Dont know if its ghost related but in the last couple of years ive noticed random street lights turning off when im near?

Like im driving down a road and right as im about to pass a lightpost it turns off and when ive past it, its turns back on again.

When i noticed that it happened frequently i wrote down date and time of the occurances. Always around 10-midnight and about once a month.

When my cousin was a teenager (in the early 80s), he lived in an old plantation style house out in the middle of the countryside. From the rural highway turnoff, already a good 10 minutes outside of the nearest city, it took around 20 minutes of county road driving to reach his house--some of which was paved, but the majority was caliche. The landscape where he lived was a combination of expansive farmlands and heavily wooded thickets and there were enough back roads to get lost for days.

In his youth, he loved to go varmint hunting at night and would often hoof it through nearby woods with a lantern and his .22. He had a pet Akita that he would take with him on his hunting expeditions because it not only helped him track game but was also very protective and aggressive whenever it encountered a threat.

One night, he had finished hunting and decided to walk home by moonlight. Exiting the brush, he shut off his lantern and started walking down an old dirt road that he knew was only a few miles from his house. The night was black as pitch and the only light he had to guide him was cast from a full moon and stars. Aside from an occasional owl hoot and crickets, the night was more or less quiet. Tired from his expedition, he was content to enjoy the cool evening air and a nice, relaxing walk home.

Rifle slung on his shoulder, he and his dog were walking down a familiar dirt road when the Akita suddenly stopped and turned to look back the way they had come. He said the dog started whining and pacing nervously--which freaked him out because he had never seen the dog scared of anything. Hell, the damn thing regularly fought with his neighbor's bulls.

Worried they might be about to be attacked by a wild cat or coyote, he reached reached for his .22 and peered into the darkness. The road was flanked by woodland on either side but it was flat, and as his eyes adjusted to the night he could see a good distance up the way. Nothing. The Akita continued to pace and its whining grew louder by the moment.

As he tells the story, the Akita suddenly bolted, headed for the junction to the county road that led home. It was then he heard the chugging. From seeing old movies and the like, he said it sounded like an old model T was headed his way. Straining to see as far as possible, he saw it. An old model T, engine chugging and knocking, was bumbling down the old dirt road with no headlights on. He felt his veins run cold. He knew every farmer that lived in that countryside--he went to school with a lot of their kids--and not a single one owned an old model T.

He didn't wait for it to get any closer, my cousing threw his gun and lantern down and ran as fast as his legs could carry him all the way back home. For the next few weeks he asked everyone he knew if anyone knew about the model T but no one did, nor did anyone ever see it again.

Street light interference phenomenon

I've heard other people say this happens to them.

I love when this thread pops up in October.

This happened to me a lot when I was driving back from work at night some years ago.

I'll share the most recent thing that happened to me.

I have ghost hunted since high school on and off. I've questioned the legitimacy of things that people have claimed- but this night I didn't really give a damn about taking it too seriously because it was a friend's house and on a whim.

In high school we went to this road that was haunted at the end by a ghost named Amy. I had a few experiences down there, heard the clearest EVP of my life caught there (too bad I wasn't the one who took it that night) and avoided that road as much as I could. Until my friend moved to that road to work on a horse farm.

She would tell us stories of hearing people upstairs talking, to the point where she sleeps downstairs on her couch. One time she threw a ball for her dog into another room and it was thrown back. Another friend of mine decided we needed to go upstairs and check it out.

As I said, I wasn't taking it seriously. I had no equipment and just my past with the road made me want to leave it be. But I sat up there with him and another guy on a whim. We looked around, tried to get something to touch or grab us. Nothing. Then I mention "Too bad we don't have voice recorders." Luckily, he had the voice memos thing you can do on your phone on his so he whipped it out and started recording.

The other friend has now found the stairs to the attic, so he and I start going up while the other walks off to the other room. I walk up a few steps and see in the corner of the room a baby bonnet and cane. It was like out of a horror story kind of deal, and not in the mood I walk back saying "Nah-- fuck this shit, that's too creepy for me." They go do their EVP thing in the stairs and then walk back down. Then we listen to it sitting in one of the bedrooms upstairs still.

At the same point that my friend had walked away from us, we can very clearly hear a voice saying "I'm human". We all freak out as none of us expected anything. Listening back I hear something even creepier at the beginning of the recording: what sounds like a baby crying.

