Probably already posted but when you go into a tunnel you lose gps reception. When I seen that happen I said WOW.

I may have misheard, but:

I chased down some Lost gang members after they robbed a a guy and when I returned to him, he was on the phone with someone (maybe 911). As I'm driving up to return his money, he (pretty sure it was him) says to the person on the phone "Oh, hold on, here comes someone," as if he were telling the person on the phone that he was just robbed.

Three wise monkey pose that Micheal, Trevor and Franklin took in one of the missions. Very subtle.

I lol'd when I saw that.

I like that flat bill hats are actually New Era hats with the flag logo.

Visiting Trevor when he's at Sandy Shores as Michael or Franklin and he's drinking whiskey out the bottle and tossing grenades around for no reason.

Driving with Trevor and having a Britney Spears song come on and him immediately saying to change the station/song because it sucked. Had Mikes Son change the station on me to listening to some Classic Rock while driving to go ride bikes.

ps.. is this the thread that talked about buying the HAL stock? Because I went in on some. Anyways.. lot's of GT threads. Not sure which one I saw that in.

Try the OT, I think there was a lot of stocks discussion there

i helped these two random dudes rob a store and when i drove them to their destination they killed me instead of splitting the money. thought that was kinda funny.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Trevor running after a bunch of strippers in his underwear during one of the transitions back to him.

Best thing i've seen so far.

I started following some random pedestrian girl in the street, and throwing random lines at her telling her she was hot. She said leave me alone, and started walking faster and looking over her shoulder as if she was scared I was going to rape her. Thought that was a particularly cool small detail.

Most impressive to me is the myriad of small details which made up the huge detail of the road system. All the turn lanes, varying road textures, the windy roads of upscale neighborhoods, the cooky intersections. Rockstar absolutely nailed the feeling and look of California. I spent most of my childhood living in the bay area and I visit once and while, I miss it there a lot, I feel like its my home. The first few hours of GTA V was amazing for me because I almost felt like I was actually visiting CA and it was a great feeling.

After loosing my 3 Stars and still driving around the hood watching the Police chopper search light looking for me still.

Once I lost the cops and got rid of my stars but they were still around searching for me.. i drove in front of one thinking nothing would happen without stars and the chase was back on, that was cool

As Trevor I was abusing an NPC ( pressing the right DPAD button near them) which caused Trevor to insult them.

After 2 insults the woman said she is gonna call the police, did it one more time and she called the police.

Not sure why but this totally random moment just made me so happy.

If you hear an NPC saying that during the game, get ready to flee because they will call the cops.

One thing I like is the you learn what the extra goals in missions are from the dialogue instead of a screen prompt. I missed out on earning a lot of gold medals because I didn't realise a character saying something throwaway like "He's getting away, forget about him" meant I could still chase after the guy.

Had a pretty fucked-up moment when I was playing as Michael last night. I was in his house to change his clothes for a mission, when I hear some weird noises from the bathroom. It's his daughter throwing up, alluding to her bulimia (Michael talks about it in one of the meetings with a psychiatrist). Michael then told her "you don't have to do that" and she says "no father wants a fat daughter". That's some mentally scarring shit.

I felt exactly the same. I'm from the UK and visited California a few years ago for work (attendind E3). I spent an afternoon walking around Santa Monica. GTAV is exactly like my memory of that day - the haziness of the air, the light, the atmosphere, the buildings. It really felt like visiting somewhere I'd been before.

I had the same feeling walking down GTA's version of Hollywood Boulevard at night. The same combination of Hollywood glamour and touristy shoddy faded glory.

I don't know the characters' names yet, but Franklin's friend tells you during the very first mission/meetup that you need a new haircut, and if you get a new haircut by the second mission, he comments on it. I thought that was a cool touch.

Wow that is fucking ridiculous *mind blown*

Driving along with someone talking to you in the car and if you manage to smack the car really hard into something they will stop talking till you are back in "control of things". Even better they pick right up from where they left off in the conversation.

It just felt like a really natural thing.

Also the ambient sounds in the game is pretty incredible, whether in the city or in the wild.

It just sounds so good and alive ( headphones required)

This is one the main reasons I prefer to game with headphones (HD ones of course!) so I don't miss out on these sounds. It may not seem like it, but it adds so much to the experience.

