Wait, is he actually blaming consumers of the bad job they did advertising kinect features? Well, that's something you don't see everyday.

no he is blaming hardcore gamers that constantly shun things without actually seeing or trying it. how many neogaf threads of kinect 2.0 do we have that have some members posting shit about kinect without actual watching the vid or reading the dam article.

Sess asking great questions too.

EDIT: I like the car analogy.

What? He's asking legit questions here. Why the power is less, etc.

Problem with the car analogy is that:

Only way a 400hp car is beating a 700hp car is power to weight ratio!

If the xbox 1 was power to weight ratio....well.. the size of the box and its horsepower, it probably wouldnt beat a wiiU in a drag race lol

Seriously tho, conclusion of that is graphics/detail to hardware ratio: ie they will look worse to bear the ps4 hardware :)

Presumably he means the Xbox One is the more refined product, equivalent to a well balanced 400bhp Porsche?

It is getting slightly annoying how MS are attempting to portray their system as the more sophisticated console, they also talk about Kinect and "snap", as if they are mind blowing, must have, features.........

Taking into account everything I've seen and read, the PS4 is the more refined console, it also packs more power to boot (how much more is arguable). PS4's UI appears slick and intuitive, instant play, sharing etc. look to be genuinely useful features. The media side is covered with forward looking services like Netflix and the rumoured cable streaming, meanwhile the Xbox One is tethering you to antiquated cable boxes in an era when cutting the cord is gathering steam.

That is how you're portraying the system.

What he says is digital is coming in this industry just like it has in every other, it is just a matter of when. Anyone that doesn't see this happening industry wide is insane

It is definitely happening. It is in every other medium; why should the video game industry not do it..it is crazy to think otherwise.

It's just your opinion. Forza and Halo are better than any Sony IP I have played (although 3rd parties are my favorite this gen) so saying "outclassed' isn't even something you can prove with a list. It's all down to what people want to play.

Power to you. I won't refute your taste nor will I discredit both of the games you listed. I like both. Especially Forza.

Wouldn't be surprised if they were timed exclusives and that's why they haven't been announced.

Then again, they could be exclusive by default due to the old policy of no self publishing and they will eventually appear on the console since MS realised how stupid a restriction it was and 180'd.

Amen. I hope some of the games make it to Xbone. Everyone deserves to play games. Just like I hope Below comes to other platforms down the line.

It isn't that they are less of games than any other games. Its that they don't sell consoles, if they did the Vita would be selling. Sony giving them away for free doesn't exactly help show their value either.

Poor Vita. The heart of gold platform with games that has the body of a train wreck in terms of it's sales appeal. Games rule but I do wish it was doing better.

*"(Sony's) doing things in their hardware to make it best that they can. We're doing things to our hardware to make it the best that we can. I don't believe the difference between these systems will be as significant as comparing individual components. How is it that a 400 HP Porsche can be faster than a 700 HP Corvette?" -- Overall it's balance...

Yes, because computer components are all feng shui.

Really sounds like all digital is the way to go on the Bone at least. Sounds like they are really emphasizijg fast transitions within the OS, which is great.

Digital or retail physical should not make any difference. Installs from retail disk would essentially be exactly the same thing, only dependant on the drive speed instead of your Internet connection. Only with all the other benefits like being able to lend, borrow, trade in, sell on etc.

You would still need the disc in the system though if you aren't going digital but yet want the console to instantly start up any game you own via voice control (or other similar features).

Well, he actually was talking about people who were "fans of the system".

He's been on my shit list ever since his whiny diatribe about the title of a trophy in God of War Ascension.

This guy has a different opinion than me, FOREVER ON THE SHITLIST WITH YOU.

Come on, man. I strongly disagreed with that rant too, but it was an interesting discussion.

Its not the same thing when you need the disc in the drive

It also has an air of truth to it. He has consistently cited PS+ (and now the camera) in the price of PS4 in order to compare it with the Xbox one, meanwhile not citing XBL in the comparison. He claimed that Sony was withholding information about their no drm policy while in the same breath defending the Xbox one DRM. He feigns ignorance about Hardware specs, while in an earlier video expressing concern over the way PS4 allocates its ram. Among other things that you should know if you do watch his videos on a consistent basis.

The guy is completely disingenuous, and anyone who has watched his videos can pick out the points where his bias lays.

I like Sessler, but all of this is absolutely true.

No, he stated watching Netflix or live TV while a game is installing if someone wanted to.
Ok, sorry then. I usually read GAF when that happens. Also in traffic, at work and other places you don't want to hear about. I'd actually want to have a HDMI-in to have my PC in a PIP box while playing on the console but my tablet fixes that.
He was actually talking about the original Xbox.
Do you know what the adoption rate of XBL on the original Xbox was? But I understand what he meant. I'm going to wash my ears now.

ms should put Albert Penello to do all the interviews

Yes, definitely. Unfortunately, he won't be the guy to speak on the platform as much as he probably needs to be. Sad that these things get shat on for no reason except to shit on them...which is typical forum behavior across the web, but it wasn't so Youtube comment-like at GAF before this year. Hopefully, the stupid will be culled to return the forum to a more reasonable tone again. Then again, maybe it was always this bad at times and because I'm not really into the console war thing as I used to be, I simply notice the dumb emotional diarrhea now.

*Some people don't fully know the features we are giving -- "Are you looking at the info we publish about our system?" Some people aren't doing that.

