Kingdom Hearts Community Thread: Now everybody can be a Keyblade Wielder!

I'd rather do all that, then try an beat the game under 15 hours. I don't like speed type trophies. I don't play games like that, no matter how many times I've played it.

The speedrun trophy is really easy on beginner difficulty tho. If you plan on platinuming the game you should do the speedrun and start equipment trophies on beginner and just skip all the worlds you can (Coliseum, 100 A, Monstro, Atlantica) and you should be able to do it in like 10 hours or something. You start the game with exp boosting accessory in beginner mode so that helps considerably too.

The exp boosting accessory would stop you from getting the no-equipment-change trophy, but yeah this is good advice otherwise.

Excited to replay these games, have to beat Dream Team first this week though.

Wow Divine Rose's strength was raised? I always use that keyblade for some time when you obtain it.

Also, *most* keyblades have the strength of their Critical attacks severely weakened (but their general strength raised).

Apparently you do get the trophy since it is your starting equipment (as in equipped from the start). At least that what the internets say.

Also the stat up items you get in the beginner makes up the difference for using Kingdom Key the whole game anyway :lol. Beginner is a joke.

My first run I'm doing 100% so, I can't even try that. It will probably be my third run if I try it, 2nd time through will be not changing any equipment. You can change your other party equipment right? Or is it everyone that can't change?

Ahh this makes more sense as landing critical hits is one of advantages of using Divine Rose. I was thinking a strength increase by itself sounded a bit too much of an improvement.

Yeah, i'm prettysure the trophy unlocked for me with the beginner default equips and not changing them.

I cruised through that whole playthrough with the default equipment. I just did mandatory story segments and avoided enemys for the mostpart and had no trouble beating it (and in under 15 hours too)

The trophy says clear the game without changing equipment so I don't think so. I didn't switch anything for anyone from the default for the entire game though, so there's a possiblity I could be wrong.

That's a solid plan, especially with the difficulty trophies not stacking.

My plan is:
Proud run with 100% (stopped because of gummi bullshit)
Standard run without changing equipment
Beginner run under 15 hours

I would have done a lv1 run like I did KH2 if they added bonus lv to the game, but that didn't happen so I'll just do it on KH2HD then.

It's also what makes One Winged Angel stand out, IIRC, as that's one weapon in the Final Mix version of the game with really really great crits.

Well, that and the fact that it's even longer than the Ultima Weapon. Though the addition of Combo Master in 1.5 may make it less useful to focus on keyblade length.

The Gummi trophies majorly bummed me out too

Yeah. That's prettymuch what I was going to do but ended up doing no changing equipment on beginner with the speedrun, my standard run wasn't very fun because I had no goals/requirements other than finish the game and unlock the trophy.

Can't even begin to imagine how excited I'll be for KH2.5 ReMix if I'm already anticipating this one so much. KH2FM and BBSFM in HD in a single package is going to blow my fucking mind.

Let's just hope SE doesn't invent any new ways to fuck us up.

Eh, we'll see. It ought to be announced reasonably soon, I think, and I don't anticipate that they'll be actively malicious. Square-Enix does a lot of shitty stuff these days, for sure, but they do it because they're cheap.

I remember with the KH 1.5 HD Remix and the FFX/X-2 remaster, people kept thinking that Square-Enix would give NA/EU the non-Final Mix/non-International versions of the games, *just* because that would be the shitty thing to do. But that'd also cost *more* - porting two versions of the game - than simply porting one version of the game. It'd be expending *extra* effort to fuck us over, and that's not something Square-Enix will do. We'll get the 2.5 HD Remix because it's pretty much money in the bank for Square-Enix to do that. We won't get a full remake of DDD, just its cutscenes (IMO), because a full remake of a touchscreen/dual-screen game would actually require redesigning, so it'd cost development time and money to do and Square-Enix doesn't want to actually expend that much time and effort on this stuff.

Hmm, if you were to make DDD into a cutscene movie, then how much of the story would you really need to include? Obviously, you'd want most cutscenes from the final world since that's when it gets crazy, and the opening is needed to set up the dreams and Keyblade Exam premise, but are any of the things happening in Disney worlds actually relevant?

Maybe some of the times when one of the antagonists comes to spout nonsense in those worlds.

Not terribly much - the vast bulk of the story is front- and back-loaded with exposition and there are only a few moments here and there in the middle of the game that have anything to do with the overarching story. It'd still likely get included, though; the cutscenes are already voiced and animated, so you might as well.

They need to include Rikus ''You could write a book about that!'' scene or the cutscenes would be worthless.
I don't remember that one. Can you refresh my memory?

I think the funniest antagonist scene is the one where Sora meets Xenmas and Vanitas in Nortre Dame.

Which can basically be summed up as: "Hello Sora. This is Vanitas. He looks like you. Isn't that something? Bye!" And then it never really comes up again. How did he even have Vanitas there, anyway? I thought he got quite thoroughly destroyed in BBS, although I haven't played that one yet.

Makes it nearly certain that Vanitas will be a member of the new Organization XIII, I think.

