GFWL can't even die properly.
You can't spell "god-awful" without GFWL.

You can't spell "god-awful" without GFWL.
Remember: you can't spell God Awful without GFWL.
Until someone claims otherwise, I'm taking credit for the creation of this phrase.
You can't spell "god-awful" without G, F, W and L!

Hey stump, why don't you try opening GFWL marketplace to see if there's anything you want to download?
Good idea, stump
"You must install Windows Live Sign-in Assistant"
OK, I'm not sure why, but I'll install that. Whatever.

Hey that's weird.
*googles*
Two possible causes:

1) GFWL does not support two-factor auth and blocks you from using it! Boy I love GFWL!

2) GFWL apparently chokes on passwords with non-alphanumeric characters even when the same passwords work for other Live tools. Boy I love GFWL![/QUOTE]
B-b-but I can increase my gamerscore and it never gave me any problems!

Tangent, but it's sad when the PC market is like this. People won't buy a game for their PC from a PC store unless it's a specific PC store.
Just bring Gears of War to Steam, Microsoft. You know, so it can actually SELL.

Almost but not quite.
The Web store is dead as an always-online-policy so no new purchases obviously. For any individual games that have a marketplace, however, you can still buy DLC with MS points via their in-game store. So for anyone that doesn't mind buying content that's guaranteed to get Xboned in less than a year there's still a chance (for now anyway.)
Considering that the GFWL Marketplace wasn't avaiable in a lot of places, and Steam is available everywhere, I'd say it's not sad at all but an actually valid issue.Tangent, but it's sad when the PC market is like this. Was Gears 1 available for digital download at all to begin with?Tangent, but it's sad when the PC market is like this. People won't buy a game for their PC from a PC store unless it's a specific PC store.

Color me surprised.Yeah, through GFWL store.
What's baffling to me is that they even had the nerve to complain about it not being particularly successful on PC, at the time.Gears was also originally available only through Gametap, I believe.
The PC version has a weird history.
If you generate a per-application password (login.live.com) you can circumvent those two issues. Apparently I spent $1.09 on GFWL Marketplace during its long and sordid history.
I went through every single title that is not available on Steam and thus will officially disappear from digital PC sale when the marketplace closes end of today... and the vast majority of them are already not for sale.

I'm going to guess you will, at some point.I wonder if you can get a digital copy of Gears of War PC somewhere else.
I'm going to guess you will, at some point.
Oh, and on a side note, since during my unfortunate 2-weeks ban I wasn't able to comment on that, let me just say that unlike many other GAFffers I'm quite confident at some point Namco will patch GFWL out of Dark Souls.
The whole "they didn't make a good port so they won't bother" holds little ground, in my opinion. Sure, they didn't put much faith an money on the PC port, but it proved quite successful despise their skepticism and it is showing solid long tail sales every time it gets a discount on Steam, so I think they will patch it.
After all, half of the work is already done for the sequel.
Good. Very good. From is actually working on a patch for Dark Souls at the moment, but at this juncture it's too early to tell what it pertains to exactly. The timing is awfully suggestive, though.
Good. Very good.
Except... Why is the first time I'm reading about this? D:
Why hasn't any developer that has their games on GFWL not come out with an official statement on what will be the status of their game after the service closes?
I wonder if beside patching out GFWL (which sounds like a safe bet) they will consider to unlock the resolution and so on.
This is like the ending of Return of the King, where the Dark Tower falls and everyone cheers, including Gandalf.
Then there's a moment of silence and Gandalf's face suddenly looks upset as he wonders what happened to Frodo.
That's kind of like me right now and Frodo = my games and future games. Yay, it's dead. But, uh, that means the games are dead too...
- F1 2010 and 2011 (non-current yearly instalments are quickly forgotten about by publishers)
- Fallout 3 (Bethesda can simply pull the game and give existing owners a Steam discount coupon for the GOTY version)
- Section 8 and Section 8: Prejudice (both games have an active player base of next to zero)
- Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV (Capcom may see fit to just give existing owners a discount coupon for the upcoming Ultra release)
RIP in Peace v_v
The problem with the discount coupon approach is that, while catering to existing owners on Steam is painless, Capcom would need to set up some sort of system for those who'd bought a copy at retail or via the GFWL Marketplace.
We need laws against this stuff. The activation list is insane. I can't play games my game because you used a busted system that no one asked for?
No, every company should be required to patch in their stuff, especially if it's on Steam.
Telltale Games asked people who bought the retail TWD discs to take a photo of the disc and code, and they give them steam code for TWD and 400 days (because DLC don't work with the retail version) other publishers should do this.
So the games people really care about that need patches are:
Capcom's back catalog, Gears of War 1, Bulletstorm, Dark Souls. Anything else? Has codemaster's said anything about their games?

Iron Brigade is GFWL. Figured Double Fine doesn't have resources to spare to go back and fix that, so I'm playing through it right now.

Double Fine is probably nice (dumb?) enough to patch it anyway.

Guys, amazon is having a pc digital sale rigth now but I don't know if I should buy Dark souls because of all thos GFWL mess =/
There are 9 months until the service shuts down, so you have plenty of time to play it even if Scamco doesn't patch out GFWL -- but as noted earlier in the thread, an update is in the works, and the timing couldn't be more intriguing.
