Reborn (sci-fi action RPG set in Neo-Tokyo) announced for PS3/PS4

Digital release tells me we're thinking the game is bigger than it really is. That said, 1.5 million still seems terribly low.

Looks somewhat interesting; I'd like to see more when the kickstarter goes live. If one of the pledge tiers includes a physical copy of the game, I will be a lot more interested.

Dragon's Crown was made with a $1 million budget. They haven't really specified the game's scale so $1.5 million might be enough.

Would never have called this. 150k sounds low for a ps3/4 project...

Project Phoenix had a similar target. But it also had super deformed characters, which would have to be cheaper than fully-formed 3D models. So one of two things is happening here:

That 150,000 goal is for something else and they actually have funding for the primary game.

Much like Project Phoenix, they're going to try and stretch goal themselves into a real game. (Project Phoenix sounded more and more complete with every goal. That 4.8 million goal sounded like it could've done a disc copy sale.)

Also: This game looks fucking gorgeous from the concept art and sounds like something I'd sink 40+ hours into. We'll see what comes of it.

Based on the real historical swordsman, Musashi Miyamoto leads this group through a plot teeming with deceit, violence, love, betrayal and sacrifice against a backdrop inspired by traditional Japanese lore. Rich with philosophical themes and generous subtext, Reborn tells a tale that asks the question, “What is freedom without free will?”

Does anyone else get a Planescape: Torment vibe with that last bit? The developers talked about keeping the depth of older RPGs... I'm liking it. Interesting setting too.

3D Action/RPG with Devil May Cry-style combat, a detailed RPG leveling system, stealth segments, and gorgeous art and they're only asking for $150k? Unless they have serious funding elsewhere, this is a pipe dream.

That is no where need the appropriate budget, especially if they are in CA. Typical monthly burn rate is around $13,000 per employee. If they get anything pass their goal that money will dry up really quick.

I agree, but 13,000 a month is absurd. Maybe try living not in the most expensive part of sf? East Bay anyone? Health insurance costs money, but not that much...

Seems that Elemental Labs has had a twitter account since 2009. Can't figure out if they have released any games. Their website doesn't seem to have any content on it.

Cautiously optimistic but would have to see some gameplay. Being made in the guy's garage doesn't inspire confidence. Really this is the sort of game Sony should be making or backing. They don't have an iconic RPG to call their own and something set in Neo Tokyo with a Blade Runner vibe done well would be amazing.

Also the game seems to be planned for XBone as well, unless something has changed:

Currently, we are working on an unannounced next-gen video game for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Perhaps theres a reason its been moved to PS3? They might be trying to work something out with Sony?

Seems too ambitious for a kickstarter. Maybe we should tweet the Sony guys who were asking for game projects/ideas we would want to see get greenlit or funded. I could see this type of game being huge if they went all in.

Oh absolutely backing this. Concept art looks great and, I'll be honest, you had me at Sci-fi Action RPG Set In Neo Tokyo.

I am interested to see how well a Kickstarter goes over with no PC version considering it's usually the go to platform for these kind of things.

Environment concept art looks amazing.

Character designs are pukeworthy.

The synopsis is kinda neat as long as they don't take the Musashi stuff too heavy-handed.
