Using VPN to access NFL Gamepass in North America (alternative to DTV's $300 stream)

Gutshot, you are the man.

The last few years the only thing I've paid for has been the Redzone channel, and for a fantasy guy like myself it's been perfect running along side the televised games & my live streams which you can find online.

I laugh at the prices for this though. I'm more of a baseball fan myself and have zero hesitation when I spend the $120 for MLB.TV premium which gets me nearly every single game a week minus 4 on Saturdays and 1 on Sunday night. Did the math one day and it's like 40 cents I'm paying for a game or something like that.

Holy crap!!! Thanks for posting this info as it worked like a charm...Getting watch NFL Network Live right now, or any of the other previously aired games...Nice quality.

Question is: Won't they cancel this free trial stuff once the season actually starts? I mean, I know the NFL wants to break into the world market so this might be a good way.

Now I need to decide whether to cancel my Madden preorder, as this is perfect..that is, if it's actually available for the regular season.

Edit...rolled the dice and decided to cancel Madden....Plan to get it anyways on PS4, so it would have been overkill anyways..

From what I've read, the reason the NFL gives away the games for free is becase they don't have a TV contract in the Netherlands. I'm guessing their thinking is they can build up a fanbase and then hopefully that will stoke enough interest from a local broadcaster to buy the TV rights.

There is a disclaimer saying that the NFL can stop offering the games for free at any time, but apparently they were free all last season. I'm much more worried about the NFL closing the loophole through which those in other countries can connect to the Dutch stream than I am about them deciding to randomly start charging for the stream.

Again I am asking what others are asking how can they possbily close down the loophole? VPN's are legal and not going anywhere. You can't block IP's because the IP's are based in the countries they are offering the servce.

The only solution would be to stop delivering the game pass service which won't happen since it is a point of revenue for them. I am 100% behind paying for it and wish they would bring it to the USA.

The loophole I'm talking about is the fact that once you have the stream loaded up you can switch back to a US IP and the stream runs fine. That seems like something that the NFL would be able to lock down. Obviously, if you use a VPN and stay connected on a foreign IP there would be no way for the NFL to block access.

I am not sure what can be done to stop that? Once you are connected you are connected.

Not sure how it works with a VPN, but with Hola Unblocker once you switch back to the US, the stream reloads. I would guess they'd be able to add some sort of IP check where each time the stream loads it checks your location and if it is in a restricted country, you get a "Sorry, this stream can't be accessed from your location" message. I'm not a system admin though, so have no idea if something like this is feasible or not. But it sounds logical.

Although something occurs to me: the NFL may not care that people are using a work-around to access their streams in the US. They aren't losing any revenue over it, DirecTV is.

VPN doesn't reload. It goes usually running the stream at a lesser quality on the VPN, when you disconnect it then jumps up to the best quality. You however can't change games. For me I could care less about switching streams. I use this to watch my favorite team, and then watch NFL redzone on NFL network on my cable when my team isn't on.

Like I said earlier in this thread even if they find out about it and block it I hope there is a LOT of people using the loophole so the NFL realizes they need to bring this to the USA because the market is there for it.

Turn off adblockers. If you do, you can switch streams.

In all media, only true fans who consume every book, film, game, or pog collection deserve to know what's going on.
So I tried to rewatch the Steelers game last night and via my Netherlands VPN. All games are shown as blackout. So we can only use this for live games for free?

I found out what my issue was. I was waiting to launch the window that had the video in it prior to turning off the VPN. Once I got into the site and then turned off the VPN I could switch streams. Also to the guy above me asking if the on demand games are blacked out they are working fine for me.

Ok, I found a solution that doesn't require a VPN or any crazy DNS switching. Just a free Chrome browser extension called Hola Unblocker. I've been using it for a couple weeks now and it works great. Here's what you have to do:

1) Add the extension "Hola Unblocker" to your browser.
2) Go to the site: https://gamepass.nfl.com
3) Once there, click the "Hola Unblocker" flame and switch to the Netherlands.
4) The site will now reload, unblocked.
5) Now click a game. A popup will open.
6) Copy the pop-up link, and paste it in a new tab.
7) Wait for it to load, and start to buffer again.
8) Now switch Hola Unblocker "Back to US"
9) Site will reload and the video should start playing.