So we decide to try to get it to do something else. Anything else. I put my keys on the edge of a nightstand, and say to prove it and knock it off the table. My friend who recorded says to come at one of us and touch us. I try to get it to touch the swinging switches for the fan and just tap them and move them to prove it. Nothing.

As we give up and leave to go back downstairs and make sure the girls outside were OK, both of them hit the fan switch so it swings saying "You know why I can hit that? Because I'm human" and laughing it off...with our backs turned we hear a DINK and look back to see the thing swinging harder- as if something had hit it and made it go up and hit the glass cover of the light for the ceiling fan.

so, you have recordings of that? can you upload them or something? :p

I'm probably a skeptic when it comes to this stuff (never experience anything myself) but i'd love to, and i find it pretty fascinating.

My new job involves working through the night in a really big data centre/call centre that is usually staffed to about 2000, but at night there's only 20 of us and we're confined to a small room.

On my breaks i like to walk down to the big call centre and read sometimes, there's usually hundreds in this room and phones ringing all over the place, but at 1am there's just me and it's completely silent, it's so strange and eerie.

Isn't that just a day light sensor? Your car lights are bright enough to affect the sensor?

This happened on a variety of streets and parking lots. Imagine a long street thats busy during daytime but not as much at night, with lightposts along side of the road. It's only 1 light that goes out and back on as I pass.

Another example was an early morning around 6am. I was going to the bakery to pickup some fresh bread. Pulled into the parking lot and theres light posts all over the place. I parked underneath one and as I opened the door the light went off? Walked away and it came back on.

Here are a few recent stories of mine. As a preface, I believe we are constantly surrounded by spiritual activity. Both of a positive and negative nature. Everywhere we go. Sometimes that fluctuates and the scale tips further to good or bad depending on who you are and where you are.

So, earlier this year (before I moved, I am no longer in the house detailed here) I began to notice more and more strange things and feelings while in the house I was staying in. It was my friend's place, and I had been staying there for almost a year now. The strange feelings particularly resonated around the kitchen and stairway to the hall of bedrooms, which was in direct line of sight from the kitchen.

Every single time, EVERY single time, I would walk up the stairs to my room I would feel as though something crawled out of the kitchen and slinked up the stairs behind me. Following me to my room but stopping at the door. My room felt safe, with few exceptions (which I can also detail).

One night I was on my back porch with my girlfriend and her best friend. We were talking and just hanging out. Now the back porch looks directly into the kitchen via a window that sits just above the sink, which gives us an entire view of the kitchen.
As we were talking we each noticed each other looking off into the kitchen every now and then. eventually one of us made mention of it, and the subject of spirits came up because we each felt distracted by something through the window.

About ten minutes pass, and as we are talking I'm staring into the back yard which is, at this time of night, a dark void. It is forested and there are no lights to be seen. I turn to rejoin the conversation and look into the kitchen window.
I see the figure of a man standing at the far end of the kitchen (the kitchen light is on so I can see clearly). Whenever I think I see something, I like to immediately test what I think I've seen. So I immediately turn my head back to the yard to see if perhaps I was actually staring into a light or something that could have burned this temporary shape into my eyes.

But the yard was pitch black, with the lone source of light for us being through that window. And I turn back to the window, the figure is still there. In the same spot, looking exactly the same. I couldn't make out details because it looked dark gray like a shadow. But I could make out basic features such as eye pockets, where a nose was, as well as a mouth. And as I stared at it, it dissipated in a manner of which I can only describe as smoke clearing in all directions at once. Not as normal smoke does, drifting to one general direction, but scattering in every direction until it is gradually disappeared.
A few days later we blessed the house, and about a month later I moved.
I will take that image with me until the day I die.

Various other things had happened in that house, as well as the new place I've been living in.
Even my girlfriend's house, where I believe I saw something this morning just over the edge of the bed as we were waking up.

Again, I believe it is all around us at all times. Both good and bad. And I believe that if you are "open" to it, you will see things and experience things. The more skeptical you are, the more complacent you are, you will remain unaware unless something specifically wants to get your attention (but even then you will attempt to rationalize what can't always be rationalized). The bad ones, at least, want you to be complacent and live your life unaware. Which is why when you become open, things start happening in order to scare you into denial. I've seen THAT happen a lot.

Side note: I live in a city that was the site of countless deaths during the civil war. You throw a rock anywhere and someone died on that ground, or is buried there. And before even that, was essentially all slave worked farm land.

