you didn't. even if you want a Nexus 5, what do you really lose? $50 selling the 5S used? if it's gold, you could *make* money selling it used.
Yea my statement was a bit strong :p

I'm very happy with my 5S. Was going to wait for the Nexus 5 announcement but caved in.

Should still be good to see what happens. Would take a masterpiece of a phone to get me to sell my 5S.

The latest round of fresh Nexus 5 rumours coming out of the web is that Google will officially announce the Nexus 5, plus show all the finer details of Android OS 4.4 Kit Kit, on Tuesday, October 15th – not the 14th as previously rumoured. The date comes from a bunch of devs in-the-know who’ll be attending the European 2-week start-up boot camp called ‘Google Launchpad.’

The specs of the Nexus 5, according to the FCC filing, shows Google’s next pure Android smartphone will sport a 4.96-inch display, 2,300mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, 16-32GB of internal storage, LTE connectivity, 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. In addition, the price of the Nexus 5 is heavily rumoured to coming in the $299 outright once again, possibly available through carriers and Google Play.

Update: The ‘LG-D821′ is the model number of the Nexus 5 and it’s just received Bluetooth Certification – which just adds fuel to the rumoured announcement next week.

What about the rumor debunker that states that it would be really odd for Google to launch the phone next week without inviting the press (bloggers)?

What do you guys think about that? Isn't it odd? Unless they are under an NDA not to talk about being invited to the event? Is that even possible?

I'm sure at least The Verge has the device in hand by now, if the launch is next week.

Google doesn't always do events for product releases. Looks like they won't be doing one for the Nexus 5. They didn't do one for 4 (because of weather) and I don't think they did one for the 2013 Nexus 7 either? Get your auto-refreshers ready on the 15th.

They did. Together with the minor bump which was 4.3.

However as I said in the Android thread, I kind of prefer if they don't hold an event and all the press already has devices in hand and can write out proper reviews. Also the fact that major sites aren't reporting on many of these rumoured dates, etc is somewhat of an indication that they might know more but are bound to be silent.

that's very cheap if it's off contract, got my xperia z for $500 three months ago and i am very satisfied with it(the waterproofness still impress me to this day). though i doubt that it will match my phone built and camera quality it's still excellent.

Well, the Galaxy Nexus had an event in Asia. It was originally scheduled for October 11th, but they moved it to the 19th out of respect for Steve Jobs' passing prior to that week.

The Nexus 4's event was scheduled in New York and was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.

Looking forward to this. Currently have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and I'm happy with the phone still, but the monthly bills are just too damn high compared to a pre-paid plan. Even a $400 Nexus 5 would pay for itself in bill savings in less than a year. Planning on getting a Nexus 5 and making the switch to the $30 T-Mo plan when my contract is up in December.

Exactly my plan. I figure, $299 for base model + ~$100 ETF to get away from Verizon + $30/mo on Tmobile is better than the ~$110/mo I pay right now using my 4s

My memory is terrible and google refuses to acknowledge the internet is more than 2 years old. I don't remember the Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus having events. I just can't verify if that is true or if I'm already an old man.

Edit: I see wikipedia shows the Nexus S was announced on their blog, and the galaxy nexus was originally supposed to be announced at a Samsung event so I'm open to the idea that the Nexus 5 launch could come in any shape or form.

Can't wait to take a year or two break from iOS with this thing. And it will be cheap enough where if the iPhone 6 is staggeringly awe-inspiring, won't be a big deal to upgrade again next year.

I'm not sure why they're talking about the ability to trigger Google Nows voice commands by saying "OK Google'. It's been like that for a while now and is not a new feature of either 4.4 or The Nexus 5. Still reading through the article...

Also the UI changes look terribad. I don't like using a launcher because it isn't as smooth as the stock launcher but it looks like 4.4 will force me to just to de-uglify it.

Only for US English though.

Ahh. That would be a change for the rest of the english world. Google music and wallet confirmed to be coming to everyone as well? :p

If I didn't just recently get the HTC One I'd definitely be picking this one up, excellent value for money.

Pretty sure they mean being able to say OK GOOGLE without being on the search/now page. Like Google glass.

Really excited about the Nexus 5. I currently have A Nexus 4 but the battery life isn't THAT good so I'm hoping they worked on that. Stock Android is unbeatable.

I'm running CM10 and the battery life on my N4 isn't that good either.

Really hoping the Nexus 5 will have muchhh better battery life.

No press event and October 15 would be awesome. I hate press events for incremental crap. Just drop the goods and get out of my face.

No black background for the app drawer is great.

That was so fucking ugly.

Fix the disgusting black menu system, force devs to create nicer looking apps and make the app icons more uniform and then Android will be more comparable to iOS in my eyes.

What are the odds of this selling out fast and me not being able to get two for a while? My wife and I want to finally get on the smartphone bandwagon, but I worry about this selling out in like three minutes or something crazy.

Why would you worry when you've gone this long without a smartphone?

Buying 32GB Nexus 5 ASAP. Hope it works on Verizon LTE.

Let me save you $400.00. Don't buy it if that's what you are expecting.

The only reason something like the Nexus 7 LTE works potentially works on the Verizon network (with their certification mind you) is cause it's just for data. AFAIK no voice calls use Verizon LTE.

So unless Google wants to have another Galaxy Nexus in their hands, I doubt this phone will ever grace the Verizon network.

Hard to say. I believe the Nexus 7, up to this point, is the most popular Nexus device ever. And that didn't sell out (I don't think).

The Nexus 5 not having a glass back might help LG ramp up production and keep Google's inventory in black.

My next phone.
So happy they finally opened the Play Store in Italy too. Trying to get a N4 last year was a pain in the ass.

Yeah, it's going to suck ditching Verizon but I had a feeling it was going to happen this upgrade anyway. I can't support them out of principle (boo unlimited), but they are physically the only carrier that consistently works around here and the only one with 4G.

Guess I'll go to Sprint and become a 3G whiner. At least this phone should make things not sting as much.

Man this Verizon thing is so sad.
How bad of a carrier is it?

they are the best carrier as far as coverage and speeds go. So that's probably why they act pretty assy from time to time.

I'm still hoping I have an option that isn't $600+ next summer so I can keep my unlimited data.

I would still prefer lower speeds and more freedom with my carrier, had I to choose... But I've never dealt with any of these things luckily, so I don't really know.

But the "Oh man I won't be able to do this because Verizon" thing so, so, so sad.

I'm running stock everything! That's my biggest issue and I really do hope they work on it. I'm excited.

I will possibly swap my iPhone 5 for this, depending on reviews. The only phones I consider buying are Nexus and iPhone, and the nexus lost last year because of shitty storage and lack of LTE. I think the lack of a glass back and LTE will make this phone a knockout, but who knows at this point.
Gotta agree.

The iPhone and Nexus lines are the only decent ones.

Fuck Touch Wiz and every other bloated and ugly os that manufacturers use to ruin their phone.
