Source 2 and Left 4 Dead 3 accidentally confirmed by Valve tour group of dev floor

So are any of these features you mentioned a reality for Source 2? Has Gabe mentioned these as a shoe in for their next engine or is this your wishful thinking?

No, as I said these are what I'm hoping (praying) for, they're source 1 features. They are the basic requirements for having a solid foundation to make an fps game. (can't use vsync because of input lag, NEED 1:1 lagless mouse controls, NEED good netcode, can't have uneven frametimes in fps games )
Valve are competent so I'll either be immensely relieved or endlessly dissapointed and disillusioned come source 2 release.

I really don't think I can deal with it if they cock it up. Id' feel like the guy in zombieland when he finds out there isn't a single twinkie left in the world.

It's going to be F2P. It's going to have hats and weapon skins. It's going to have a ranking/level up system.

Psychos will drop $100s on it and propagate "good" F2P games, and yeah, it'll probably be pretty fun.

LEFT and DEAD have four letters each, ok. Sound familiar? That's because two other words do too. HALF and LIFE. Using simple replacement, we change LEFT 4 DEAD 3 to HALF 4 LIFE 3. Now, if we take the 4 and move it - we get HALF LIFE 3&4. So clearly Valve's next two games are Half Life 3 and Half Life 4.

or it could be half life 34!!!!! mind blown.gif

Shocker, more multiplayer from Valve with no sign of any single-player. I bet it will be F2P with hat-based economy as well.

YES!!

This makes my day. I play the hell out of L4D2 on a regular basis, but man, I sure would love me some next gen L4D with new characters and all new maps.

Doubt it'll be F2P. Possibly discounted like CSGO, but I can't see them making it completely F2P at launch.

Eventually? Probably.

As long as Left 4 Dead 3 is more like the original than part 2, then I am all for it! I preferred the cast of the original game than the second.

Me? Remember, by the time this gets released (I'm assuming holiday 2014) it will have been five years since L4D2.

Holy shit. It's been that long. It seemed like yesterday when people were angry it took 'em a short time to make the second one.

I'd definitely be down for L4D3. I haven't tried out the new Mutation system in L4D2 to see how robust it is but the sentiment makes me excited for 3.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that. I think Valve realised that stuff like hats work best when the game doesn't take itself too seriously.

If you told me back in 2007 that the first game Valve would release with a "3" in it was Left 4 Dead I would have called you a liar.

Funny how things change...might be cool I guess. I hope it's more like the original.

As mentioned, this was heavily hinted at in the email leak.

I'm still excited though. Really enjoyed L4D2. Hopefully I can get more friends into 3.

Oh man, that'd be awesome.

Also I can't wait to see the buttrage that'll inevitably come from this if it's true.

Heh, it's gotta be an intentional leak. I'd imagine most studios use code words instead of the title's actual name.

Now to finish the thread and see if it's debunked or not.

Since it's Valve, knowing the sequel to a popular game is being made doesn't mean much. We could (will) probably wait years for it.

Yep, its been long enough. Bring on the sequel!

Dynamic levels and events, challenges and a long term progression system pretty please (even if purely cosmetic).

Imagine an incomplete version of HL3 leaked again like HL2 did. That would be epic.

I got my grubby little paws on that on the day it was leaked, a day later valve lawyers purged the internet of it. Never thought files/info could just up n dissapear, not on the internet, but valve made it happen.

It was glorious: no AI , having to load maps through the console, almost all scripts missing, many sounds missing, half the levels still greyboxed.
But to get to play around with the havoc physics early was magical, it was a special moment in vidyagames when environments stopped being static.

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
Some thoughts:

If it's their first Source 2 engine title, and it turns out to be free to play, I wonder if it won't be their new experimentation platform to replace TF2.

On the other hand, they've mostly used TF2 to test economic ideas so they could just keep using TF2 for that and like others have said have L4D3 be like CS:GO; a discounted pay to play with cosmetics.

It could also just be another Source 1 engine game, but I'm not really sure why they'd do that and what trails they'd be blazing by going that route. Presumably there would be some unique gameplay or economic hook that would justify it.

As much as I really love L4D, I feel like the current games are sufficient enough. For the time being at least. It's similar to how the near perfection of Portal 2 and Global Offensive have left me completely satisfied with those series. Bring on something completely new, like they did with DOTA2. Even Half-life 3 can wait.

I also trust Valve know exactly what they are doing with the timing of Source 2. People might say it's been a long time coming and complaining that Source has been super dated for years. But I imagine that due to all the data they collect on Steam about user's specs etc, that they know exactly what level of quality to target and how much scalability it will need for maximum userbase coverage. No point going balls out and having another Crysis on our hands.

Valve just lets tour people in. Friends of employees, people like this etc. You don't need a badge (I didn't at least) or talk to anyone. Their policy is basically to be cool about it. Last year someone took pictures of some unused concept art and got "in trouble". Hopefully for the tour process if this is real it doesn't stop them from being so open.
