GameStop managers get free XB1, PS4 and 7 games

Very smart move by Sony. Get the people on the front lines your machine.

They can get used to it, become familiar w/ the UI, the share feature, the games, ect... which will naturally allow them to talk about the system w/ coworkers and customers.

Honestly, I would rather have my job and no free PS4. Managers at retail have it rough, the hours stink, but what is worse is trying to find dependable workers you can trust and can show up. When your employee doesn't show up to work, you have to go in and cover for them.

Retail Management would be a very tough job. I am glad the Gamestop managers are getting this. I am sure they put in lots of hours and it is probably nice to get a little appreciation, even if it comes via free stuff.

I wouldn't wish a Gamestop manager position on my worst enemy. I was an assistant at Ebgames way back when, and I remember getting the job at my current company and realizing I made more, working less, than any manager at EB at the time.

I also remember the EB managers all getting Xboxes and Ps2s back in the day, with the caveat that they couldn't trade in the product for like 6 to 12 months or get fired.

One of the smartest things MS did with 360 was give journalists a console and an account with XBL. Everyone started playing together, friends list and all that etc. Locked em in.

This is actually a smart move since gamestop gets so many exclusive dlc content and exclusive collector's editions for games. It appears to be working since I've received countless gamestop emails about the PS4 and just once for the Xbox One.

AFAIK this is pretty common regularly my ex boss would get new console revisions for free. I didn't work under him at the time of last gen launch but I think I remember him saying he received a free Xbox 360 at launch.

My brother in law is a manager at Best Buy and he said they all get PS4s. He also said they are raffling off a couple of Xbox 1's (like 4 I think). Pretty cool.

the Best Buy near by has been trying to get me for years, but I like the small personal environment at my GS. When I was young it was a good thing to go to EB and talk shop and meet other folks. GS doesn't want that, they can cater to broad demographics and struggle with enthusiast. I value the guy that spends $20 in Steam cards and an occasional JRPG on DS more that the soccer mom that drops $500 once a year. That's part of the reason none of the 9 managers (3 which I've trained) never got rid of me. GS does its fair share of crap, but it can be good honest work that doesn't leave you feeling like shit at the end of the day; but its up the store staff and management. Still PS4...damn. They gave them and ASM 3G Vitas last year, no one ever else gets jack.

If those managers are smart, they'll use them as incentives to keep employees motivated through launch and black friday.

But it's gamestop, so most of them will keep it and wonder why they have so many problems getting people to fill shifts.

There are more than enough people to fill shifts out there. The problem is the opposite from what I understand. Not enough hours for the employees, so the managers work crazy uncompensated overtime.

If Microsoft don't do something similar might this mean that they try and push PS4?
Good move by Sony.

Isn't this like bribery? I mean, wouldn't GameStop have a policy against accepting gifts? The company I work for does, I would think GS wouldn't let either manufacturer start a bribery war... Kind of odd.

LOL

I can't accept gifts from our suppliers where I work, for ethic reasons. Last Xmas, I didn't know that policy and almost got fired because I accepted a USB stick and some chocolates.

...You should probably be a manager by now...

Hahahaha, that's exactly what I thought. Not to cast aspersions on the guy, but if you work in entry-level retail at the same place for 12 years and are not a manager or some position with upward mobility, it might be time for a career change. :p

Nice bribe sony

Exactly the same where I work, I thought it was somewhat illegal too. That's why I'm confused. We have to do ethics training once a year about accepting gifts, even when it is a country tradition.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I'm gonna call BS cuz my manager owes me $100 that they've been putting off for paying be since Feb. And no doubt the manager will just either immediately trade in for cash (or wait a month before doing so) or kept it at home and let it collect dust and never play it. Mean while I've been at EB/GS for 12 years and haven't gotten as much as a "thanks for not knocking over a magazine rack" card. Oh well...thems the breaks. Gotta sells them Maddens tomorrow

Dude....dude....not to jump on the wtf bandwagon, but you have worked in games retail for 12 years and are not a manager?

accepting gifts as contributions is how Washington DC works these days. That should answer your questions on if this is legal.

I don't see what's wrong with this.

Think of it as a gift for spreading the joy of video games to millions of costumers

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Gamestop culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is at E3 when Microsoft could just give away Xbox 360 Slims to everyone at their conference. If you accept a bribe at Gamestop, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the american public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase a Playstation 4, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize for treating Gamestop managers to a free PS4 and games or you can kiss your business goodbye.

As to the post above.. Yep pretty much, though I'm not based in the US... I know people who travelled the world over the last 30 years without paying a penny! Shady..

The greatest thing is, MS can't even complain, because for once they're not the one moneyhatting. And this way Sony is benefiting some gamers instead of just developers.

You hear that? Sony even moneyhats better than MS :p