I plugged my laptop into my TV via an HDMI cable and watched some of the preseason games this past weekend. The quality was great and if you have a wireless mouse you can easily sit back on the couch and jump from game to game.

I tested it on a Chromecast and the video was basically a slideshow, my laptop was struggling to keep up. If you have a really beefy machine, it may be able to do it though. Come to think of it, I have a tricked out iMac at work, I will test it running off of there tomorrow and see if it is any better.

NBC is streaming all of the Premiere League games for free online, if you have a cable subscription. (Or you can do the HBO Go thing and borrow someone elses.)

This is fuckin amazing! Knock on wood it works all year.

Not working for me. When I click on a game, it just reloads the site. I get no popups.

Any ideas?

I'm about just fork over for GamePass. I'm worried that my access will get cutoff if I do the VPN thing sometime mid-season and this Chrome extension isn't working for some reason? I just want something reliable and trusty.

Do you have pop ups blocked? Or Javascript disabled? Also, try clicking on the NFL Network "Watch Now" button, since that is actually airing something right now.

I'm not really gonna be watching many games live, being here in the UK with the time difference and all that.

And I have no idea if popups or JavaScript are disabled. I cant see those options absolutely anywhere, and Chrome's basic unintuitiveness is generally why I gave up on it after 5 minutes the last time I tried it.

I had the same problem, but it resolved itself once I deleted my cookies.

Ah ok. If you are already in the UK it might just be worth it to spend for Gamepass then so you don't have to worry about it.

Well shit. After reloading everything, its now showing up that it costs money in the Netherlands.

Somebody want to double-check that?

EDIT2: And reloading again, its back to free.

???

I have had the money thing pop up also, I just reloaded the page and it went away. Please baby Jesus let this work for the whole season this year.

Just have it clear cookies when you leave the page, worked for me. I had the subscribe popup constantly before I changed it.

Now I'm watching the nfl network

I don't see any option for that.

And I see no subscribe popup, either.

If its going to be this convoluted, I'm not going to bother. I just want to log on and watch a freakin game.

type in cookies

content settings

manage exceptions

hostname pattern, gamepass.nfl.com

behavior, clear on exit.

Now I just close chrome and it works when I start it up and do the unblocker shenanigans.

It didn't work for me when I blocked cookies from the site

Thanks.

But after doing that, its still not doing anything except reloading the page.

Well I was kinda hoping it would be an alternative to using a VPN.

And not sure what Chrome incognito window is, either.

Right-click a link and there should be an option to open an incognito window, or click the three veritcal line icon below the x at the top right of the browser and choose incognito. However I don't think hola works with incognito windows, you can try though. Anyway I didn't buy a vpn explicitly for the nfl gamepass but for another reason involving my job. However since I already bought It I may as well get the most out if it haha.

I'm having the same issues Seanspeed is. I'm working on it and will let anyone know if I find a solution. Thanks for the info.

Looks like it isn't working anymore with the extension. I cannot get it to work anymore either. Also to me it looks like they are charging for the service in the Netherlands.

Maybe someone can clarify this but it looks like even if you had a VPN they still require you to pay for the service.

I tried clearing the cookies below and no luck.

nfl.demdex.net
nfl.com
gamepass.nfl.com
nflenterprises.tt.omtrdc.net

Can anyone with a VPN test and see if they can watch NFL network?

yep, first time I've seen them ask for money using Netherlands in unblocker. Guess they got fed up. Shit that was working this morning isn't now.

Ohh well this sucks. I do have another go to sports site, but the stream quality is garbage. Not sure if I can post it it, but PM me if you're interested.

I will test tomorrow night on my VPN. At this rate I would rather pay for game pass than Sunday ticket online.
