Fox trademarks "Alien: Isolation"

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/10/2...demark-suggests-fox-hasnt-given-aliens-games/

After canceling the Aliens RPG and the problems with Aliens: Colonial Marines, you may have thought the Alien series would get a break. However, it looks like there is another Alien game in development.

Twentieth Century Fox filed a trademark for Alien: Isolation which is for use with computer game and video game software, downloadable mobile software, and decorative magnets. We doubt this will *just* be used for decorative magnets, so our suspicion is Alien: Isolation is a game. The question is who is working on it?

It's likely the Creative Assembly game.

Sounds more like it's inspired by the original. So possibly a horror game?

Or some very scary decorative magnets.

The following might be fake but: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=47807292

we are making the new alien game with creative asembly who make total war. That game looks amazing. Very dark, very slow paced (in a good way). The textures and lighting look really really good. I've seen it running on a PC. The PS4 devkit looks like a computer. It looks as good rif not better running as any super high end pc. We did not have those controllers, but they look like what was promised.

While the lack of an "s" in the title does peak my interest SEGA has swung and missed two times now with this franchise for a "AAA" release. Sad to see those games quality follow along the same path as the films.

I'll still hope for the best though, that Aliens DS was a great surprise.

Well, that'll be the name of Creative Assembly's Alien game. Sounds very much like the Alien/Dead Space game I was hoping for.

Please let this be good.

When a DS game is the best Aliens game by far in years you know someone is screwing up.

Yes the DS game is that good and that's how badly at the same time they screwed up on consoles.

Don't let Gearbox near it either.

Hopefully they'll get Gearbox to do it so they can start work on Borderlands 3!

Amnesia: Alien is all you need to do. No combat, just run, hide, and try and kill the alien through a variety of ways that will always fail til the end.

This dude hypes it a lot: http://uk.linkedin.com/in/alexwrightmanning

Complementing the Total War team, our rapidly-expanding console studio is currently working on the industry’s best-kept secret: an entirely new cross-platform title based on the Alien IP, that goes where other Alien games fear to tread. We’re not quite ready to show it off yet, but when the time comes – let’s just say we’re definitely going to need that new trophy cabinet...

The engine is proprietary: http://www.linkedin.com/in/mbonanno

Working in the console team on an unannounced game based on the Alien IP.
I work as a core technology generalist on different areas of the studio proprietary engine, tools and pipeline.

Reading all the linkedin profiles I can find they keep referring to it as "console Alien game", I hope they are not crazy enough to skip PC.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I want to get hyped but man, I got so badly burnt following every single bit of news, screenshot and update for Colonial Marines since its announcement in 2006.

Not this time Fox, not this time.

I would not mind a mix between Amnesia and Metroid Prime (like another poster said). You're weak at first and have to run and sneak around, but as you progress and survive you find new tools, access new areas and eventually can fight the Alien head on like Ripley with the flame thrower.

An Alien game as an Amnesia / Outlast / Metroid Prime / Metroid Fusion where the only enemy is SA-X-style game could be AMAZING.

I would just like a sequel to Infestation though.

Hopefully they'll get Gearbox to do it so they can start work on Borderlands 3!

Shouldn't be too difficult to be a damn sight better than AvP 2010 and Colonial Marines with Creative Assembly at the helm.

I just hope it's still an Action RPG as was the case a few years ago. Hard to tell what direction it's now going in from this image that was leaked some months ago...

I'd be in the dick
I wonder if this is the horror themed Aliens game someone from Sega mentioned in an AMA on Reddit a while ago. He mentioned the game and that it was running well on PS4 (before the reveal) then the thread got shut down immediately.

There was a pretty long gameplay video that got leaked a while back. It's pretty messy in a technincal sense but you can get an idea of what they were going for.

Hey, I hadn't seen this before. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, it does look like it has the usual Obsidian jank, but that's pretty much part and parcel of their games these days, just wouldn't be an Obsidian title if there wasn't some level of jank.

Overall though, it looks surprisingly good. Can't wait to see what C.A have been working on...

Thanks to the clusterfuck that was A:CM, Creative Assembly is going to have an uphill battle convincing die hard aliens fans (like myself) that it is worth it to keep milking the franchise like they're doing. Either revitalize the alien brand or just leave it the hell alone.

Slow paced? so dark souls style third person? RPG (which we know they almost developed) or survival horror..........

if its one of those, well god damn !

I have faith in C.A. They haven't made a bad game yet (in my opinion at least) and their two forays into third person action games have been great. Spartan: TW especially. What I wouldn't do for a sequel to that fantastic title...

Actually I wouldn't say no to another RTS Alien game and it would be pretty damn sweet with C.A at the helm.

Not really a fan of the RTS genre, but I definitely agree with you that focusing on the 3rd person and not the burned out 1st person is a good step in the right direction.

Yeah I've enjoyed the games from CA I've played but I'm concerned about how the project will be run on the Sega end. Hopefully the silver lining to the shake ups over at Sega will help prevent garabge like Colonial Marines from happening again.

I'm imagining an Alien in a room with its hands on his head and saying "leave me alone, leave me alone, no more, no more".

post-22077-rap-battle-parody-perfect-loop-gLVH.gif

Oh man, the timing on this gif is fucking glorious.

There will never be a good Alien/Aliens game again, people. Get used to it.

Maybe if someone works some Oculus Rift magic we could get a half decent horror game, but even then it would be tough, given the fact that if you're ever close enough to see the alien there's like a 98% chance you're about to die.

If this happens I hope they:

-do a new story unrelated to LV426
- retcon the shit out of Aliens Colonial Marines
- don't use Colonial Marines at all or...
- actually think about what the Alien Franchise wanted to explore when Cameron introduced Marines
- bring back the rape symbolism and actually make the xenos scary because of their cruelty, not their appearance
- take a cue out of Metroid Prime, Dead Space 1, Batman Arkham Asylum when it comes to game design. Semi linear with tons of exploration and a location that oozes with character.

But all of this is meaningless, as we're sure to get another turd, filled with un-ironic macho bullshit, fascist narratives and a cast of characters that makes the Teletubbies look like character actors.
Sprinkle some meaningless AAA PR bullshit on it so the Internet has some new buzzwords to repeat ad nauseam, and you'll have a basic gist of what this is going to be.

In that case, how is the alien on LV-223 related to pods on LV-426?

Ah I get it... well one simple solution would be an Engineer ship discovering the remains of the military installation on LV 223. One gets impregnated by the cute black goo worms and in the following exodus they crash land on LV 426.

In fact, I'd wager that one of the ships got away 2000 years before Prometheus took place, but they were already infected and crashed on LV 426.

Given that the Prometheus Alien is designed after Gigers original design and not the ones from part 2, and that they went back to the original metamorphosis idea from Alien 1 (people being absorbed into becoming eggs, instead of a Queen that lays the eggs) it's pretty much feasible that the aliens transformed the Engineers on board to eggs.

Heck a game where you play the last Engineer on board of the ship crashed on LV 426, the game could end with you dying in the chair sending the warning beacon.
