Xbox One Dashboard Leak - Version 2

RoboPlato

I'd be in the dick
Moving into the game from the dash is crazy fast. Wow. Hope there's an option to have the game pause when you hit the Guide button though.

Of course, the big question that won't get answered until launch is how much of the dashboard space will be taken up by advertisements, because we all know how ridiculously profitable ads were for Microsoft this gen, and I fully expect Microsoft to double down on them next gen.

I feel bad for this guy's parent (who almost definitely works in E&D). What a moron, even videotaped the pre-release label on the console and the avatar picture. Making the security team's job easier I guess.

I may be the only one, but I'm just not a fan of Metro UI. It just looks bad. I understand it's simplistic and easy to navigate, and it keeps inline with what they're doing with Window 8 and Mobile, but still thinks its a terrible UI design.

Looks very early, pretty much the same as the pictures that have been released that we've been told aren't indicative of where it's at right now. I'd venture to guess the latest build that was shown behind closed doors at Gamescom isn't available as beta yet.

That UI looks ugly as shit but at least it isn't horribly laggy like the 360's.

360 UI is far from perfect, but if you want to experience a real laggy UI than try the new PSN Store on the PS3. It often takes the program good 3 seconds or more to react to user input. Quite pathetic if you ask me...

Kinda related: XBOX HALP

All game developers publishing on Xbox One will have to submit information to Game Help, a function on Microsoft's new game console that aims to fundamentally change the concept of user manuals. Developers submit a "help manual" to Microsoft, which then converts said manual into contextual in-game help, either on-screen or via SmartGlass. "You can access this in a couple of different ways," Microsoft general manager Ron Pessner told Engadget. "In front of your console, you can say, 'Xbox: Help!' and then it will appear on the console. Or in SmartGlass, you can click on the Help icon and then it will just tune into exactly what you're doing and present the right help content for you."

This applies across the rest of the console as well, including Internet Explorer and even the system's settings. You can say, 'Hey, I'm in Internet Explorer, where are my settings?' Okay, well, here's where you are. Or how do I add a contact? Or how do I add a friend? Or how do I do Game DVR clips? We think this is gonna apply not only to games and game help, but also to applications on the system as well as the system itself," Pessner said.

Beyond the standard uses, it can be integrated into gameplay directly. Should a cheeky developer decide to make a joke at the gamer's expense for needing help, that's possible. Pessner stressed that the functionality isn't intended to dumb down games, nor is it an auto-play system. "We've been very thoughtful about how this is implemented or what's possible," he said. At very least, it'll serve to add another layer in our already thorough list of Xbox commands.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
You're seriously going to navigate the dashboard with your iPad? I highly doubt that. I highly doubt anyone will do that.

Sounds so convoluted when you can just use your controller or the unruly Kinect.

I navigate my 360 with my phone. It's awesome.

I'm not sure how much more clear "Xbox Bing Fez" could be. It takes 2 seconds for the download page to come up. It works incredibly well with the current Kinect. It doesn't do a direct translation, it searches available content for the closest match. So unless a game comes out called Zonic the Fedghog, it's unlikely that it'll interpret your speech wrong most of the time. If you search for Zonic the Fedghog today, it's likely Sonic The Hedgehog will come up because, like I said, it's searching for the closest match not literally trying to interpret your speech letter for letter.

I have no idea why but this made me laugh out loud.

But yeah, the Kinect voice search right now is pretty slick and I can only imagine it will be better with X1

At least the Sony Entertainment Network website has made the PS3's PSN store redundant. Considering how good the Vita's PSN store is in comparison, I don't think there should be too much of a concern over the PS4's store.

I just realized if the system needs an update on first boot up that means even if you somehow get it early it won't work until launch. Hopefully the servers don't get hammered on launch.

Why would MS have a controlled leak rather than showing a rehearsed employee going through every important part of the UI with high production values and obvious praise?

i just like how its his only video ever, he shows his face as if we're supposed to know him and his generic name they assembled from a hat as the account name.

reminds me of when Angry Joe had a vid earlier this year outing all the fake accounts going around leaving 5 star reviews for a game and were created that same day and had no other reviews.

Its bad when we have to have a leaked video to get a little bit of hype for a next gen console. That goes for both consoles. Sony showed a little at Gamescom but all I want is a dedicated video going through the features of the dashboards. Its amazing how much we haven't seen the consoles in action at this point.

Great, I thought I missed my chance to comment with old thread being locked and all.

Not big fan of windows 8, bought a cheap laptop for my aunt and hated the metro interface.

The tiles thing could work in this setting though, but I'm just not a big fan of it. The multitasking looked cool, but I don't see a reason to have a game run in the background when you are not in control of the game!

Watching tv in the side bar while you are playing a game could potentially be interesting. But I wonder just how much the performance of the game would suffer in that type of a situation. Besides, who the heck will play a game shrunk down.

I think these are cool, "wow look what this thing can do" features that will almost never be used. (Talking about multitasking In terms of picture and picture).

+ Looks nice and responsive
+ Clean and uncluttered
+ Jumping in and out of the game seems lightning quick

- Having to pause the game before pushing the Guide button
- Having the store as a separate application rather than have it integrated into the Dashboard
- I hate tiles, having to keep scrolling right to see everything there is to offer is just plain annoying
- Holy shit that box collects fingerprints like CRAZY

Overall, it's doing some things really well and others not so much.

360 laggy? Are you serious?

Lindsey has never owned a 360 CONFIRMED.

Ugh, why does it have to look exactly like a Windows 8 screen? :[ I can get away from it on my laptop but not on this. It makes everything feel a lot more cluttered than it should be. I dunno. I can never just get it to look nice and clean. It really bothers me.

I just did research on Bing Rewards and switched to Bing. Lol.

Thanks for the thread, will check out the video in a minute. Bing is actually really good. It does not deserve the crap that it gets. I look forward to seeing what the new background photo for it will be. The best one was a gif with Japanese Macaques (aka Snow Monkeys) in a hot spring.

Do we know if thats a thing? I mean on the 360 dash we still have to press a button with a bag on it that says "Browse Games" to get to the store but other stuff (ads) which go to marketplace links don't go through it.

I would have assumed it would still be the same as it was on Xbox 360.