I've seen all that value add behind their Gold paywall, like Internet Explorer, Pizza Hut, Twitter, Facebook, and Hulu Plus.

Think I'll pass.

But that's perfectly fine. Generally I don't swap between multiple games anyway. Except smaller indie types which I'll play for only a few minutes or something before I head out.

Point being, a small convenience of me having to spend 10-20 seconds of my life putting a disk in a drive is not worth the loss of trade in, lending, borrowing, selling or the physical disk. I appreciate others will disagree, but being able to do the above adds massive value to a purchase imo. For me to lose these options the digital version would have to be much cheaper than the retail, a la Steam.

Midnight digital launches would be cool. Wish they would do it now with 360 (GTA V)

Microsoft has some issues with allowing games to be sold digitally on day one.

http://www.examiner.com/article/gta...ox-360-digital-pre-orders-and-games-on-demand

For those asking about digital pre-orders on Xbox LIVE, the Xbox 360 Games on Demand service does not offer the ability to pre-order games or make them available on launch day. That being said, we will be making GTAV available via Games on Demand as soon as it's technically feasible and permitted by Microsoft.

Random thought. I am almost more excited about the first Digital Foundry head to head as I am the consoles themselves launching.

I know that some people will but exaggerating the differences, and other people minimizing them, and that's going to be fun, but I'm also eager to see just how different they are for myself.

The power discussion is a tricky one. I'd be playing up how the Xbox 360 was less powerful than the PS3 and how that didn't really matter much for the end results. And when the interviewer said something about the PS3 being hard to develop for, I'd talk at length about the improvements Microsoft have made in their developer relations and tool chains etc from Xbox 360 to Xbone. Point out how, like, look we're literally helping the developers code for this. It's an architecture they're more familiar with in X86. etc etc.

Car analogies are always always always terrible when it comes to anything gaming related.

Always.

Where does this Adam is shill stuff stem from? I don't see it myself

I like Sessler, but this recap is 100% spot on, anyone watching rev3 consistently picked up on this. I still thought this particular interview was good and really enjoy Rev3's content over any other site though.

To be fair, we heard this all before with Kinect 1.0, and it didn't really pan out. So far all we've really seen of 2.0 is an ok boxing game and then those little tech demos from either E3 or the Microsoft press event beforehand (or both).

The tech is cool, and I don't think many people are denying it on that front. The problem is that we haven't seen anything compelling for the Kinect 2.0 to lay down that extra $110+tax for an Xbox One with Kinect/Live over the PS4 with PS+.

He's been on my shit list ever since his whiny diatribe about the title of a trophy in God of War Ascension.

We have half of our forum front page filled with whiny diatribes on most days, sometimes more, sometimes less. People worry about stupid shit, and that took the cake. However, that's a completely different subject from what many are insinuating.

A great, candid interview on both sides. I understand Penello is not in PR, but it shows that he used to be, he could teach Microsoft's current PR people a thing or too.

You're asking for a thread derail, bad idea. :p

You clearly did not watch the vid.

Yes, I did? He's peddling that same crap about discs going away and that it's "da future." DVDs and Blue-Rays haven't gone away, and I doubt game discs will either. If they do, then that's when I'm out, because I don't have high-speed internet where I live.

Also, Sessler did softball that particular question. The rest, not so much.

I'm a huge fan of Sessler, but this is actually all true. I think he's just trying really hard to balance out the playing field despite it being heavily in Sony's court of late. Problem is he's not doing it in the most tactful of ways and it's compromising his otherwise excellent reputation somewhat.

hahah come on son, that car thing hahah wow. X and y dont equal z with regards power on a console like it does with power and weight with a car. More horsepower is going to be the big thing all day, they are both the same systems with one having more power than the other. Thats like saying a wii u will show better techincal gfx than a pc because its balanced.

Exactly. I LIKE Kinect. I can't believe MS showed a grand total of nothing gaming wise for Kinect 2 at E3. I'm still not over that. I was prepared to be sold on Kinect 2 as a gaming device...

I'm still waiting.

Albert is better at evangelizing the Xbox One than Microsoft's own PR.

Great interview with honest, direct questions and honest, direct answers. This guy should have been on stage at E3.

It just so happened the only way to make instant switching work meant doing something game publishers have been wanting to do for a decade now. Kill the used game market. What a coincidence.

So because we all need to experience the awesomeness of instant switching games, we all need to give up our rights as consumers to resell the things we own? That sounds like a reasonable and fair offer.

You don't own it. Yes you physically own something, but you do not own the data that is on that disc. It has always been that way with software. There have been cases going each way, but the EULAs aren't being adjusted.

The fact that we have been able to resell is absurd when you actually look at the EULA for every piece of software.

I didn't see any big problem with the interview on either side. People should really cool it with the Sessler comments unless he actually does something to justify it. Bringing up past actions and comments every time his name is mentioned is pretty unfair, not to mention it derails the thread.

Who is this Parnello dude, he should be in charge of Microsofts Xbox division asap, he has been the only one who sound knowledgable out of all the wankers that work in that division

Can a discussion really be interesting when it's based on a false premise?

The only interesting thing that came out of Sessler's tirade about the Bros Before Hos trophy was the fact that he was somehow not offended by the far more revolting and misogynistic "I didn't do it...But I wish I did!" sequence from God of War 3.