Just what I believe.
I'll share more later if you'd like.

yeah, I don't have any stories to tell but I love reading them, by the way, is there any youtube channel or something with a set of nice spoken mystery/ghost/horror tales?

I dont know of any youtube channels but you might want to check out
Jim Harolds Campfire or Darkness Radio.

Jim Harolds Campfire has listeners call in to tell their ghost stories. Its always pretty entertaining even when the stories arent that great.

Darkness Radio is a nightly radio show based out of Minnesota that will typically have guests on to discuss paranormal things but on Mondays, they usually do Paranormal Stories Night where they will read emails and have callers tell stories.

Great story. Thanks for sharing.

I'll share a weird story that happened to my family before I was born.

My grandpa, who was a physician and army doctor, had been sick for a long time with a terminal disease. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it's very rare and was relatively unknown at the time (around 30 years ago).

My family had been preparing for his death for a time since he had been in and out of the hospital for months at a time. They would stay at his side for some nights, and sleep at home others.

One night, my grandma had gone to bed late after coming back from the hospital. She went through her normal routine and fell asleep. In the middle of the night, she woke up suddenly and felt forced to sit straight up. She said she felt as if someone was hugging her with all his might, and she was unable to move for a few seconds. She looked around, and there was nobody there. Everything else in the room was normal.

She got a call from the hospital a few minutes later. They said that my grandpa had passed only moments ago.

My grandma still maintains that what she felt that night was him saying goodbye, one last hug from the man she loved.

I have no stories of my own but I'll repeat the story told to me by my brother in-law. Not really that scary compared to some of the stories here but I'll try and do my best with it.

To fully experience SpookyVision™ I need to give you some back story.

While he was still dating my sister, my brother in law must have been about 22, sharing an old house with another guy around the same age, both students at a local agricultural university. The place they were staying at was an old Australian style house on raised on stumps, not a "Queenslander" but similar, no patio/veranda. I'd been there a few times myself and it was a pretty basic place, walls, floor and a ceiling, no frills.

I found the place on Google Maps, still looks suitably decrepit.
hh.jpg

So this place used to be the home of the workers who manned the train station/railway in the small town I grew up in. It was a rural area and the whole town was basically built around the train station when it was established so it was one of the oldest buildings in the town, at a guess over 100 years old. Now this style of building (raised, on stumps) can be basically lifted up onto a truck and relocated, which this one was. It had moved from in town to about 10k out of town into a tiny little town (pretty much consisting of a church, school and a couple of houses)

The interior of the house was pretty run down, everything was pretty much original bar electricity, even that had the old style metal light switches and external wiring (mounted on the wall rather than wired inside the wall). Even the kitchen had the space where the old wood stove had been.

There was 2 main events he told me about, I'm not sure what sequence they occurred in though. One event happened when my brother in law went to bed one night while his room-mate was out, he woke up late one night (around 1ish) to the sounds of his room-mate walking around the kitchen and the sounds of cooking, sizzling on a pan and plates/cutlery clanging about. Being students he thought it was a bit weird but he figured his room-mate had been out drinking and came home drunk deciding to cook something to eat.

He asked his room-mate the next day what he was doing cooking so late, his room-mate said it wasn't him, he'd been out and didn't get home until around 3.

The other incident occurred when my brother in law woke up to see a man in older style clothes and a hat standing in the door way, his bed pretty much sat directly opposite the door to the room. The room felt deathly cold as he man stood there for what my brother in law says felt like about a minute, he closed his eyes for a moment and when he opened them the man was gone.

I... don't know if this qualifies as scary or funny, probably a little bit of both but,

Recently, where I work, a girl suffered what my co-workers firmly believe as possession. She's generally a shy person, but all of a sudden she yelled, screaming expletives, her body jolted and jerked like someone jacked her up with electricity, and... here's the funny/scary part: she suddenly spoke with multiple languages like French, Deutsch, and what I believe to be Germany.

This is from a girl who is not even fluent at basic/medium level of English.

She claimed she did not remember what happened after she was "awakened".

I don't know what to believe, witnessing that.

Sounds like she better get checked out by a mental health professional, at least to rule anything out.

Thanks so much Super-heated Plasma for keeping this going!