Saw this on reddit yesterday

Also I love the random encounter people in this game. Met a crazy vietnam vet and
Jesus Christ
so far

Plus I think it's interesting how the cutscenes for missions change depending on who starts them. Sometimes you can start a mission with either of 2 different characters and the cutscene will be slightly longer if you did it with the right character

The mission where you switch between Trevor and Michael and you have to shoot a guy based on what you're told, if you shoot the guy beforehand, like if you failed the mission, Michael will say 'What? That's the guy. Gut feeling. It'll work out.'

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
The Dangerous Goods stickers on things like Petrol Tankers, they even got the number right, #3 (For the record there are 8 DG ratings with 1 being the most dangerous (Explosive) and 8 being the least (Corrosive).

A couple of things which add to the richness of the game that people might take for granted.....

Little events now have small bits of dialogue and little camera pans which were in older games but they seem broader in GTA5. I kind of like that there's a little bit of talking when doing small events. Hell, even the flight school is well developed and has tutorial videos.

Another thing is the random events when loading into a new character while in game or just loading the game up when you continue the story. Like when switching to Michael, you get a little bit of cutscene where he stumbles out of best and says something and changes into his clothes. You can tell this changes as it seems like when you first start the game you transition into him in a more natural way. For example, I loaded into him and he was having lunch with his wife and they had a small bit of dialog. When you get to a certain point he wakes up groggy in bed. This makes things all the more detailed.

Also, when driving and going through character dialog for the story - If you crash or are interrupted by the car flipping the dialog stops. Rockstar fixed a small gripe I had when you get interrupted by whatever may be happening and simply pausing the dialog. So anyone could be in the middle of a sentence and the car crashes head on to a wall. The game smartly stops the talk and resumes shortly after when things are back to normal. It makes things very cohesive and believable and also doesn't hinder you from missing dialog bits since in the past the car would make lot noise or there would be ambient noise or some explosion and the audio would interfere with the voice. In this new method they've implemented it feels much more realistic since it's not very realistic for normal dialog to continue when you run head on to a wall or something.

The little details.

Dunno if this has been said yet but ... I love the sound it makes when you hit an overweight person. Literally spent 2hrs going around hitting randoms.

Seemingly every single character that can ride with you has reactions to you crashing into shit, too. Even minor random event passengers. The best one was trying to escape the cops with Lamar riding along and crashing into something and he says "Yous an uncoordinated motherfucker aint you?"

Watching a paramedic write a medical report when there's been a victim and the emergency services turn up, and listening to him talk about it.

Getting a gun pulled on me when I stole some rich dude's car, he nearly killed me before I was able to get away. Surprising that this was never in any of the other games.

The bloodwork in the game is so well done. I didn't really notice it until I finished a rampage and just noticed how gross and sticky it looked.

and I love that almost every major event gets a Weazel News Update. Tracey's voicemail also changes later in the game when she's doing her 'cam' stuff.

The sound design in this game is phenomenal.
.

I agree, but I got a new speakers just before the game came out and all I can hear now is the terrible compression on the voices. I understand they have to put a lot on a disc but it sounds so compressed! I can't unhear it

I notice this too.
Is it different in the ps3 version ?

When I was driving, I slammed into a wall and it made a mark on it. In the same instance, when trying to drive away, I must've hit the front right corner of car pretty hard so the bumper was pushed back into the front right wheel, not allowing me to turn well (had to use the handbrake). That was pretty cool.

I've been impressed with the random character switching. I usually get moments where Michael and Franklin are interacting with other people when I switch. One time Franklin was holding Lamar back from fighting 2 guys, another time Michael was sitting on the beach and being yelled at by a lifeguard to put his cigarette out (I believe his words were "look around this whole place is a fucking ashtray").

I still haven't unlocked Trevor yet but I can't wait to see what his random moments are. I bet they're wild.
i switched to trevor and he was burying something, hah.

One of the most prominent small touches for me was the clinking of the car when it's turned off - such an awesome touch! Overall, though is game was crafted with love and care -- very evidently so.

- Older, worn out cars have squeaky brakes, and tend to not start up if you leave them off for too long

- Constantly crashing your car degrades it's performance, until it refuses to start

- The Email conversation between Franklin and his ex-girlfriend Taneesha :(

I thought I heard this! That subtle clicking cars make when they've just been turned off.. awesome.

Also, the sheer variety of NPC's is wonderful. I don't think I've come across any duplicates (or even anywhere near that) yet.

This game is insane. INSANE.

Last night I switched to Trevor only to find him drunk sleeping on the railroad.

And he complained too as the train was approaching: "Ah, fuck, I was sleeping".

Happened for me too.

Yep. Noticed it too. :(
