy. They should offer a kinect-less model for $100 less, at the very least. Most people won't even look at Xbox One given the competition at the moment.

Indeed. If anything it is a little concerning that they are just now getting to that point with their drivers. That must be one of the reasons we were hearing rumors about the PS4's dev software being more mature.

That does not matter unless for some crazy reason the PS4 reserves a lot of GPU power, both the 1.3TF number for the XB1 and the 1.8Tf number for the PS4 are before what ever the OS wants is taken into account.

Had hoped on a 100mhz increase but whatever every little things count.
Hope they will disclose everything at GamesCom hardware and the indie program.