Fair enough. I do like a good duel boss fight. And a Sora vs. Vanitas fight has potential. Or Kairi vs. Vanitas just for the fun of it.

Honestly, I'm hoping for a 2.5HD release just so I can get to fight Roxas in KH2:FM+. That fight looks so awesome.

Oh, right. That scene. Riku was just awesome in DDD. Easily the highlight of the game. It's actually fun to see a character like Riku after he's done the whole corruption/redemption arc. It's rare that a character like that lasts that long in a story. I'm actually curious where they're taking him next, because the redemption was completed in DDD, so now what? Where does Riku go from there? Apart from the obvious usefulness of having mastered his darkness and being immune to Xehanort's posession ability now. I think that will come in handy in KH3, at least.

Sora dies and Riku succeeds him as the leader of the guardians of light, with Xion filling in as number 7?

Please don't shoot me it was a joke. I'd love to see the Disney Execs soil themselves if that happened.

That's actually what worries me... twofold. Riku is a more competent hero than Sora. And his character arc is pretty much done. But since Sora is still the main character, Riku can't be allowed to be a better hero. So... what now? Either he becomes Sora's mentor in all things Darkness, which admittedly would be awesome "Now Sora, this is how NOT to get possessed by Xehanort.", or he ends up written out, put in peril, sent on a parallel mission or is just plain killed. Granted, Kingdom Hearts isn't big on killing characters, they just get sent to the Shadow Realm.

Wait... Shadow Realm? I wonder... are they sending Riku to the World of Darkness to fetch Aqua? He would be the best person for that job, if he brings along a way out.

That would make the most sense, I think.

I just don't really know what they can do with Kairi or Axel just yet.

Riku should have died at the end of DDD. Master Xehanort returns, first thing he does is kill Riku, BAM! To be continued... Talk about getting Xehanort some heel heat and really raising the stakes for KH3. Like you said, his arc is already done. Might as well use him to get Xehanort over.

Obviously replace "died" and "kill" with whatever is applicable for Kingdom Hearts.

The brief story synopsis they put out at the game's announcement suggested exactly that, actually:

In an effort to undermine Xehanort's plot, Sora, Donald and Goofy search for seven guardians of light and the "Key to Return Hearts," while King Mickey and Riku search for previous Keyblade wielders.

Makes sense, considering Riku and Mickey are the only ones thus far to leave the WoD unscathed and lived to talk about it.

Huh, I hadn't read that. Mickey and Riku going out to find Aqua and with her, finding out how to get to Ventus. Mickey has been to the WoD before, and probably knows his way around there, and Riku is practically immune to darkness at this point, so yeah. Perfect team for finding Aqua. And Ansem the Wise, if I remember who's at that beach at the moment.

Amusingly, if Sora and Riku had waited just a little while in the WoD in the KH2 ending, they could have picked up both of them before going back home.

Train under YS and go help the main heroes when they get themselves in some shit.

I'm gonna be curious to see some of the new character designs for the upcoming game.

I know the pre-alpha footage shows Sora still wearing his KH2 clothes, but that's just pre-alpha footage, and if I know Nomura at all, he'll totally want to redesign all of the main human protagonists' clothes again just like he did for KH2.

But, more specifically, I'm going to be interested to see if Lea starts wearing something other than the trademark black raincoat, and I'm going to be interested to see if Kairi gets a design that makes her look more battle-ready (like Aqua).

We have a sense of what Sora is going to do, then, as well as what Riku is going to do. But what about Axel Lea and Kairi?

Kairi will be tutorial chapter a.k.a. KH2 Roxas.

Lea gets to be KH2 Mickey: skulks around in the background dispensing cryptic clues until he's needed on the frontlines, then jumps in with a fancy entrance/line and lends a hand.

If BBS and DDD are anything to go by, the Osaka team are generally smart enough not to include huge boring tutorial chapters at the beginning of the game.

On the other hand, having a bit with Kairi getting trained does make some sense, so we'll see. We still haven't gotten a Dive to the Heart segment for her or for Riku (though, at this point, I'd say one for Riku isn't necessary).

A Dive to the Heart bit for Kairi would be smart, though, only inasmuch as it'd make it possible to remind everyone that Naminé exists. Because, seriously, even Nomura forgot she existed after KH2.

Wasn't Namine mentioned in DDD? Just briefly, but a lot of characters were mention briefly in that. Almost as if the were reminding us that they existed.

That's pretty much what it was.
It's actually kind of funny looking back at it. Can you imagine playing DDD first?

This is a dark Sora. He is not important in this game. This is a cute blonde girl. She also doesn't matter. Here are a lot of strange names of people just waking up as "people" again. More than half of these don't matter.

You'd almost think it's Square-Enix trying to paint themselves out of a corner to make a Kingdom Hearts 3 that is easy to follow. So they get all the plot contrivances out of the way in DDD to make way for an all-out brawl in KH3. I mean.... time travel? I wonder how much that will factor into KH3. Well, I suppose it could make the final world be The End of Time, which would be fun. (And a Chrono Trigger cameo wouldn't go amiss here...)
