So I'm in Anor Londo now and I got to the point where there are 2 archers taking my soul away, oh well. And I should say it took me a while to get here, I'm now around 50 hours in and after killing queelags boss I went apparently in the wrong direction directly into demons ruin and I got stuck in a place with an orange wall so I had to go back, also the enemies on that level looked a lot harder than what I was fighting in the depths.
By the way that *dead* dragon in drakes valley scared the living soul out of me :lol but I got the sword hurray! (not that it looks to be any good though)

I guess I'll spoiler text if people still do that. To get past the archers:
Sprint up the ramp towards them. They can't hit you as long as you sprint and maybe weave a little. Go to the right, and you might have to dodge at least one arrow coming from behind you. The knight you're going towards should take out his sword. You can parry and riposte him twice (their standard chop attack is actually one of the easiest moves to parry in the game). The knight will either fall off after the first parry, or you can just block until he knocks himself off the ledge. An easier but more dangerous method is to get him to draw his sword, then just retreat, and he'll walk off the ledge trying to follow.

Or just bring a decent bow and
poison arrows.

I just defeated the boss from the Crystal Cave but it didn't give me any soul. After a couple of seconds of deliberation I decided to read the wiki and I definitely did not get the Bequeathed Lord Soul Shard. Am I screwed?

That soul shows up in the keys section of your inventory, not with the items. Are you sure you don't have it?

Well here's the thing, I went to the lordvessel and offered a soul and it worked but it never said which soul, sadly that was before I saw your post, now in the keys section it doesn't show up but that's maybe because I used it then? if it is I must have missed the popup saying I got the soul when I killed Seath the Scaleless, thanks for the help.

Any tips to handle invasions? every time I get invaded I'm not prepared for it, I mostly have the equipment to deal with what I'm doing at the time and the invaders come in hard :lol

Here are some tips to better handle invasions (sorry for the length, but all this Dark souls 2 hate about getting invaded while hollow is making me puke):

1.) Summon help. The invader is at a huge disadvantage once it becomes two on one. This should be obvious. With DSCFIX I roll eyes at all people on PC that "don't like the multi-player aspect on PC" All I have been doing since the DSCFIX came out is sending a friend request to EVERY person I co-op with, tell them about DSCFIX and how it only takes three minutes to drop a couple files and change 1 line in the DSFIX, and add them as friends. Once you build a good pool of friends (you don't have to know them personally, they are DS enthusiasts and that is all that matters), there is usually someone online when you log in, and these people, if they also have DSCFIX will be automatic summons when you drop in a certain location. This process is even better than what I experience on PS3. the PC version is now pretty close to the definitive version for not only graphics, but multiplayer as well, ...despite GFWL sucking, I have been using my steam messaging system and it is way faster than the GFWL interface, despite that I usually meet the people first on GFWL.

2.) If you get beat take your lumps and be positive. At least half of the people that beat me down accept my request for them to help me finish the boss in the area where they interrupted my progress. I have made friends that way. Rather than send a hate mail, why not seize the opportunity? You know this person is online at that time and connected well with you via the P2P system, and despite the occasional griefer, most invaders are huge Dark Souls enthusiasts and enjoy co-op as well. Seee #1.

3.) Take your time. PVP is all about who makes the first mistake, and usually the mistake comes in the form of getting baited to swing and then the experienced player punishes the player for their endurance deficit and recovery from said animation. You don't need a powerful weapon for this. My experience is that invaders will get tired of waiting for you to make the first swing and tart flailing away when they get impatient. Who can resist the temptation longer? YOU!

4.) Learn to take small chunks of health off you opponent...whittling them down slowly is the best option...going in for the slam dunk can be satisfying, but usually results in death the other way if you happen to miss.

5.) Learn to parry. although I have not practiced near enough myself...nothing is more satisfying than landing a parry and riposte.

6.) If you have magic, faith or pyro, save it for the end of the fight, not the start. If the combatant goes 5 minutes and it is a standoff for that period with melee only...they won't expect a wrath of God and will wander closer to the edge of a cliff than they should....easy kill.

7.) Dont expect poison darts, pies, and firebombs to work, but once in a while these can be useful...again save forthe end of the fight...but they have to be hot-keyed before you go forth as a human.

8.) Carry and upgrade longer reach weapons. This seems no brainer to me, but it is a huge advantage to have a longer reach than the other guy, get used to carrying a demon;s spear or silver knight spear around for example. Also, the boss soul and tail weapons usually have some kind of ranged magic attack....the moonlight greatsword is an example. Fight fight with melee and then when the health bar is low...send a few ranged attacks to finish them off. Other examples are the dragon great axe, Grant, Daragonslayer spear, and one I didn't even know about until yesterday after following booshka's post in the other thread, and if I am not mistaken (never tried myself) the golem axe.

