GTA Online monetization model leaked. Buy money. [Found on Rockstar Servers]

First thing I'm going to do is spend $100 in in game money in order to be the richest guy in the game, at the very least the richest person in my friends list.

I'll be the very best player in GTA Online. King of kings. Mob leader. And I'll cheat my way to the top by paying for in game money. It's what Rockstar would have wanted.

Do I need money to jump and ragdoll into random pedestrians? I only care if this is the case.

Ahhhhh, that makes sense. I've been calling it bonking, as I usually use it to smash my characters skull into random objects and/or pedestrians. Does an instakill with people on benches.

I... I gotta go. :D

Sounds like itll be like any other "Pay money for ingame cash" plan iv heard of. And I dont do those so unless they make it so you miss out on something why bother with it at all?

Iv already seen a few videos on making "infinite money" in GTA5 SP so im sure that within the first few days we will see something like that for MP. Something something hindsight something something /shrug

All the infinite money tricks I've seen require switching between characters, which you can't do in multiplayer.

You're goddamn right.

This seems like it's open to an awfully large amount of grief and abuse..... Surely I'm not the only one thinking that players are just gonna target other players who spend real life money?

Unless the game completely locks out players who don't pay (safe to say it doesn't), then there's still the potential someone could just come in with grenades and wreck stuff up.

Just seems like a bad idea all around, given the nature of the game. It'll either be too restrictive (and thus turn players away), or it'll be lenient enough to allow any goofball who gets his hands on explosives to ruin any real life purchases. Both are unfavorable situations for Rockstar.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
The real reason why they waited for Oct 1st is revealed. So all this extra cash earned will go on to they're next quarterly earnings report.

Ding ding ding.

Ya'll thinking this delay is about review scores are off your rockers. Review scores wouldn't change.

Holy shit. I hadn't considered the Fiscal Year implications...but would it have made a difference? Wouldn't transactions performed after Oct 1st still factor in to next fiscal year even if they had released it now? It's not like all transactions henceforth count towards the previous FY even after that year is over.

And it's not like the bulk of their online transactions were going to happen during the first two weeks when most gamers would still play through the SP campaign, or AT&T he very least would split their time between single and multi.

Obviously I prefer a world in which this stuff doesn't exist, but I'm not quite ready to be annoyed until we see:

1. How easy or hard earning money is.
2. How much of an advantage (if at all) a large pile of money gets you.

Also, I'm going to guess launching GTA Online two weeks later is more about making sure the servers aren't on fire and measuring the potential userbase. As it is, it looks like they've had substantial problems just keeping the single-player Social Club stuff up.

You are DAMN right! And I will. But really if the money goes to the bank. How will you target them? Like why carry any money on you at all?

Oh man itll be great. Since ill be rolling with a gaf group. No one will be safe. OH the griefing will be good, sooo good.

Are we sure that this is not another teasing at others games with microtransaction?
Something like "buy with fake money some fake money" type of things...

One person's "real life money" is balanced out by another's "real life time". If its even possible, both players are going to be taking an equally big risk in losing assets.

Yeah I'm not playing online if there's monetization schemes

Just no
I will. Franklin isn't afraid of some challenge. I will ROB RICH PEOPLE.

I will never pay for play money, not once in my life, but I can deal with it if everyone else does I guess.

Surely I'm not the only one thinking that players are just gonna target other players who spend real life money?

I'm pretty much ONLY going to do this.

ok...for a game that made over A BILLION DOLLARS in just 3 days...this seems kind of...greedy.

Lets wait and see how this actually pans out. I do think charging for in game currency is an odd way to do GTA, but if people pay for it more power to rstar

No one could steal your cash, though.

My understanding is that you can only steal cash that hasn't been deposited in the ATM. So you can only steal cash that players earn in a given game.

These money packs are deposited in your bank account so that would make it impossible for another players to steal it from you.

Let us be realistic here. Time does not quite equal money in this situation, and there is no way the mechanics will be balanced anywhere remotely that good.

You need not target their cash. You can target their vehicles and other such purchases made with cash.

Time absolutely equals money in this instance. Buying fake money in the game does nothing but reduce the amount of time you must invest in earning the same rewards. Whether you choose to spend $5 or 5hours to acquire that gold plated tank should be completely irrelevant to the game. In fact, if this is done right there should be no way of distinguishing between people buying money and people earning it (outside of the first couple days where it'll be very obvious).

There is likely no benefit to having all this cash though. Most of what you get in GTAO by the sounds of things is cosmetic. Car upgrades, houses, clothes and weapons to an extent.

Are there any concrete examples of a game actually being ruined or unbalanced by a "pay to win" model? Any games in which the non-paying playerbase abandoned ship because it was just impossible to be competitive without putting real money in?

Honest question. With so much concern over it, I assume it has happened, but I'm not a huge F2P person, so I'm not familiar with much of the history of that segment of online games.

No, it'll be separate.

This is fucking stupid and greedy from Rockstar. if it turns out that the online player has an advantage due to depositing real money, I am out. if it´s just for customisation on guns etc that I could live with however I would be displeased.

Hopefully this is not going to be the future of gaming, seeing so many games being set online, like division etc etc. I wont support crap that asks me for more money to play the game I had paid full price for.

What would we need money for? Can anyone tell me and anyone else that is wondering the same thing? Seeing as this is GTA surely you can just run around as you would in single player and steal cars, maybe you need money to buy guns but if you can run over another GTA player maybe you can steal his guns and any money he has on him?

Because pretty much nothing you can buy in GTAO gives anyone an upper hand.

Isn't the player's goal in GTA Online to make money?

To buy guns, cars, real estate and stocks?

I want to say I'm indifferent cause I'll be doing the Online portion for only a month and a half but I'm a bit curious to see how it works and how it will eventually play out