I guess its a bit lame to link to Reddit, but I love this topic too much and found a choice thread the other day that's a fun long read:

Creepiest "real life" stories

A couple of really fun stories that came out of that:

Clinton Road - haunted road in New Jersey

After one night of hearing tales, me and six others decided to go to the castle. As we got up the dirt road that wound up to the castle.

We parked the cars, got out , it a fire and drank some beer. After a half-hour we began to hear chanting and chains rattling. One of the girls started to go into a seizure. Three of us tried to move her to no avail. It was like she was nailed to the rock.

Then the chanting stopped. The girl came around. We all looked at each other like “What the hell is going on here?” –G.J.R

Winchester Mystery House
The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in Northern California, once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester. The property and mansion have been claimed to be haunted—including by Winchester herself—since construction commenced in 1884. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around the clock, without interruption, until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased.[3] The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million (equivalent to over $75 million in 2012).[4][5] It now serves as a tourist attraction.

The house with no corners
In my area The Stickney Mansion (Aka The house with no Corners) and the surrounding area in Bull Valley Illinois was always the center of the local myths. I always heard these story's growing up, but much to my surprise most of them turned out to be true to some extent.
We always heard story's about "The house with no corners", as its known to most of the younger kids. It's called this because the house was built specifically to have no corners because the owners/builders where spiritualists and built the house in 1904 and intended the house to be a spiritualist retreat where they can have company over for seances and practice their beliefs, apparently they believed that "corners can trap souls and energy". However by accident the contractors ended up building in one single corner during construction.
The Myth/story that I heard goes as follows: one night they summoned something "Evil and beyond their control" and life in the house was never the same. Soon after this event the wife was found dead in the house, and then soon after they found George Stickney (the owner) slumped over dead in the only corner in the house. And is still haunted by that spirit/ghost/demon today.

once when I was a kid i was visited by a white skeletal shadow/entity late at night, it just came up to my bed to stare at me. scared the fuck out of me, I hid under the blankets hoping it didn't see me and went to sleep like that.

years later i saw a documentary or something of that nature on tv where another kid had the exact same thing happen to him.

Man some of these are pretty freaky. I guess I'll share a story of some sort of Nightmare or... whatever it was. This was when I was around 6-8ish years old and it still gets me to this day how freaky it was. I'm just going to copy and paste the story I wrote on another forum when I was younger.

This was when we lived back in St. Catharines and at the time of this dream my bedroom at the time was in the basement, and whenever the lights were off it was extremely dark. So I headed to bed and shortly after, I fell asleep.

In my dream I had just awoke up what seemed like almost instantaneous because I heard a loud noise. I quickly scanned over my room when my eyes caught my window which was broken. In the corner of my eye I caught movement so I quickly tried to put my head under my covers which had suddenly disappeared. Not able to hide I threw my body into the fetal position in the corner of my bed not bothering to look around my room.

At this point, I began to hear footsteps which came closer as I stood still and held my breath. It was at that time I felt my bed move like something was getting on it. and then I felt a sharp object pressing against my legs. the voice told me to come out, and when I did I saw this guy with a knife. He pulled me to my feet and dragged me out of my bed and held the knife to my back and forced me to walk out of my room and up the stairs of my small house. He took me outside where he had essentially taken me hostage and forced me down the cold street. He kept saying screwed up stuff that as a child I couldn't understand and the guy was threatening to hurt me

Considering I was a child I was complacent and didn't bother running away... that was until he threw me onto the cement road and yelled that he was going to kill me. Terrified I kicked him in the shin as I got up and tried to run away, but just as I was getting up, he grabbed my leg which forced me to swing my legs some more. He held me upside down as he brought his knife up and stabbed my leg, then stabbed my arm. I swung my body some more as I tried to hit him while reacting to the pain, which only got him angrier as he went to stab me again in the chest although he stopped just as he was about to hit me saying something like it was too easy. He threw me into a pine tree, walked over as I was trying to get up from the pain and thew me onto the cement followed by raising up his knife and went to stab me again..

Just before he hit me I woke up screaming at the top of my lungs breathing heavily, which prompted my parents to come in and check up on me. After what seemed like minutes, I calmed down and my parents left left the room. When they left they closed the door and the murderer guy was right there I went to scream but nothing came out, and he grabbed me and forced me up the stairs to my parents room hitting my arm off the door as we entered.