9.) poise helps. If you are like me you like full roll, but wearing at least one piece with poise helps PVP, wolf ring is imperative for light armoured characters who expect they may be invaded. The reason is that you can calculate taking a hit, and yet still land your knockout blow. save this move for when you are winning by a bit and have a lead, or when its a last ditch effort.

10.) stay positive...this game is one of the best in the generation for a reason. enjoy the novelty of getting invaded...it doesn't happen very often in gaming so people dont like it....but its rarity is its drawing feature.

11.) invade often yourself....when you get smacked down as the invader...you will get some tips on what to do as the host.

Great suggestions as always man!

Anyway, wanted to ask you something concerning DS2. What would you think about them taking away the ability to do SL1 runs? And what what you think if the fast roll was tied to a stat rather than equip load?

Edit: Same question to Sullichin and Soulhouf.

Hey, thanks a lot for the tips! To comment on the invasion feature at the beginning I was like "who is this dude interrupting my playthrough" but after expending 70 hours in less than 2 weeks I'm now a lot more comfortable and I don't feel like that anymore, still knowing that you can't get invaded as hollow helps plus getting summoned to fight a boss is AWESOME. I can understand people not wanting to be invaded but I see it as a unique feature very different to what I'm used to play in a multiplayer game, completely worth it and fits the game perfectly.

Based on what I have seen, (I watched ENB twice) and randomly watched a few other youtubes, I do not think they will replace the item burden with agility, but merely add the agility factor to it...at least I hope they don't. So as far as rolling ....YES...it is clear that ENB said that he took off his armour and it didn't allow him to roll any faster....But we don't know if this was part of the BETA restrictions, (because he was starting mid game) or if this is just the base roll and the armour he had was lighter armour. Remember, FROM and NB were watching over ENB's shoulder and stopped him from getting treasures etc. so I doubt they gave him a mid-game character without possibly nerfing the roll speed by keeping it fixed at a median level as well as armour that was medium upgraded etc. I think they are going for even more realism in the fighting and although this may mean things are slower (i.e. Rolling, parries, VARIED backstabs with different weapons), I think this has the potential to be the best version to date. Notwithstanding, if they slow it down too much it will be less exciting and I have always wanted games to tax my fast twitch limits....so there could be a poor trade off if they go overboard. I am the type of player that hates armour and medium roll in dark and demons, so the ability to roll faster will be imperative one way or another for me. I will start putting in agility if that is what is necessary at the expense of other stats early on and branch out from there....count me in for starting with dual wielding for character #1.

(But what I think I may do is start three or four characters on launch, and not complete the game with one character first, but rather make check points with each one, search areas that I learn has the equip I am looking for specific to the character, and generally take my time. Although I agree with Yoshichan on a lot of the best aspects of demons over Dark, I think he had a hand in that he wrecked his Dark souls experience by near speed running on the launch IMO and I want to avoid that for DS2. I can be disciplined this time to not read spoilers etc. but I am not going to be averse to learning from summons' actions and will be clear for them to not just message me too much information.)

As far as SL1, These guys are not dumb and their vision from the start in demon's was pretty bang on. They have struggled at times to meet their vision, mostly because the creativity of the players knew no bounds, but I highly doubt they will wreck the ability for a skilled player to excel without upgrades. You know as well as anyone AC that after strategy, its the equipment that predicts whether someone will succeed in this game rather than the leveling. So i doubt it will be much of an issue. No upgrades will still trump character leveling if you want to limit yourself...so leveling a bit of agility and wearing little or no armour with base weaponry will still provide the platform for good restrictions. From what I have seen, the variation of the equipment adds to the skill and intelligence (gamer's not the character stat) required to solve problems.

Yeah good attitude ...my comments were not directed at you personally, you didn't whine in your post...but there is a lot of whining going on in the DS2 thread!

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

The thing here is that I didn't speedrun the game, I merely played it non-stop for like 50 hours. I took my time with pretty much everything I did, tried to explore as much as I could and even go beyond stuff I knew I shouldn't be doing (skeleton graveyard at Firelink, Demons Tower or whatever it's called super early in the game etc). To this date, some people still say that I should give DkS another chance... what these people don't get is that I've played 200 hours on console and at least 70 hours on PC (love you Durante!)... and I still think the game is good at best.

I'm cautious about DkS 2 but then again, it's easy to sit here and say this as we all have to wait till frikkin' March... what I think (and I'm afraid to say this) is that when we're a week from the launch, I'm gonna be just as hyped - if not even more hyped than I was for the original DkS... just the thought of this makes me scared.

