CoD: Ghosts MP reveal 14 Aug

I'm curious, having played Call of Duty's 4 through Black Ops, and a bit of both Black Ops 2 and Modern Warfare 3, what are people's gripes with Black Ops 2? It seems pretty low on many of your rankings.

This ain't my first rodeo

It's going to be a 30 second (possibly minute) trailer of features that look cool on paper but for some reason (and that reason is because the cod community) will break it. Then the last 10 seconds will be a feature that should have been in MP's for a long time or is a feature that is already present but they are just making it popular.

ill probably still play it eventually not at launch tho

This is a damn fine list. I'd go Blops, CoD 4, WaW, CoD 2, MW 2, Blops 2, MW3. I apparently liked WaW a lot more than you ha
Thanks man! Haha, mostly it's because of their failed attempt at incorporating vehicles in MP and coming off CoD 4 to go back to WW2 was rough.

IMO,

COD 4, COD 2, MW2, rest of the series

BO 2 was the worst, it has the worst gun balancing out of all the CODs

SMGs overpower assault rifles in every form, shotguns are useless(except the KSG which is way OP), maps are way too close quarters for snipers since quick scoping is gone, LMGs are useless.

Compared to COD 4 where every gun in the game can be used to do well

For me:

COD4 > MW2 > MW3 = BO1 > BO2 > WAW

I played COD2 and COD3, but I think of the newer CODs as a new series of sorts within the franchise.

MW3 gets a lot of shit unfairly, I'd say. The game's biggest fault is that it is essentially a rearrangement of MW2's assets and gameplay, due to the shitstorm that was going on during its development with the former Infinity Ward members leaving Activision, so it barely even feels like a game of its own. With that said, the balance is for the most part quite decent. With MW2 it's very hit&miss; you either love it when things are going in your favor, or you rage like few other games can make a human being rage, what with all the commando bullshit, danger close, overpowered explosives, killstreaks, etc. In that regard, that is, in terms of perk and weapon variety, MW3 can be a tad bland at times, but it's a much more consistent, balanced experience. There's nothing particularly overpowered or annoying, everything works as it should, and the pacing is the right one. Even though I prefer MW2, what I really appreciate about MW3 is that I can pick it up and play it at any time and have fun with it, whereas with MW2 there's at least one guaranteed rage moment per match; and that's being generous.

At least they did it well thematically. World at War had great atmosphere if anything. Heck, I kind of miss World War II shooters these days, and I think I've got a strange affinity for the old weaponry.

Personally, the netcode breaks it for me. BO1 had horrible hit detection as it is, but BO2 has equally horrible hit detection coupled with an obscene lag compensation. It didn't feel like a functional product to me at all, given that this is a game that people play almost solely because of the online multiplayer.

Other than that, it isn't particularly bad to me. There are a couple of enjoyable things there, I suppose. Still, Treyarch has showed me that they are incapable of making an online that actually works as it should. Given that, I will skipping all of their future games. And this is coming from someone who has owned every single COD since COD2, including the atrocious COD3 (another Treyarch product, go figure).

I remember CoD:UO online. Harbour Rifles.

It was you, a bolt action rifle, Harbour map, one hit one kill. It was pure bliss.

If Ghosts is terrible it's getting dropped for something else. Never clicked with Halo or BF so didn't really have any option. Titanfall maybe.

I also saw a video saying the problems that the engine has with the cameras delaying who see who first is the worst on this game than any of the others.

Heres the video http://youtu.be/xyCQtUFOJmA?t=9m7s

Black ops 2 by far has the worst net-code of all cods...if i had a dollar for every time i have seen migrating hosts come up on my screen i could resurrect the dreamcast

BF is still no better...the bullets have a floaty feel to them and many occasions on high pop servers you can empty entire clips into people and they dance around you with a pistol

it will be battle of the netcode

Treyarch CoD games always felt "off". Not just in netcode but in gameplay itself.

They know how to support a game tho, I'll give them that but mechanics wise it felt weak.

I haven't played any treyarch games earlier than the original BO, but it definitely has hit detection issues that weren't in MW2. Ive killed or been killed plenty of times by hitting empty space around someone. It made killing the attack dogs 10x harder than they should be to kill. BO2 seems to have this weird lag that exists even on LAN and split-screen play.

basicly the reason is stopped playing this turd of a game, every match is instadeath after instadeath.

In another video you can see someone having a +600ms sight advantage on someone which is beyond ridiculous. The average response time is 200ms and and most of these guns drop you in less then 250ms so yeah.. nothing you can do.
I never have the feeling of being genuinely outplayed.

These rankings are all wrong.
Infinity Ward > incompetentarch

There I saved you all time

Yup.

I frankly don't get the people who say that Treyarch is the "superior developer". It makes no frigging sense no matter how you look at it. It's not even a matter of opinion. If you have more fun with Treyarch's games and prefer them, that's fine and dandy, I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the fact that Treyarch would have nothing to work on if Infinity Ward had never existed. Just like the post-MW2 Infinity Ward, all that Treyach does is rearrange and rebalance the game mechanics that the former Infinity Ward (now Respawn Games) implemented in the first place with MW1 and MW2. It takes no talent to do that. Even if you somehow end up with a more balanced, more fun game, it's not a sign of a superior developer, or even of a good one. Frankly, there are countless developers out there that could do what Treyarch does, especially if you take into consideration the budget that working for Activision entails for your product if this is going to have the COD label stamped on it.