Luckily, at this point I finally woke up, screaming and crying one last time. Although at the time I wasn't sure I scanned the room to find everything normal again. The odd thing about all of this though was now that I was awake, my body was in pain in the exact areas that I had been hit in the dreams. It was definitely one of the freakiest dreams I have ever had

Funny thing is that I have never bothered to tell anyone about this dream other than when I posted it online. I dont even know where my brain managed to get all these violent acts from to put this dream together because as a kid I was one of the most innocent children you could ever know. Always polite, giving to the needy, I had never had a pet die on me yet, The only movies and television shows I had watched were childrens cartoons and I doubt I even realized things like Horror or Violence even existed.

Other than this though, every now and then I'll run into nightmares where its like some demonic being or a ghost chasing me through a building which is a mix of places I have been to put into one.

Basically the dreams go off where I'm waking up, then go through a sped up hour then the demonic stuff happens, then I wake up and go through a sped up hour then demonic stuff happens sooner and then this will continue until its just me stuck in the bed trying to run away yet I can't because I'm paralyzed while I watch or listen to a demonic voice or presence walking towards me.

During these dreams I'll also be lucid and remember every instance of waking up so the end result is just be being completely terrified until I finally do wake up and from instincts leap out of the bed in a cold sweat and almost in tears.

Of course, these likely have nothing to do with ghosts, but while reading this thread I noticed people sharing freaky dreams or dreams with demons in them so I thought I might as well share.

Sitting downstairs behind the computer in the afternoon and feeling something 'brushing' my hair. At first I just touched my hair, thinking it was nothing. Then it happened for the second and third time. Needless to say I panicked and ran up the flight of stairs and looked down to see if I could see something.

Took me days before I could finally sit there again.

A friend of mine took a pic. She was setting up for catering. But there is this guy in the pic. But that guy wasn't there before. Who is that guy? It's a ghost.

I don't believe in ghosts in any way, but the closest thing to me was when I moved into my first university house with some friends. We had a few days getting used to the place, working out where to store everything when we realised the little utility room had it's own small attic. We pulled open the cover and got a small ladder inside and it was all carpeted up there, with a light and power sockets and all sorts. We all squeezed in there and stayed chatting about all the cool stuff we could use the space for, and we noticed that all the insulation in the roof was all padded with newspapers. I pulled a few out and they were mostly just copies of the local newspaper from a few years ago except for one - which was the previous days The Sun. We had been living there for several days at this point, and none of us even knew it was there til that day. I can only assume we had a ghost that did boring household chores like insulation.

Great thread, had to wait till I had a full house during the day to read. I learnt my lesson reading the creepy thread at night:p

I don't have much, but one of my experiences was when I was a kid on vacation in Hampton, Virginia. I had fallen out of bed during the middle of the night and saw a white figure walk form my hotel room window towards the hotel hallway. Just walked straight out, my mom woke up and said something to me, to the lines of are you ok or what was wrong with me. I had. Always thought it was a ghost but thinking back I possibly was hallunicating since falling out of bed jolted me awake.

Another thing though not really a ghost experience, I had been out with friends and got in the house late and was tired as heck so I decided to skip the shower and just crash on bed. I did that and I wake up maybe 10 or so minutes later in the shower, naked and water running. Was creepy, but looking back on that it's possible I had sleep walked and did all that. It's weird cause before that I've never had anything like that happen to me, no cases of sleepwalking.

This just happened to me on Saturday....

I went for a morning walk around 7:30 AM. Its cold enough outside that the ground has frost and a lot of windows were foggy and lightly frosted.

Im about 10 minutes in when a taxi driver stops to warn me of a black bear that he literally just saw cross the road where I was headed. I didnt want to come face to face with it so I changed course and decided to walk the other path that I typically go.

On this path, theres a very small section that leads behind a few houses and into a crappy looking alley next to a tattoo parlor. This section always weirds me out because its also next to the house of some older man who rarely comes outside but its so, so short so I never really mind walking through it.

So I make my way through the alley and I notice the lower level door to the tattoo parlor is foggy but in a weird way. Everything else was fogged up almost evenly across the entire glass but this door had this space where there was no fog at all. It caught my eye so I just stared at it as I walked by...when all of a sudden I see this face of a really old woman all wrinkled up move into this unfogged space and right back out...almost like she was in a rocking chair and just pushed herself in and out. She didnt look "ghostly" either.....she looked like a real person. My heart stopped and I quickly sped up to get the fuck out of that alley.

Its not really a scary story as it could have just been some simple old lady but it just freaked me right out.