Really scared.

ok fair enough yoshi...50 hours straight is still pretty fast when most of us at least took a week or so!!!! :)

from what little we were shown, i think you will be pleasantly surprised with this new incarnation....sounds like a return to roots....still trying to ensure the original vision of demon's souls gets a fair shake.

I seriously can't get enough of this game, after beating it four times on the 360 I felt like that would have to do. Time to play some other games. However I just bought a controller for my PC and my first thought was "great now I can play some Dark Souls which I've had on steam for ages".

About an hour in by now and I'm having as much fun as I've ever had with it. And the DSfix makes it look so damn pretty as well.

I'm so frustrated.

Crystal Caves. I'm a sorcerer having trouble fighting Seath. I read that you can throw on Havel's Armor because it protects from curse. The trouble is the long walk from the bonfire to Seath wearing that armor. Fucking sucks-then I get to Seath and he basically gets me with that crystal floor attack-I die, then I have to start all the way back at the bonfire.

As a sorcerer-is it worth attacking him with spells-or just get in close to the tail and chop away?

There are a lot of other pieces of gear that help against curse, and they are all much lighter than Havels. Look through your gear for some lighter cloaks and robes that have Curse resist, mix and match your gear to get the best curse resist. Humanity in your counter also helps greatly for curse resist, if you can afford it.

As a Sorcerer you most definitely want to attack the very tip of the tail, amazing weapon for Sorcerers. After you lop off the tail, go for his belly, he takes much more damage to the gut than to anywhere else, just be careful of some of his long wind up AoE crystal attacks, and watch out for his flurry attack where he flings all of his limbs around in a frenzy.

I recommend using the Cursebite ring you can find in New Londo. Gives you a ton of Curse Resist, and then you don't have to worry about heavy armor. (There's also plenty of lighter armor that will give you curse resist as well.)

Other then that, not too much advice I can give since I've never played a sorcerer build. I always just hack away at his crotch area and never have too much trouble....

One thing not mentioned yet to make this fight, and tail chop in particular, easier is
allow seath to break his own crystal....i.e. stand by the crystal until he gets real close and when he winds up to spam his curse breath at you sprint around the edge....9 times out of ten he breaks his own crystal when you are about halfway to the back...once the crystal breaks he freezes for a while allowing you to use your SHARP sword (use a high bleed weapon or one that has cutting or piercing stats, not a club for example, scythe s are the best as they give you a reach as well) to cut the very TIP of the tail.

Yea thats the last boss, the enemies are ripe for farming their weapons and upgrade materials. So long as you don't beat the boss you can continue to explore wherever you'd like.

no prob...I apologize for not killing that invader quickly enough after all my suggestions in the thread!!!!!

It was a good session...hope you didn't get fired after only a couple hours sleep?!?!?!

as booshka mentioned that sounds like the kiln, so yeah keep it open until you are ready to end it,

Oh, wow. There's a mod that makes the enemies in the game much more aggressive. i.e., they aggro from MUCH farther away, and they typically just keep following you until one of you is dead. Sounds like a really fun challenge.

...unfortunately, it doesn't work with the newest patched version of Dark Souls currently. =( Which means you would have to do things in order to get it to work. Hopefully somebody fixes it to work with this version. (I'm guessing it's just messing with a few memory addresses.)

Quick, someone do a SL1 NG+7 Fresh Start Challenge with aggressive enemies mod.

I still have a job lol. I'm at Manu's now. The only thing about Manus you may have missed is that
baby Sif can be summoned during the fight if you find his hidden lair in the abyss.
as you pointed out, the steam sale is helping with traffic.

anyone willing to summon me to their Undead Burg? I killed the merchant guy in there and I realised I now need to buy some of his stuff, lol.

The summon sign is in the middle of the boss battle and he is more of a moral support, not a hard hitter. I am not embarrassed to admit I have never beat manus solo, and my first character there just hired help; although I watched you tube on how it's done and would probably be ok as long as I learned the three or four tells of what attack is coming. He seems resilient to magic attacks so getting in close and pounding him might be the best approach....but then learning his attacks and what to do is mandatory then.

I don't think I ever beat Manus without

What sort of build are you running? If you're really desperate to beat him and you don't mind cheesing, you can do full Havel's + high-poise shield.

I actually finally did it. I'm a sorcerer. I used the Crystal Catalyst, with the Dusk Crown and the Sorcerer's ring and Wood Grain Ring. I would dodge out of the way, and when he fired off his breath, I would let loose with a Crystal spear.

So many hours with this game and that's the first time I've ever seen an enemy backstabbing a player o_O

The Hollow Thieves will do it every chance you give them. Go stand in front of one and roll backwards, chances are he'll stab you as soon as you press back on the analog stick. Unless you don't count that because it's not a stab animation like the player.

The balder knights always do it if you try to run away from them, too. I've had this happen many times when using that special uber-aggressive mod.