The funny thing is, even under these circumstances, they don't do that good of a job at what they do. They still can't get right two of the most basic functions of any online shoooter; that is, hit detection and netcode. They could just reuse the Infinity Ward engine for this (which has been nothing but spot-on since MW2), but for some incomprehensible reason they decide to go with their own shitty one.

People need to realize that Treyarch would be nowhere today if it weren't for the work of others. Creating a successful, engaging and relatively innovative game formula; that's what shows real talent. That's what IW did with MW1 and to a lesser extent with MW2, and presumably what they will do with Titanfall as well. The day Treyarch manages something like that without relying solely on the work of other developers is the day when I will admit that they are a great developer. As it is, they are mediocre at best.

Jesus at people putting WaW at the bottom of their lists. It's easily up there just behind MW1 and better than MW2 and MW3 by a fucking mile, before it all went to shit and the hackers fucked it up.

I agree i loved it. Still my favourite soundtrack for any COD game as well.

maps, maps, maps

COD4>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WaW>MW2>>>>BO1>MW3=BO2
(Ranked by maps)

For me my list goes:

1. CoD4
2. WaW
3. Black Ops
4. MW2
5. BO2
6. MW3

Black Ops was my favourite of the more recent games. It just felt like Treyarch actually made a real effort with that game, that it wasn't just a by-the-numbers rehash. It brought custom emblems, CoD points, wager matches, interactive maps, contracts, custom reticules...hell, it even had a scoreboard that made sense, telling you your captures/plants/defuses not just kills and assists. It also had some lovely Cold War guns, which were refreshing and different in a genre swamped with picatinny rails. It also had some creative equipment options like decoy grenades and camera spikes.

Some didn't like the maps, but I thought the majority of them were good and the DLC offerings like Berlin Wall and Kowloon were surprisingly good.

If Ghosts is terrible it's getting dropped for something else. Never clicked with Halo or BF so didn't really have any option. Titanfall maybe.

If Ghosts sucks then I think a lot of people will move to something else.

It happened to Tony Hawk, it happened to Guitar Hero.

Yeah the tanks were overpowered (as was the mp40), but I loved maps like asylum and cliffside while using the stg mowing fools down. I actually kind of want another WW2 cod on next gen systems

Don't think I will buy it.

BO2 was trash. I didn't think much of the killstreaks or maps. But the net code... just like MW3, maybe worse

So whatever they show, good bad or amazing, they won't say net code is fixed because they won't admit something is wrong with it now. Can't trust that net code. So I refuse to buy the rage that is certain to accompany that game.

Shame those who interview these people won't ask either. No one confronts on that issue now, so I know they won't ask at the event

CoD4 is easily the best in the series. MW2 had lots of fantastic maps too but the game was spoilt by nuke boosters every other match. BLOPS was a great solid all rounder. WaW also had great maps but I missed the modern assault rifles with red dot sights, plus only half the maps were available in FFA. BLOPS 2 was a return to form after MW3 and had plenty of new ideas. MW3 is by far the worst in the series, it's the only one I couldn't get into and playing felt like a chore.

Mildly curious to see what they change up. I've only dabbled in the series before.

They should let you be the dog in multiplayer.

If I recall from the reveal and from what they've said publicly, Ghosts will have lean/peeking, interactive maps and "a lot of customisation" that apparently extends to specifics like your helmet.

Personally I hope either Activision or someone in the community makes the MegaCoD, which has every gun and every map since CoD4 with an agreed ruleset for perks and killstreaks.

I find it so odd that people dislike MW3. It's easily my favorite... It felt like the MP shed itself of all the COD bullshit.

MW2 felt like a kill streak fest, and BO2 (when it's not having connection issues) is a quick scope paradise.

For me:

1. COD4
2. BLOPS
3. MW2
4. WAW
5. BO2
6. MW3

Black Ops felt like the closest to reaching the magic of what made COD4 so special, I've only really played COD4 and Black Ops a lot, the rest I just generally revisited every now and again in multiplayer. MW2 was good but the perks and killstreaks ruined it alongside the awful storyline.

Huh.

I didn't care that much for Black Ops compared to it's predecessors. Too many of the guns felt useless.

Specialist bonus achieved. So good.

I play almost zero multiplayer. I don't like it much. I only played BLOPS2 multiplayer to get the prestige achievement. I usually get these every year for the single player. My rankings (in terms of single player) for the games I played look like this:

1) Modern Warfare 2 (added bonus: Spec Ops was awesome too)

2) Modern Warfare 1

3) Black Ops 1 (Zombies was garbage, but that doesn't affect my single player score)

4) Modern Warfare 3 (Specs Ops was awesome, Survivor was annoying)

5) Black Ops 2 (terrible single player, zombies garbage as usual)

Black Ops 2 could have been up there with MW2 if the net code wasn't a complete mess. First Call of Duty I sold as it was simply unbearable.

World at War is severely underrated. Aside from the MP40 and lacklustre sound, the game was fun.

Interested. Hopefully they learned their lesson from MW3 and will actually test their weapons to balance them a little. Treyarch at least actually learned to put some weapon balance in their game. BO1, MW3 and WAW all had everyone using the same 2 or 3 guns.

CoD4>MW2>BO2>>>>>>>BO1=MW3=WAW

I felt like the assault rifles were quite balanced in MW3. BO1 was the game where literally 2 guns were popular and everyone else was not.
